I have a PS2 model 39001, so I guess that makes it a V7. I've read a lot of the pages so I think I know what to do now, but I'd rather ask and confirm.
I'm really psyched about IIDX, DDR Extreme, and the Guitar Freaks/Drummania combo discs. In order to play these, should I send my PS2 to psx-tech and get a Magic 3.1 chip installed?
My biggest concern is the effects it'll have on playing games normally. What about Final Fantasy XI? Does anyone know if the mod chip installation will affect the network adapter or the new Hard Disk Drive? Hopefully I won't have to choose between the mod and FFXI......
...but any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. My limited experience consists of using the PSX-change 2 on my PSX to play a backup of Megaman X6 and that's about it. _________________

Ah, but FFXI is hardly a normal game.
I've read reports that installing the HDD (hard disk drive) modifies the boot process of the PS2, causing many (all?) modchips not to work any more. Does anyone here have any experience with installing the HDD in a modified system? I'd be interested in knowing whether this is true; this has the potential to affect us all in the future, if a future PS2 DDR release supports the HDD.
I *can* tell you that the network adaptor does not affect imports.

I know the DMS3 works hand in hand with the hard drive, allowing you to install movies, and allows you to install roms for Genesis and SNES. _________________

Really? There's a modchip already out that allows for installing programs on it? Nice!
Now how about buing a 120GB HD, and using the PS2 HDD Utilities to format it and use it instead of that 40GB one? .
Oh, and, the Hard Drive renders my Magic 3.1 Modchip useless. The network adapter never did, but as soon as I started playing FFXI, I stopped playing imports .
I have to unscrew/unplug the HDD anytime to play my imports. _________________

Okay, so I got my (used) copy of 4th mix in the mail. It looks like it's in fine condition, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the disc. I have a USA PS2 with fliptop installed, a breaker pro, and swapmagic discs. What combination of these will work, and what options do I need to use at the Breaker Pro menu? I keep getting a big red "don't" symbol (circle with slash) and some illegible writing, right after the initial memory-card prompt. (I'm booting without a memory card in at this point, so as not to complicate the issue.) I've been just booting the PS2 with the breaker pro in, and swapping when it prompts me to, with various options chosen or not. |

That writing is Japanese for You're Using a Modchip!, get the antimod codes out of the import thread, or patch youre game. _________________

I figured, though I thought I'd be thorough in my description of the problem, just in case that was a symptom of something else. I can't use the antimod threads, as Breaker Pros don't have a place to put them. Several people here (in this thread and the import thread) said they'd successfully booted 4th mix with a Breaker Pro, with one noting that the anti-mod killer had to be on, but not detailing what the rest of the settings should be. I tried various combinations, but nothing seemed to work.
And it'd be cheaper for me to buy a japanese PSone than to patch, since I don't have a CD burner. I am willing and able to use something other than the BP, but since I have it, and other people have had good luck with it, I'd rather not purchase additional equipment.
[Edit: I'll note that I read the entirety of this thread and the import thread before posting. Crashed my browser twice with all the images, since my computer is dilapidated. No-one gave step-by-step instructions for booting 4th mix with a Breaker Pro. If one of the folks who has done so can either reply here, so that Larrikin can put it in the first page FAQ, that would be great.]

Hmm. I didnt really have enough time to read all of the posts to see if this was covered, but I have a reguar PS. Just a US version. I also have had the Goldfinger (Game Enchancer). I bought the DDR original game, as a Japan import. I was hoping the Goldfinger would let me play it, or atleast work with a few codes. It hasnt worked. Ive used a few codes too, and no improvement. The game doesnt really load. It does start up, but it goes straigt into this big black screen full of Japanese writing. Im pretty sure it must say something about me not being able to play it with my system. I am probably going to go out and buy the US version soon anyways. But Im just wondering would it really be in any way possible for me to play the Japanese import of DDR. |

Some of us make $1000 a week or better, and *still* can't afford to buy all the Bemani we want... _________________

Europe and I think Austrailia use PAL, every one else uses NTSC. Im pretty sure most modchips can get around this but I dont know about teh Fliptop. _________________

Yes. You need someway to access your swap disc without pressing the eject button. _________________
