RULES

A new challenge will be submitted each week. You then have that week to find the song package, auto-sync it, and complete the challenge. You must set your machine difficulty to 4. This is the standard for all challenges, unless specifically told to do otherwise. Please turn Marvelous-timing ON.

The person with the least ammount of less-than-perfect steps is the winner of the challenge. In the case of a tie, the person with the most marvelous steps will win. If there is a tie after that, the earliest submission picks challenge, with those who tied getting the same ammount of points.

No person may win more than TWICE in a row. Thus, if you win twice in two weeks, feel free to sit out the third week. You will still be able to pick a challenge on the second win, though.

Each "session" will consist of 10 challenges and last for 11 weeks. The 11th challenge will be decided by me and it will be a NO RULES challenge. Both divisions will have the same ending challenge, but these will not count for points. Only bragging rights. Thus, there will be only one winner.

POINT SYSTEM
15 points for 1st
10 points for 2nd
5 points for 3rd
4 points for 4th
3 points for 5th
1 point for 6th-10th

If you win a challenge, you should be open to distribute the song you are serving as a challenge.

The No Rules Challenge

I will pick a song/oni/nonstop, add whatever mods I feel like, and you have one week to clear it. You may only submit one score for this challenge, so make it count.

The score for this challenge will be the machine score (i.e.: 98xxxxxxxx), or accumulated dance points (for nonstops/onis only).

One problem.

I use a mac laptop and I have no "Screenshot Button" so would I just take a picture with my digital?

I guess I forgot about the mac users. If you have a digi-cam at your disposal, go ahead and use it. Just tone down the quality to keep file size down, just in case we think your scores are fake :b Just find some way to prove your score visually.

It's a good idea but you need to have challenge levels, because obvioulsy Nima, reach, or Arch0wl win win everytime. We need to have expert, medium and easy at the minimum. I'm not saying Heavy, Standard, Light, I'm just saying we need different skill levels to be represented.

You know this won't work, right? You're not even taking into consideration the possibility of cheating.

StarOcean: Good idea. Okay...so here's how I have it worked out in my head:

I'll pick the challenges initally (we'll only start with two difficulties, unless someone else helps out and looks out after another difficulty). You may only win ONE difficulty. So, if you compete in both and win both, you will be awarded with winning the harder of the challenges and second place from the other challenge will be considered the winner. The winner of each challenge will then select another challenge. You may not win more than TWICE IN A ROW. You can win two weeks in a row, but the runner-up for the second week will select the challenge.

NOTE: Your machine difficulty should be set to, at least, 4 for these challenges (unless the challenge is to good attack a certain song on machine difficulty 1). No one will be able to tell, but if you'd like to get a little better at keyboard smashing, you might want to take the advice.

Point Scale:

10 points for 1st place
7 points for 2nd
5 points for 3rd
3 points for 4th
2 points for 5th
1 point for 6th-10th
0 points for everyone else

Nosaj: I understand that some people may be inclined to cheat, but that's only screwing themselves up. Besides, fake scores can be spotted easily (or they can be questioned, hence the requirement to take a screenshot of all scores). This is only for a little fun and friendly competition. That, and promoting the trade of DWIs.

Does any of this sound good? I'll think up two challenges and post them on Monday. Let's just see how it goes. If it rocks, I'll create another thread specifically for this.

No offense intended here or anything, and hopefully no one would be stupid enough to waste their time cheating at something like this, but it's incredibly easy to fake a screenshot, seriously.

Hell, you don't even have to Photoshop a screencap to cheat; I actually have The Pledge AAA'd on Challenge on my computer.

Nosaj: Oh, I completely understand. The way I see it, if someone is so obsessed as to go that far, more power to them. Better yet, if they fake a score and create a 'shopped screenshot so good that no one can detect, I'll just give them the points. It's no big deal.

If someone wants to be that much of a jackass, they'll get theirs soon enough.

