Future Master wrote: | Hi. I recently increased my stamina to AAing burning heat, ps, max300, maxx unlimited, and A'ing lom extra stage with no breaks and no bar. I never breathe hard and my legs never lock up or feel like they can't move. How did I do it? My feet don't move that much like JSB, and I just let my feet flow. Most people concentrate soo hard on moving around on 10 footers that their legs lock up and they get tired. So don't try to hard on fast patterns with purple steps like V oni . Your legs shouldn't feel all vibrating and stuff. They should feel like if it was a simple 1/4th and 1/8th pattern like freckles while playing 10's. As for people saying increase your stamina by running and exercise it is all bull in my opinion. Back in 7th mix, I was on a cross country team and I ran at least 5 miles every other day. When I played ddr I thought my stamina would have increased from all the running I did, well it didnt. I could not pass the maxes back then with a good grade and with out my legs locking up. Now after having not running for a year, and only playing DDR once a week I have forever solved my stamina problem by playing like JSB by barely moving my feet, not by exercising and running. I don't get tired but I still sweat a little bit but no where near as much as I used to sweat. What is my point here. My point is that everyone who can at least pass 10's can have the stamina to pass them without getting tired if you don't move your feet too high and don't force yourself to move around. I suggest watching the JSB vs Reflex LoM video here http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=reply&t=17507. I hope this helps someone improve their stamina and ddr skills. |
I'm sorry but that's your opinion. I've been training by running and such and I've seen vast improvements in my endurance. And I owe it all to the hard work I've put into running. I'm even close AA'ing PS. I couldn't do this stuff in the past. So this post just nullifies your post. That might be your experience but I can't see how this type of training isn't beneficial. And to top it off I play EVERYTHING without bar.
That's like saying that going to college won't get you a better job. You,me and everyone else know that that's not true.

Indeed, the above holds true for me, as well.
When I played for a couple hours a night on my metal pads at college, I had the stamina to pass LoM Heavy. Now, I can only play a couple of nights a week for maybe an hour at the arcade, and I can't even touch LoM anymore. More practice on harder songs for longer equals better stamina and results.
Having said that, does anyone have some tips for a 9-10 foot player to get his timing back to glowing 10 levels? _________________

I've been playing over a year now and I still can't pass Max 300 and other catastrophics like Legend of Max, etc. How can I start passing these? It seems like i can't get any better. Also, I ve never aaaed any songs ever. How do i improve my skillz? I also have trouble with tricky beats like "so deep" Help! I want to start freestylin' too. _________________

I have only played since august and i can pass alot of heavy songs.. nothing totally insane though. I found it alot easier to play when i was inshape though. Its kind of offseason for me, so im just getting back into running before summer soccer and that good stuff. I play every day though... and i see improvements now and than. It always helps to have a pad that works though.. i just bought a new one yesterday.. i ripped the old one too many times |

for me? i played ddr since july 2002. i played max 300 for two months when i passed it. i couldnt pass it that much afterwards, just came out of nowhere with loaw Cs. then a month later i passed so much it got me bored. after that, i started working on my PAs. i finally AAd it a few months ago(say october or november) after around 50 plays(a guess). right now my best at it is 8 greats FC. i average around 20-25 greats w/o bar. hmm, i was hoping for tips on max 300. still no AAA. |

Eh...I'm kinda stuck at the moment....I have been playing for around four months and I can get a B on Max 300(heavy) and pass MaxX Unlimited 3/4 of the times that I play it. I have gotten afronova down to 1 boo(jump run at the end) but I have 328 perfects on it...my pa is horrible. Can someone tell me how I can improve my pa and my playing skill? Im never gona be able to do oni's if I can't improve my pa. I want to start going to tournys and stuff but I'm not good enough yet. I hit a wall :crys: _________________

well i'm not sure what the max combo is for afronova, but i would suggest playing it on 1.5, that helps a lot....you could do it at home if you have a pad and go to training and see what arrow(s) you are hitting early or late, that is the only advice i can give to ya, either that or video tape yourself and see where you get the greats and the boo. |

i had an idea for helping to read arrows! i dont know if it has been posted previously or not, but im too lazy to look. Play unison by your self! have a pad under your feet and a controller in your hands. i just got done with a game of it on standard. it takes skill to pass decently or even to do the jumps with the right timing. the arrows get really dense at times. its fun! _________________

