i'm really concerned about the competion and popularity around where i live. it seems as though all the people that used to play dont play anymore and everytime i play at the ddr machine its filled with newbs. i want to know if the same problem is happening to u guys, bcuz i'm not sure if i'm just going at the wrong time or wrong place. if this is a problem for all of you, well put it this way, i'm concidering quitting due to lack of competion.
btw...i live in Los Angeles, town: Glendale, state: CA (maybe some of u guys live near me (or Burbank) and realize this also |

i live in Rialto, about an hour away from glendale. the new players thing is common. theres always going to be newplayers. if others are quiting, then they just got tired of it. just because everyone else is quiting, doesn't mean you should quit to. if they all started jumping off a bridge, would you do it to? _________________

I consider myself a new player, and in the past 2 months I've began playing at arcades on a regular basis.
I think the release of Max and Max2 got a entire group of new people, such as myself, interested in the game, and we are just now begining to pop up in arcades.
Will we all be cocky loser idiot n00bs? Of course not, that just depends on the person. _________________

There's always new people starting to play here. Some people stop for awhile, but come back, or still come to just hang out with the normal DDR crew.
But here in North Carolina, I see no sign of DDR getting old. There is a lot of competition here. And it's definately not losing fad, even for the amazing players here. They still play it even if they have almost AAA'd the whole game. _________________

It's not dead, it's probably just the people you used to play with that are losing interest. I work at an internet cafe that has an Extreme and there are plenty of new players here for a good years worth of more playing. I don't think DDR will die as suddenly as you might think. _________________

...but it won't last forever either, unfortunately... One of these days, the "old" players will quit, and there won't be any newbs to take their place...hopefully that won't be for another couple years though... _________________

Wow! Another DDR player from the Glendale/Burbank area. If you're talking about the DDR machines in Glendale, they are okay. As for the Galleria locations, most of the players go there on Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights. But the left side is still messed up. It seems like Squirrel_Wrangler has most of the high scores up there. The MAX 2 machine in Jewel City Bowl is still broken. And the DDR Extreme at Video West Arcade is still okay, but it's expensive. Best bet is to go to the DDR locations in Burbank, both at All Amusement Fun Center and in Pickwick Lanes! Hope that helps! Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

Then the new players come and become the old players and so on and so forth. This is not a bad thing, this is the way it is for all things. Why should being a newbie be so bad anyway? Where you not a newbie once? Why is it that you believe newbies are so bad now, when you were one yourself? Everyone starts as newbies, and the old players always eventually quit playing so much, this is not a loss, it is a change of pace is all. No big deal. Don't be so elitist. |
I have to disagree with players getting as good as they can get. Players will always improve over a period of time.
Everyone was a newbie at one time or another. The reason why some of us older players don't like them is becuase of their manners. This isn't to be said about most newbies though.
Lastly, ddr is only dying in a way. All of the older players can relate to this. We look back and remember how great it used to be, but now it is all messed up. I watched the ddr documentary and it caused great emotions to arise within me. I showed and reminded me about how great it used to be. But, not to be worried. As I said in a few other posts, big events will definitely show up and get ddr back on its feet again. It'll be just like the old days again. |

OMGLulu!, I understood the point of your post. I believe that I said newbies aren't bad in my first post. I was not against you at all. I felt that it was just a good opportunity to point out that you will always increase in skill over time.
To answer your questions. Yes for the first. No for the second. If no one cared about ddr, it would have been dead by now. I was not being pompous at all. It's quite simple, if no one gets machines or runs tournaments ddr would not exactly be alive today.
The only reason why I might sometimes seem so radical, i guess you could say, is because I still love ddr. I am working hard to keep ddr going on into the future. So, I kind of have to express my views.
DDR-RaGeX, man don't quit. There will be competitions. There is just a temporary break from tournaments. There will be more coming soon. You live in SoCal while many of us live in places where there has never been a tournament. Patience will most likely pay off. |

If by "Are", you meant "or", then you're right. Konami needs to understand that DDR isn't the only bemani people like to play.

Konami does understand. This is a big reason why they're taking a break from ddr. They have been working very hard on IIDX and Pop n. It's the arcades around here that must learn this. |

The reason why you think this way is because:
1). There are no good locations in Glendale
2). There are no good players in Glendale
3). No one wants to hold a tournament in Glendale because the last two bombed (First one was actually at Eagle Rock, second was a really bad one held by KIIS at the Galleria).
Tournaments pick up during the Summer and Winter, but usually run very thin in between. You just gotta be willing to travel and get out of your locale to see how you actually fare against real competition rather than judging yourself against the 'newbs that fill the machine.' _________________

Well, you what you all don't understand is that Konami of Japan is focused on the Japanese market. Although they know that bootleg DDR machines are spread throughout the USA, they dont necessarily make any money off them. (Since they're bootleg kits)
As far as IIDX and Pop N' Music are concerned, I bet there's no more than 500 people in the country that play them, with only 10% (50 people) playing them semi-hardcore. Why in the hell would any arcade want to cater to such a small percentage when they can be making money with another game, although inferior. Cruzin' USA in any arcade will make much more money from the random schmuck that walks in compared to IIDX that only one person would play.
When it comes to America, Look at the home installments. MAX, MAX2, Ultramix, and soon Extreme. Many more people buy this than play in the arcade, I'm sure in part due to lack of embarassment, shyness, etc. It's been a semi-cult hit because of it. Hell it made the list of MTV's Video Game Countdown (15/15 isn't TOO BAD compared to all the other games that could have been on the list)
Anyways, That's my 2 cents. _________________

Hi. So I live in Burbank, and I must say Burbank is one of the worst possible towns to live in to play DDR. There are only two decent locations, AAFC at the mall ( i wouldn't even call that decent) and Pickwick (not really decent either) No crowds, no interest. The only people who care about the game are fucking freaks who wear capes and have self assurance problems. DDR is doing just fine all around the country, there is still interest, but our area is just one without alot of it. There has never been a big tournament run in Burbank, only one in Glendale was possibly the worst run tournament of all time, so that might explain why there is such little interest in the game, competitively at least. As the best player in Burbank I must say, I hate the game, I hate everyone in the city of Burbank, and I hate DDR. So ya... I hope I gave you something to think about. . OH YA THERE ARE ALOT OF UGLY GIRLS IN BURBANK ALSO. |

No problems with loss of fan base here. (I live about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA)
There are a lot of frequenters at the arcades, and I have about 2 dozen friends who have PS2 DDR games, 4 of whom got them after I got them addicted.
I got hooked about 4 months ago
Got the whole PS2/DDR ensemble for Christmas, and I'm lovin' it.
Great fan base around here. |
