I saw some asians playing it and I just fell in love with it. That night i bought DDRMAX for PS2. Then I played at home for awhile. Then i started playing at both at and arcade. Oh yeah i started like Janurary 2004 so like 4 months now. ANd now I'm working on my first freestyle Butterfly lol. |

I once tried DDR during the summer of 2003, and failed horribly. Then, on october 2003, gave it another shot, got hooked. On december 2003, I could do 5~6 footer standards consistently. Moved on heavy on february 2004, now am doing consistently 7 footers, can do a good bunch of 8 footers. Recent milestone passed is: Kakumei Oni.
That's how it is right now... _________________

I started out on Light. First time I ever played was on October 14th, 2003. I could pass most light songs, but I would almost pass out after play a 4 or 5 footer (Dynamite Rave on Light almost killed me y0!). about a month later I started standard. Soon after I got my first standard AA on Saints Go Marching . Around January I started on Heavy mode. I struggled with 6s and easy 7s but i believe in Late January I got my first Heavy AA on Let's Groove. After I got one heavy AA the rest just seems to keep on coming. Now from mid January to today I've got 187 heavy AAs and 11 heavy SDGs and it's pretty nice looking back on when I could barely do light and now do Rhythm and Police and not even break a sweat (by the way im 5'20" and 255 or so lbs....big dude i am). Representin' da fat people y0!!! werd. That's about it. I've only got 2 more 7-footers left to AA then I have nothing but 8s 9s and 10s...and they are two nasty 7's too (D2R and Miracle >_<). Hope to hit 200 AA soon. That's it! Have fun reading that load of crap!

I'd say, about a year ago exactly, I started going to the arcade to look at people play. I'd play every now and then, but only like 2 out of the 4 songs, and let the others fail. Mainly played at home for the most part. All the way through June, I'd just stand in the corner and observe how others played (mainly players on Heavy).
In mid-July/early August I seriously began playing. I moved quickly through Light, and struggled on Standard for a good 2-3 months. By early November I had moved to constant Heavy (never AAing a Light or Standard song, by the way). My first AA was Kind Lady, Sexy Planet Oni, and then Freckles. All within the first month of moving to Heavy. By January I got my first AAA on Heavy (and the only one since, because I don't want to spend a lot of money on a song..)
And now, here in April I have 218 AA's/52 SDGs. Still struggling with the Maxes and Survivor Paranoias, but I'm going to get them. _________________

In the sight of this flashy like videogame that goes with the name of Dance Revolution,
its easy to see why i play today.
Dont get me wrong, im a passifist, the mike was the first of my tries
but the reason most people play is the same we all play.
To get the crowd
to get the town.
To be recognized,
to be handed the prize,
to be the one they all know, to be a force so reckoned with
that people are mistaken for you.
this is the force that people have inside,
our very own drive,
to play so hard all these years,
and go to an arcade and finally drop the bomb.

I first went to the mall in.... April 2003, and then I heard this new type of music I never really heard of before, coming from the arcade. As soon as I passed by the arcade to see what it was, I saw, Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix. I remember raising a brow and saying, whats this?? I decided to try it out, and popped in 2 tokens. I played on the light difficulty and chose one of the first songs... Absolute, I believe. I was able to pass it. I was like, whew this is pretty tough, I'll try some other songs. Then I went on and tried Neverending story, and relized what the foot patterns on the bottom meant. They were the difficulty. And so, I went on, and came across B4U Glorious Style, and winced at the crazy difficulty. 5, I think?? Haha
Then that night, I thought I had crazy mad skills-- But then I saw some people doing songs on Heavy difficulty. I was like when I saw some guy named Lawrence do DamDariram on heavy, and Kick the Can.
So,
I bought DDRmax, went home and played it. Then I went to arizona over the summer, bought Konamix, and played it. By the end of the summer, I was able to C, Super Star. By December, I was able to do Nine footers.
Now, I am able to pass every nine footer, with at least a B or an A, and I can pass the tens:
Bag, Outer Limits, Sakura, Max 300, and Paranoia Survivor. I could even pass that tough and demanding song, Cartoon Heroes.
Then I see some old faces... the people I was so impressed by, when I was barely starting out. They're still doing those same easier heavy songs, like A or something, and I am now far far better than they are-- and they were playing for some three years?... I think its because they havent played it as much as I have.. because I'm pretty damn dedicated to getting better. _________________

Back in the fall of 2001, my girlfriend at the time forced me to try out disney's rave on her soft pads at home..that was my first experience with ddr. We didn't think much else of it until i moved down to soor (i used to live in the seattle area), then i got bored and summer 2002 i started playing again (ddr usa and 4th mix <3) I continued through the winter, even driving 80 miles to play on the closest max2 machine (for a while, because i wanted my speed mods damn it <3), and then i discovered that there was going to be a tourney in eugene (a couple hours north of me) in may of 2003. I went to this tourney a no bar low mod user, and i left after getting throughly destroyed, and converted into the ways of bar raping and modding stuff high Ever since then i've been a PAing bar raping mod whoring fiend _________________

