Ok, I have obtained a CF pad in a recent tournament I attended. Right now, it is sitting in my basement because I have to wait till I can set up my own room in august. My question is will it be safe to keep it in a basement for 3 months before using it, and will it still work to its full potential?

As long as it isn't sitting in a pool of water, it should be fine. However, before you play on it for the first time, you'll probably want to clean it pretty well to get out any dust or critters that may have taken up residence in the pad.
If you have the opportunity, however, I'd recommend hooking it up at least once now to make sure everything works okay. That way you won't discover a problem three months into your six month warranty. Obviously, you'll still be covered, but if there is a problem, better to get it taken care of while you're not playing rather than sit around waiting for a fix when you are wanting to play. _________________

What kind of metal pad? The typical metal pad supports up to 300lbs. The only problem sitting on the pad, is if you sit on the arrows for too long, the foam that spaces the arrow and the copper grid may get compressed beyond the point of recovery. Which could cause ghost arrows. But if you were sitting on the center panel, where there is no foam, then there would be no problem. Either way, simply sitting may not break it, but may cause problems if you sit on the arrows for too long... |

I am not sure what kind of pad it is, but I can try to take a picture of it later one today. I usually sit in the middle...I'll get back to you in a couple of hours after my school session has ended. Unless the problem is already solved, but I just want to answer your questions.
What's the best kind of thing to clean off the arrows/metal surfaces? Will Windex do?
EDIT: Oh yeah here's the type of pad...as for the cleaning supplies, I will be careful to not use too much! Thanks for all your help!

Soap and water only (didn't know windex breaks down plastic). Just make sure those liquids don't seep/leak underneath the arrow, where the copper grid and aluminum foil are.

I'd say thats a smart decision, getting a pad that matches your game usage. You will want to do the sheet metal mod before you play, so it doesn't begin to ruin the contact system.
If the adapter is the triangle shaped one, super dual box, it may require you to activiate it into dance mode (start+select+up for 3-5 seconds). That'll will make the arrows be mapped to buttons rather than axis. If you check on stepmania's website, they have a list of supporting adapters.
Oh, chibidjinn, you play with no shoes on metal pads? Doesn't your pad have a bar? |

Windex, soap and water, I guess anything that you use for cleaning tables or windows will do. Just make sure those liquids don't seep/leak underneath the arrow, where the copper grid and aluminum foil are. |
DO NOT use windex on the arrows, amonia based cleaners such as windex can weak'n the arrows, and cause them to get a foggy look to tem. soap and water is fine. |

You mean these?
Almost like Mymybox pads. With peg feets on the bottom and internal control box. They are ok, but aren't the greatest. It lacks an outer metal frame that provides additional durability and the arrows are arcylic. Also you prob have to get rid of the peg feets and mount it on a board for better stability. There are better pads like RedOctane and some ebay retailers, so check them out.
If you were pointing to the actual arcade pads that go for $300+ dollars, thats another story... |

I don't have a ton of money b/c I only have a paper route! |
Ebay: judydeals($100), ngult($129) (both pads claim to have polycarbon arrows like RO)
discount-auction say they have polycarbon but the pad they send isn't (tx-1000 acrylic arrows)
I wouldn't spend the extra money on the bar... You'll either end up breaking the pad or yourself trying to use it like the arcade. Also the arrows are acrylic as oppose to polycarbon. The pads are decent but lack the more durable arrows. Yes you would need to apply the sheet metal mod to any metal pad other than a CF. The aluminum foil underneath the arrow is not very durable.
That actual pictured pad is good with frame and polycarbon arrows, but there has been a case where a different pictured pad was sent with different parts... |

I don't wanna buy something from RO b/c they already ripped me with their Ignition 2.0 for xbox and ps2. |
how did they rip u off? they do have a warranty i think and its a pretty reliable pad manufacturer. |
