Sorry, I didnt know if this should go under chit chat, game play, tournament forums or what.

We are planning a doubles tournament and just need some ideas on how to run one, since none of us have ever been to an official one.

Please just post any ideas/suggestions/whatever

Please post ideas here E1.gif

And to prove this is for real, the tournament link is below. nerd.gif

To begin with, make sure you have TWO pads E15.gif

Heh, sorry, just had to.... but isn't it the same thing as single? Just use the PA form of scoring, no?

I suppose you'd do it pretty much the same as a singles tournament. The only difference is that because you can only have one person playing at a time, you'd need to play two games to see who wins.

Just make sure opponents play the same songs. If one person gets an Extra Stage and the other doesn't, just ignore the Extra Stage score.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it. I've never been to a (well run) doubles tourney, so I'm just throwing out ideas that aren't proven to work well. E15.gif

Hey, im running a doubles tourney as part of TOAST (a big tourney event happening here in eugene at the end of the summer), and heres how I'm doing it.

At the beginning of a round, each player is presented with a card with 3 songs on it. They cross of 1 of the songs, and play the two others. At the end of each song, the dance point percentage they get on the song is calculated, and then written down, and added to the dance point percentage they get on the other song. Then after everyones played both songs, all of the percentages are ranked, and the top x people advance to the next round, and you repeat till only one's left E1.gif

that idea is a good one to build off of

i dont know how helpfull this will be but ive hosted a couple SMALL (5-8 person) doubles tournaments between my friends for max2 before. what i did is let each player pick a song. arranged the songs in a nonstop course in ascending ording according to difficulty (you could have light standard or heavy as the base difficulty and arrange ties by the other setting's difficulty). each player then played the course. Person who passed the most songs wins, or the one with the highest score if they passed the same number.