I just want everyone here to have fun. It's not like we're going to be playing for multi-million dollar prizes, here.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Yeah there's the opportunity of cheating, but when in competition is there not? Just do it, and if people don't want to be involved because of the possibility of cheating, then let them sit out and watch.

Also, I think there only need to be two "divisions," lets say Maniac and Trick divisions (credit to 10kcommotion). You can initially decide to be in whichever division you want to be, and the challenges for Trick division will be a bit easier than those in Maniac division. If a player is completely dominating in Trick division, they should be moved up to Maniac, and likewise if someone is severely lagging in Maniac, they should move down to Trick.

Of course all of that assumes a fairly high-level of organization, which would be kind of cool, but whatever works. I would actually like to see this turn into something fairly big (of course I suck at SM, but still, it would be fun).

A couple of things:

1) I think using dance points or a similar system to score would make calculation more uniform and simpler. Regardless of what system you choose, a little clarification would be appreciated.

2) Based on the previous suggestion, you would either need to specify whether marvelous steps are turned on or off, or else that marvelous and perfects are worth the same number of DPs (2).

3) When using original step files, you should make sure people know where to get them (since the DWI Request thread can be slow at times).

Also, just a suggestion for the future that you may have already thought about: have some of the challenges be original songs and others be official songs. Of course that's just my 2 cents.

DJX: Here's my reply...

1. Let's see how this goes, first. With this system, you just count how many less-than-perfect steps you aquired. If two people tie, I'll determine the winner, fairly.

2. Marvelous steps should always be turned on for challenges (this should have been fairly clear by the many times I said, "MARVELOUS". In any case...turn them on).

3. This is the initial challenge. I just picked two random songs out of my head and added mods. It'll be up to the winners to chose future songs.

Now, I'll write the full rules into the Official Thread, after this challenge is over. Once they're up, they're not going to be changed.

Also, participants for this week will still get points and, maybe, a little prize for being the first players.

1.) There are 2 speed japans at bemanistyle, I'm getting both but I need to know which one we're supposed to play.
2.) There are 4 klun klung 1655's at bemanistyle, which of those do I get?

You could just send them to me at [email protected] or aim me, same as my username.

Star: The Speed Japan to use is the official Speed8 one. You'll know when you see it. Also, the KlungKung to use is a 10-foot on heavy.

Can I post a picture now, but then another one later this week if I beat it? Or do I only get to submit one? If I can submit multiple, I will definitely submit my speed8 score right now.

Star: For right now, post them both. Don't post the pictures. If your scores look fake, then I'll need to see them. Post your best score for each.

Here's my attempt at this:

Speed Japan: 352 marv., 64 perf., 6 greats (6 non-perfect)

KlungKung: 380 marv., 190 perf., 85 greats, 11 goods, 0 boos, 7 misses (103 non-perfect)

I'll be doing KlungKung, again. Both were first tries. (NOTE: I will not be giving myself points for any of these challenges. However, if I win a challenge, I reserve the right to chose the challenge for that division.)

Oh I played the wrong speed japan. I had the other one down to 7 perfects AAA. Oh well gotta start over with this one.

Edit: Okay both of the ones I have are different. One I got 383/16/1 and 3 oks.

The other one I got 303/7 perfects, with 22 oks. So you're going to have to send it to me. Either instant message me on aim (staroceanfreakx)
or send it to me at [email protected].

Edit#2: Okay got the songs, here is my speed japan score so far: 405 marvs, 15 perfects, 1 great, 1 good, 12 oks. Didn't paly Klungkung yet.

Edit: My challenge is posted. QQQ (short) by TaQ, 1x, flat

Trick challenge: So deep, heavy, .5x scroll, flat

Edit: Okay, my dad reinstalled files from our old hard drive to our new one because we had a virus, and so I lost everything I downloaded in the last 3 months, (including SM), I still have my songs from DWI, but I can't get SM to work, as you can see here. So, if anyone can go to that thread and help me get SM to work, I will appreciate it very much. BTW, if I can't get it working, I might have to do my challenge on my friend's comp. riiight.gif
