It is dieing because more people are stopping their hobby, than new people are actually starting. It isn't dead, and if we want it to actually stay alive then we should tell the people who are playing on beginner mode that they are doing well. They will be happy and try harder and play alot. So if we don't want it to die, then get off your butt and bring new people in. But if your arcade is packed, I think you should push people out xD _________________

like once a month a post pops up like this....its so hilarious!
*start patriotic music*
Come on people DDR wont die down, even more so now the ITG is just starting to get up to speed. Come on peeps let it go. DDR won't DIE! It wont ever "die". It may become less popular when ITG takes over but the DDR tradition and comunity will never die. And I can gaurantee you all that DDR Freak will be here for long after you stop playing and it will still be DDR Freak. It won't become ITG Freak. DDR is here to stay! DDR FOR LIFE!!!
*end patriotic music* _________________
Call it DDR! Call it ITG! Either way, it still taste like chicken.
Konami created it (DDR), RoXoR perfected it (ITG), and we should all respect them equally. |

It's kind of funny that there have been no veterans around to answer this post. As long as DDR is dead in Japan, there will not be no more DDR, unless old versions are localized for consoles. When was the last time you saw an arcade get a new DDR machine? Anyway, if you enjoy it, have fun with it, until it gets old for you. Peace out. _________________

The veterans generally stick to their local forums, not this one.
Ah, DDR's not dying. I remember in 1999 seeing a ton of people gathered around a machine, talking, laughing, cheering each other on. And I see the same thing every time I go to the arcade now.
Actually, rephrase. DDR may be dead - I don't know - but it certainly isn't dead in NC. |

Its dying because people are hearing of these new crazy things called "IIDX" and "Pop'n Music". Also simply because its getting to the point where anyone who was serious about the game is just simply too good. 10 footers are no longer a challenge and they haven't found a way to make 10 footers harder without making them impossible. The previous games have huge learning curves and songs thatll likely never have a true "Perfect score" on them. _________________

This is how I look at it, we have been playing for quite some time now, probably even when the game first came out, to say that it is dying out is sorta like saying we are growing up and find the game less cherrshable as opposed to how we did when it first came out.
I noticed this when I began to look at it that way, "ddr is dying out" while technically that might be accurate, the truth of the matter is that it's not. The even younger audience is getting in on it and keeping it going. I looked at the stats one day at our local arcade - back then ddr was the main profit of the store, now since I said that ddr is dying the stats are still true
So that is what I think of when people say that it's dying out. DDR will be almost as nostalgic as a few other games have been in the past, but the overall concept of the game will not kill the game.

Basically DDR has fallen into the same popularity as Karaoke (minus Konami's attempt to bring back Karaoke with Karaoke Revolution).
It'll always be around, but something extra-ordinary has to happen for it to be at the popularity it once had. It's just "old" and that's why it had died down a bit. But like others said, as long as you enjoy it. Same thing with Karaoke, not everyone likes it but it still is around (I can't sing to save my life ).
Now if you excuse me, I'll be playing Japan's newest fad: F-Zero AX. But seriously, DDR for life _________________

I think it's starting to die down around my area. I know that a couple of years ago at Pinball Pete's in Ann Arbor, one would have to wait behind at least 3 people on any given machine to play. Now, I can normally walk up and have my choice of which machine to play on. On the upside, I have my choice of machine to play on! _________________
Well, the final total was 207, 342. The fuel pump went out, and since it would cost too much to fix, I donated the Buick to charity.

Not me. All I've ever gotten to play was DDR's 4th+ 7th, 8th, that's it. No other music games. Ever. Well, I did play PIU once, but it sucked. |

I go to Pinball Pete's in AA on Friday or Saturday night and usually there is a 1 person wait. Not always but it happens. |