First time I ever played DDR I passed both Sakura and Cartoon Heroes on heavy. W00t.
... but I suppose that shouldn't be so amazing, since I'd also passed every song on Pump it up on crazy.
But even if you count my 6 months of experience from Pump towards DDR, I think being able to sight read the mess that is Cartoon Heroes is pretty damn good... That was back in February. Now I've got 7? catas AAed, and 40 or 50 in AAs total, including a couple 7-8 footers on heavy double.
Yay for me, or some crap like that. |

I only really got into DDR when I became a CIT at computer camp last summer in July, heh. One of the other CITs brought two hard pads of some sort (don't remember the brand) and after the campers went o bed we'd play for hours. After a few weeks I'd gone from light/standard-ish to barely passing eight-footers on Heavy.
When I got home I ordered a cobalt and continued to play a lot, and by early October I could pass pretty much every cata and a few tens (PS, 300 and Unlimited). At that point I'd lost interest in DDR for about a month or two, but after picking it up again and playing for a while longer, by December I realized that I could sort of PA and I started working on AAing songs. It took me until at least February or March before I could pass Legend consistently and full combo virtually any song on 1x.
These days I'm just focusing on getting as many AAs as I can. I've got 116 recorded (I have lots more with speed mods but I don't count 'em)... no AAAs yet but I've black flagged Freckles a few times. I still can't pass PSMO, but I'm working on it. D;
[edit] wow, it really pays to have a detailed progress log. P _________________

I started playing DDR about three years ago, but I was aware of it much sooner, just too much of a wuss to go up and try it. After a couple months of USA mix, and a soft Konami pad, I started playing at Buckland Mall. This was waaaay back when Buckland actually had 3rd mix. Nostalgia. Then I played as much as I could at buckland, also training at home with Konamix. Got Cata-worthy about a year ago, and now I can pass almost all catas (damn you so deep) since Buckland's demise, I haven't been playing all that much. A couple of people kinda ruined DDR for me, and since then have not played for a bit. _________________

I think the first time I played DDR was at Gameworks in Ontario CA. I don't remember the mix, but the year had to be around 1999-2000. I sorta was like a non-DDR player, not used to the steps and such. For 3 years I didn't really play, then in December 2003, I got the game, bought the crappy naki pad, all because I got a PS2. I practiced...I didn't know you could put both feet on "both arrows" instead of the center.
Now I can play easy heavy songs! But it still isn't good enough...:(but now I feel like the people I use to watch who were really good.. |

Over the weekend I recently began to pass even more 9 footers. I've passed Kakumei, Paranoia KCET, and now I'm trying to pass LOM(standard) with no mods. |

I'd done a little ddring in the fall, enough to where I could pass most light songs. All I asked for for christmas was a PS2, Max2, and a dancepad. Got them (foam pad like the redoctane, but a different brand). Despite being incredibly sick, I spent the rest of winter break diddering. I'd play for hours on end. It was cold and that's what I did to keep warm, by god! So by the time I got back to college, I was firmly in standard, and then my friend got me to try Dream a dream on heavy and I B'd it the first time. Unfortunately, now that I'm at school I don't have time to play more than an hour or two a week (sadness). I can pass all but Vanity Angel of the eight footers (working on that one). Haven't had time to play hardly at all in the past month or so because of finals and such, but at my peak I played at a ddr party for like five hours and then passed a long nine footer my first try. Was given major props for that by DJNArush, who referred me to ddrfreak. Sad that I only just got around to coming here, but... |

April 1999, five years ago! I saw this article in a magazine called Tips & Tricks (publishe by Larry Flynt, the same publisher of Hustler--go figure!). It featured a token from a nearby arcade called Cyberzone Arcade in Koreatown. So I checked the arcade out & it had the DDR 1.5 mix machine. I tried the first song on Easy Mode "Have You Ever Been Mellow", failed miserably & started to walk off the arcade. If it hadn't been for a DDR player named Jenith (Bum Suk) who told me how to play the game, I would have never been a DDR locations scout for the Southern CA area. And the rest is history! Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

started 2 years ago, approx right before summer of 2002.
after mocking the game for about a month, i've decided to try it (outta curiosity), turned out really fun. played alot at home, then tried it at the arcade, beat Kick the can as first heavy song at the arcade.
about 1 year'ish later, failing Max songs, get about 100+ greats on every song
now, refer to NNR in sign for scores.
