How do you mean 'lose their quality'? Do you mean the play chart or the audio quality of the song? |

I will agree and here's why:
It's a proven fact that when DDR mixes are created the audio files are compressed to a point where the quality suffers. There are 248 songs on Extreme, plus videos and programming crammed onto ONE 700MB CD. Consider that in order to fit all those songs, the audio for them must be compressed DRASTICALLY, and by doing that you lose detail that you MUST hear in IIDX because you're actually playing those notes/sounds. Also, the quality of the sound card and speakers that are found on most DDR machines (considering the age of the average DDR cabinet) also isn't the best. All of those factors put together will seriously comprimise the quality of the music you're listening to. Good example: Listen to the MP3 of L'amour et la Liberte' away from DDR (mp3 player, cd player, whatever, as long as you've got decent speakers/headphones) then listen to it on the machine. Do the same with The Least 100 Seconds and even Maxx Unlimited (or maybe PSM). You will notice certain aspects of the songs that you can't hear on the machine unless you REALLY listen for it. Machine volume is another factor here as well. If you're playing on a quiet machine, then you definitely won't hear parts of the song that you can hear if the machine is loud. I'm fortunate enough to play in a place with a very loud machine so I can hear the songs just fine. _________________

oh well yeah, the machine is compressed a lot. i thought he was talking about the editing from the beatmania versions to make them ddr-friendly. _________________

You know... if you are unable to accept the act that there is not enough space... here's another option...
How would you like to dance to a 3:11 timed max road. Lets call it Road to Groin-pain.
Forgive me... i'm mad today.
Well apart from the length and the compression space you have to accept the fact that you would either be sacrificing the songs you play by putting longer songs. if the songs were long, there would be less stages and if they made more minutes and left all 3 stages youd really have to be making people inpacient. well... i'll be goin. _________________

Of course, when you have to remove some parts of a song to fit the time constraints of DDR, you lose some quality. Isn't that a given? I mean, unless there's a song where taking something out makes it better, of course Beatmania songs lose quality when cut.
The really big question is... would you rather not have those songs in DDR at all? Even if they aren't as good as they used to be, are they still good? I'd say that, despite the sacrifices that must be made, these songs are still awesome and fun, and they should definitely belong in DDR. _________________
