n00bs piss everyone off they think their all good cuz this one guy looked like he was 16 (im 14) and he thought he was all good cuz he get a B on a 3 step light song so to kill his confidence i did beginner mode and failed the 2nd stage on purpose(no one good @ ddr was around so i wasnt all that embarrassed) so then the guy asks if i want to go against him so i say yes as long as i pick the first song. then i get on and he goes to light and i go to heavy and say that its the only way to get better. he didnt believe me and stayed on light. he told me i was just gonna humiliate myself but i said its ok. so i go to tsugaru and i get a B and the guys just like "what the HELL??!?!" and im like "so whos embarrassed now?" that was funny. look, i kno that in most arcades im a n00b but this was the only ddr extreme machine for like 15 miles and he thought he was a pro |

heres a tip to n00bs: when u say "i almost passed it" when u failed in the middle of a song is like saying "im the best DDRer" when u can barely pass any light song |

Alright, then I'll be a bragging expert. Because obviously that's a lot better.
This is so lame. Stop posting. It's annoying when anyone brags, not just n00bs, but what's even worse is people who have to waste up forum space on how annoying it is to them for other people who are just trying to give themselves confidence boosts.
For instance, I recently started playing Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. In Austin, there are some of the best 3S players in the nation. So one of my friends who happens to be extremely good pounds my face at the game on almost a daily basis. And I tell him how I'll beat him one day. It's not bragging, it's just trying to keep up in the hopes that maybe one day I'll be as good as him.
But you know what he doesn't do? HE DOESN'T GET PISSED OFF BECAUSE I MADE A HARMLESS LITTLE JOKE. In fact, he still encourages me and helps me out. |

Anyway, I can easily do 8 foot songs, where my brother has a lot of trouble doing 6 foot songs. After playing B4U about 1,000 times, he finally gets a B on it, and says: "Ooo! I can do B4U on Standard now! You know what? I think I am ready for Heavy mode!" So he goes and tried Abyss on Heavy, and fails quickly, and says "Wow, thats a hard song, but I can almost do it!!" AHH!! I feel like I want to punch him sometimes!!! And right now, as we speak, he is trying A on Heavy, and fails, even before the fast part starts. And tried it about 100 times already!
...And, he says he can do any 8 foot song now, becuase he got a D on CowGirl. lol
Sorry about the rant, but I felt like I had to tell someone. |
It seems like your brother just wants to learn to play DDR. What are you so pissed at?
And Someone that can only do up to level 8's is a n00b in my book. |

OK, here's my opinion: I don't mind newbies at all, no matter how many mistakes they make, we were all there once. What I DO mind is people who brag about how they can do f.i. JamJam on expert, and when you make 'em show it, they fail halfway through, and explain it by "Since I'm so good at it on diff, I thought I could do the heavy as well!". In other words, I don't like people who pretend like they're something they're not! but that's just my opinion! _________________

I think people are talking about two completely different things on this thread regarding n00bs. There are the n00bs that really have no skill and are just talking big; then there are the n00bs that are sincere and really trying to get better (no matter how annoying they can be in the process).
I think the original poster of this thread was saying his little brother was somewhere in the middle. Brothers tend to annoy one another and I'm sure his little brother is doing it to not only get better at DDR, but also wants to feel special, gain attention and annoy his older brother if possible |

personally, i try to give new people a compliment or two if they seem happy about their grade. i think we all agree that the only time a "newbie" is annoying is if they are arrogent, but yea i agrre wif sync _________________

wow it looks like Sync just described me perfectly. actually here is the basic way i act towards n00bs in the arcade. i have a few different set of n00b classification.
1) Brand n00bs: basically the people that are just trying the game out for the first time. i dont usually encounter problems with these people other than when they dont know the rules about the coin line.
2) Basic n00bs: these are the people who are just getting into the game but play very repetitively (same songs every single game). i try and explain to them that they wont get better if they only play one set of songs, i only get mad at the ones who wont listen.
3) Suckup n00bs: these i hate the most, they are early/moderate heavy players and they never shut up. they will ask for my approval about every song they play. i really get mad/supirior to these people.
4) Learning n00bs: these n00bs are a rare breed because mainly the general public of n00bs are overwhelmingly annoying. the learners ask for help on different things and actually listen to advice, i get along with these n00bs the best.
if you have anything to add to this i would like to see other's imput. |

izuma has sort of a good point...i dont classify noobs though because there arent that much at the arcade i go to. but if i see someone failing pretty bad at a song i ask if they need my help...now if they tell me to go f*** myself then i get mad and i watch them fail. but as i said earlier some people have major issues. c'mon watching people fail because you like it? how disturbing is that? i thought people came played just for fun...but damn...people have turned this into a sadistic pleasure of sorts. c'mon its a freakin game for god sakes! _________________

If noobs don't try heavy songs, how will they advance?
If you can't stand your brother trying something new, don't go to a forum and complain, tell him about it. That'd be an interesting conversation though...
"Stop trying songs you can't do"
"But, I ca-"
"No. Shut up." _________________

Well, one can involve the other, you know... I honestly don't see how one lies to himself if he says either of those two quotes you brought forth...

I'd say that I find arrogance a lot worse than being a "n00b". And enjoying to see people fail is, to my eyes, a proof of cockiness.
Confidence = good. Cockiness = bad. End of story, that's my opinion.
Sync, Inzuma, and USD, you resumed it all well. Hats off to you guys! If there is one thing more annoying that newbie-ism, it's those who think they're above newcomers... _________________