many people want to know opinions on songs to improve general areas so i'll post how i did it for singles and doubles. maybe it will help one person. course this is just opinion (how i learned):
singles:
(s) brilliant u2 (og) \____triple steps
(s) so deep /
(h) look to the sky \____practice small patterns and jumps
(h) .59 /
(h) holic \____running repetitive common simple patterns
(h) dam duran /
(h) era[nsm] \____turning/running long patterns/the other 3 steps
(h) amp3 /
(h) drop out \____jumping
(s) maxx unlimited /
anybody who cares to learn doubles: songs that are great to work with for learning crabwalking/charging and such in heavy are the following (just slow these down on home versions and slowly increase the speed... jump right over light and standard):
paranoia 180, .59, mjapan, amp3, so deep, sync love, candy(nv) and (although pretty psycho looking) rhythm & police --if you can nail r&p with very little error, everything else will look pretty easy...
you should be able to tackle about any double song now with a standing chance with those mastered. now it's just a matter of using mods to pull off something like sakura (h) x1.5, boost, hidden, dark, reverse _________________

i try to spend like a minimum of 5-10 dollars a week practicing. i usually do two songs that i can pass first, but i'm not really good at like super star or absolute. for the last song, i always do something hard. right now, the heavies i'm working on are rhythm and police, sakura (oni, cuz heavy is hella hard), v for extreme, and a few others like max 300.
here's my choices for good songs to learn with:
rain of sorrow standard: when i was moving off light, i played this cuz it looked easy for 5 feet. but playing it had a lot of half steps, freezes and air. it's a good song with balanced variety.
era (any level): this song makes you have to listen for slowing pace. it's really annoying on heavy at the end, with a 100 step combo continuous.
let's groove heavy: possibly one of the easiest songs in the entire game. it's really good when you're transitioning from standard to heavy.
drop out standard: so damn fun. and it helps you work on your speed and timing.
well, i'd add more, but i have to go to class. so peace out, and keep working hard everyone. ganbatte! _________________

The best thing in the world is to have a pad at home. My friend and I invested some money to build a pair. We practiced like mad and dropped alot of weight. Needless to say, our skills jumped , and we no longer suffer the shame of getting a "Noob Ranking."
So, my advise to is either buy a reliable pad, or make one. It pays off bigtime. Oh yeah, and playing like JSB actually helped me out ALOT. What I did was watch the movie of him playing Reflex about 10 times, and tried to mimic his lower body movement for experimental purposes. IT WORKS MIRACLES. I won a state championship in track and field at my high school (yes, it's on the records), I ran the 400 meter dash. It feels about the same as when you finish Maxx Unlimited heavy. After learning to move like JSB, my arrow reading ability ( for some unknown reason) jumped, and I was less tired after doing 9 and 10 footers. It helped me, at least. No offense to other players and styles. _________________

I was wondering if you have any tips for getting used to the metal pad at the arcade. recently i bought konamix and a soft 10 dollar pad. throuh diligent practice i went from light- lower standard to heavy in about 2 weeks . i have only played on the arcade extreme machine twice since then. both times failing very familiar songs. songs that i can make a B on at home i failed or just barely passed. i blame this on the differences to between the soft pad and the arcade pad. but since i play on limited funds i dont have the money to fail 2-3 games. what do you suggest? |

I recommend: 1) Try not to lift your feet too much. 2) Watch out for the Stanley corner braces ( those metal triangles that hold down the arrows to the pad) when you do turns. 3) You don't need to stomp, because the arrows are naturally sensitive and it destroys the pad over time (and besides, it's freaking annoying), however, make sure you use enough force so you can "hear" your steps to keep your timing. Other than this, just practice and don't be intimidated by all the pretty lights and arrows.
Have fun, and I hope you see results. _________________

My friend told me to practice and practice Abyss and I will get better. So I can A or B it consistently now and he tells me to turn on shuffle and do it again. Well, I can't pass it at all. I tried three different shuffle patterns and every one turned the entire streams into crossovers. The especially difficult part is when I get turned entirely around between the streams of up/down/up/down/up/down whatever.. the transition between them is just insane. I can pass Tsugaru, Matsuri Japan, Paranoia KCet and Max, as well as most 8 foot songs but Abyss on Shuffle is harder for me than all of those. Any advice on other songs I can play to get good enough to do it? I only play on 1x if that makes any difference. I think the reason I'm failing is because I just can't keep up with the crossovers.. the shuffle patterns turn almost the entire song into crossovers it seems. Any advice for working on that?
EDIT: Ok I've tried some more on 60% speed and they're not even crossovers.. I can't tell what the hell to do. They arrows appear to just be completely random. |
