I'm gay <guy>... and Shawna is gay <girl>... but I have never heard anyone call me a DDR cigarette--neither Shawna. We go all the time--and people watch--yet no one calls us that. Well maybe it is because we don't seem gay... eh. They're just jealous because we're better than most the heteros who sit there.
Shawna is progressing well on light mode--and I'm still trying to do all the heavy songs--with stoic as my next priority.
Kind of funny--well--some guy called one of the good <straight> players gay because he looked funny playing maxx unlimited <doing those jumps> without the bar. I turned my head--looked at him funny--and said "He's not the gay one here..." and did a little kiss and he just left the arcade. |

I did that song... and got all into it <jokingly of course>. I waved my hands and shook my booty--and was laughing the whole time while i did it. Got a few stared--but I think they knew I was joking around <i wouldn't be caught dead doing that in a public place despite my sexuality> |

Dre (can almost PA) wrote: | I actually have noticed quite a few homosexuals playing DDR. I honestly don't worry about it 'cause I don't have a problem with anyone for anything, but I think that a lot play DDR simply beacuse it's something that:
1) exerts energy (a LOT of gay people I know end up being frustrated about things more often than heterosexuals),
2) gives them a sense of community (in case you haven't figured it out, DDR players tend to be VERY close-knit) and
3) is something that lets them not be inhibited by too many limits (not trying to be funny, but showing off in a crowd kind of lets off the whole "flamboyant" thing...I don't know whether that's true of gay people, but it would help explain why there seem to be a lot playing DDR). |
1) True, true. Being gay is much harder than heterosexuality--its like a light player all of a sudden trying max 300 on heavy. Much more difficult--so they have more problems--therefore worry more.
2) Yeah--its nice to hang around people who dont care--and they share the same interests.
3) I dont know what you mean--but not all gay people are flamboyant. Only time i actually showed off was the other day when I was just out of it--i couldn't do the most simplistic of heavy songs <R3, 5.1.1., lets groove>. They looked at me like I was crazy--then I got a snack--got a drink of some red bull--and pulled off a B on rhythm & police, B on Orion, and B on Burning heat.
Though I didn't start playing because of these--I played because someone at an arcade let me play a game with him for free--and I played a couple of songs and liked it. |

Re: Asshats.
Hate to swear, and it's not my original idea, but it works:
"Dur, that is so gay."
"So why are you watching?"
"Uhm...uh..."
"Then shut the fuck up."
Bonus points if you pick something like Love^2 Sugar immediately afterwards to further bewilder the offending asshat. _________________

I don't see why people assume one is gay just because they like feminine stuff. The word they're looking for is "transexual."
People tend to assosciate DDR with homosexuality because sometimes two men play together. But still, it's wrong, usually players don't touch each other then playing despite the pads being next to each other. |

Umm, if that's the reason, how come when two guys are playing Soul Calibur, no one ever calls them gay? |

transsexual isn't the right word, either. that means someone who believes they're a woman and actively pursues surgery to make them one. the word you want is probably 'effeminate', which is just a guy straight or gay who likes girly stuff. not that DDR is a girly game, hey, dancing started out as a couples thing meaning that for every girl who danced they needed to have one guy _________________

I had a witty reply to Slowpoke, but deleted it because it would inevitably cause points.

This subject makes me infatuated and filled with fury. I know how you feel, but myself I have never been made fun of because I play DDR. Sometimes my younger brother might poke at me because I play, but look at it this way, I do not pick on him for the things that he likes or enjoys doing so why should he? Do not listen to their foolish negativity. You know it takes alot of effort and skill to do anything and many people believe that they can just jump into the game and do as good or better than you, but that is not true what-so-ever.
Turn the other cheek and offer them to play, if they presist then you know to take proper action to settle their annoyance.

haha throw rocks at them...because they are ignorant bastards. I hate people who use that term loosly... sence when does Homo, cigarette, bundle of sticks queer, mean someone you just don't like?. Homosexual, gay, and any other slang terms for it have a specific meaning and shouldent be used loosly like that.
Don't listen to them, they are either
A: Idiots with no wit to come up with any other good insult(don't see why they would hane a reason to in the first place) so they call you that or
B: insecure about their own conflicting sexuality _________________

I never get made fun of
in fact Im very sure some asian girls (about 15 or 16)
were hitting on me after I AAed Daikenkai
(oh big pimpin')
and advice for the people who are being called gay
just say to them
A) Pull out a knife and charge at them
B) Say "I frick your mom up the buttocks last night"
C) (say this if you actually are gay) at least I look better than your girlfreind
but me myself, Im straight.
in fact girls either beat the crap out of me cause they think i wanna feel them
or Girls think my eyes are pretty ( and 2 girls called me sexy legs and started feeling up my legs and to ) _________________

Here's what you really do. When you get called "gay" finish your songs and walk off, then, stand behind them very close(within 2-3 inches or so). Breathe deeply and sniff occassionally. If they don't get anxious and leave inhale through your nose loudly and scream out "OMG, this dude smells like Pine tree and continue to inhale loudly" that usually works. Unless they sniff you back. _________________

I can answer this is in 1 word.
embarrassment.
They are embarrassed. How do I know?
Think about when you had sex education. There were always the 4-5 people laughing when the word penis, vagina, and sex occured. I used to think it was because of immaturity. But it's not. It's because of embarrassment. When you watch a video of sex ed, and a penis shows up on the screen, some guys would look away and say, "Gross, ew, AH!" While others, don't care at all. The ones saying "Ew Gross" are embarrassed about looking at it with no reaction, causing other people to think of them as gay. But I digress.
Basically, what I am saying is that they are calling you gay, because they are trying to show off thier own masculanity. Someone like that would never say, "Hey, look a that guy dance. Isn't that cool!" No. Why? Because he is embarrassed of sounding gay.
I am guessing there was more than one person around you when the people called you gay. Right?
My advice:
Ignor them. _________________

I think the reason this hasn't been locked is because any mods who have seen this believe it's actually worthwhile discussion. I know I think it is.
Now, I, personally, am straight, but I know that it's quite possible that I look gay in my first few rounds of the day. I don't really care, because I know one thing nobody else there does - I'm not gay.
Just yesterday I watched Will and Grace. They went to an arcade and started playing DDR (I *think* the banner was green...), and Grace was totally sucking. Only a player would notice this, but they were using both pads on singles play, but whatever.
Then, after she fails (It even shows the "FAILED" screen!), Karen convinces Jack to try it...He loads up Abyss (Light, I'm sure), then starts busting out some crazy buttocks moves. Thus, gay guys are better dancers. It's just the way it is.
EDIT: Oh yeah. If they keep doing that, just kick them. I should do some research on the kick that uses the most power from your calves, but once I get that, I'll tell you how to kick them. A kick from a DDRer is like a Fatality from Mortal Kombat. Without the bloody mutilation. _________________
