it depends how many hrs or whenever u play with the pad.
13 pad of mine last at least one month each.
then 14 pad, it was the same kind and it only last bout 3 days. the right arrow always the first one to stop working . now im playing ddr using circle. its fun though but cant do it with faster songs. _________________

After 14 pads don't you think its time to build/order a hard pad =p
I've only had 1 soft pad for about a year and i'm already starting to build my own hard one. _________________

It depends how much they are being playing on, the type of metal pad, and how well you maintain them. |

Are you talking about these hard pads?
Cause those pads are garbage. Made of plastic which breaks easily.
Ignition/modded non-ignition pads can last for 6 months if made correctly and taken care of. Metal pads should be able to last for atleast 6months with a good chance of fixing any problems that arise during or after. Cobalt flux pads supposely last forever, or lets say, longer than any other pad you can buy. But like the others said, it'll depend on the amount of usage. |

Thanks, vsmaco. I'm asking because I wore out a cheap pad after a couple months, bought an ignition in January which is toast now, and was just wondering if this was just the way things were. I'll check out the flux. _________________

I've had 3 Naki pads, each of which lasted about a month and a half. My Ignition pad, however, I got in December and it still works just as well as when I got it. I must not be as rough on the pads as everyone else... _________________

when i got on heavy, i had a madcatz soft pad. when i got on heavy, the right arrow got stuck down and the pad kept slipping. it really pissed me off. but then i ordered a metal pad on ebay for like 85 bucks. its lasted me two months now and still works like it did when i put it together. _________________

I'd prefer a price that doesn't put me into debt with the credit card company. _________________

If you have the time, access to a table saw, a 12 volt or stronger drill, tin snips, and about $100 worth in supplies, you can build one that should be easy to maintain. The idea being that you built it, so you should know how to fix it. I'm almost done with mine, and the guy that came up with the design said he's had is for about two years now, no problems.
Barring that, get a Cobalt Flux. They're expensive, but indestructible. The only reason I'm not buying one is that I want an arcade replica, and Cobalt Flux covers all of their pads with a rather thick layer of lucite, so you can't feel where the metal brackets would be.
Soft pads are good to start, but if you start getting into heavy songs, they'll die rather quickly. There are exceptions, but it looks like most people agree soft pads last about a month. Ignition style pads seem to last anywhere from six months to a year - loger if you don't mind the occasional flickering arrow. Look at the soft pad sticky for discussions on extending pad life, but no matter what you do, eventually soft pads will get flaky.
I think the most amusing part of that statement is that if they just used a slightly thicker plastic for the internal wiring, and better quality foam for the layer between the internal wiring, soft pads would last much longer, without a significant cost increase. So far as I've been able to tell, from looking at the inside of every soft pad that's eventually died on me, everything from a cheap MadKatz to a Red Octane Ignition pad all use cheap krinkly plastic for the internal contacts, and foam that tears or bunches up inside the circuitry. This all leads to ghost-steps, unresponsive arrows, and sometimes outright pad death.
So if you want long pad life, mod and hope for 6 months, or buy an ignition and hope for 6 months to a year, or just circumvent the whole thing and go for a Cobalt Flux. I wish there were some kind of middle ground, but for now, there doesn't seem to be. _________________

Don't be like me and realize this after 16 soft pads. Not a fun time. _________________
