Ok.......

Ive been playing the home version on the soft pads for 8 months........
I got so bored at home so I wanted to visit an arcade........
Today I went to one then all of a sudden I play on the regular metal pad....
After passing a few songs with bad grades on heavy I am like HELL NO.......
I can do 7-9 footers with at least an A or B.........
But the arcade gave me a D or failure........

So my question is........
Has anyone played from a soft pad to metal pad and start to suck and get bad grade???

Man those metal pads............

yeah, when you play on soft pads, you may develop bad habits (like sliding really low) where in the arcade the brackets are in your way for that..also, the perfect window for home versions are larger than the one in the arcade..try playing in the arcade more, but play lower difficulty stuff at first until you're used to it

I don't know if I would go so far as to say that the great and perfect windows are bigger or anything like that. It seems to me that is more of an excuse for poor arcade scores than anything. I think all of us here know that the arcade pads are far different than anything available for home use, and that is the real cause of the score differences. For instance, I play on MyMyBox metal pads, which one has to push the arrows down into the pad approximately 1/4" to trigger the arrow, whereas on an arcade pad, the arrows do not have to be pushed any notable distance. This difference causes timing problems because one will get trained to push at a certain time on their pad, which is probably not the same timing needed for the arcade. Indeed, now that I play at the arcade about three times as much as I play at home, when I do play at home, I am always off time now because my timing has adjusted for arcade timing. To say that the scoring windows are different, however, is simply incorrect in my view.

Well this sure sucks.......... sigh...............

I used to slide on home pads but i keep hurtin myself on those hard mats.......

maybe im wearing the wrong shoes.......
Cause i use these hella light shoes.........
if i plAy with regular ones maybe i do better........

I gotta get ready for my school reward trip at great america........
Kids at school say that he plays ddr and make fun on the how i play.......
I play heavy with a twist to it........
I gotta show them how good i am to shut them up........
but the metal pads sigh........

I think this probably belongs in gameplay, or maybe even arcade discussion - but that's ok, since I'm here, I'll post anyways!

The perfect window is different between home and arcade versions, but I had trouble going from arcade to home version. I played arcade first, then got the home pads, and found the home pads more difficult. I thought it was just a difference in the timing of the steps, and this has since been confirmed. I felt like the reactions to my steps at home were slower than in the arcade - meaning I would have to step earlier to get the perfect at home. I don't know if it's a difference in the length of the perfect window, or just the perfect window's timing is a bit different, but that gave me issues at the beginning.

w00t. I am so happy. My parents just ordered some metal pads identical to the arcade. I don't have to worry about the difference between the arcade and home now aside from the perfect window difference.

Alright, I sat down with Ultramix and experimented with the timing controls. Verdict: They're spot on, as far as my playing ability goes. My great count on After the Game of Love Light (easy as it gets) was > 10 at -1 and +1 timing... then at 0 it was at a not too terrible 3. I kind of pushed a tad early or late throughout the steps and standard timing just plain balanced the best. Hope that helps people. If you think I'm wrong, say so.

Going from a soft pad to the pad at the arcade is a big transition.

I should know - I just started going to the arcade a month ago. My first visit, I was really clumsy. I kept hitting the raised metal sections whenever I would slide, or something, so I kept losing my balance. On top of that, my pad at home is slightly bigger - so often times, I would miss the arrow. Besides, the hard pads just feel different - especially when you're like me and played with socks at home, and shoes at the arcade.

But now it's second nature. It just takes a few visits to get fully used to the pad, and before long, it's not an issue. Don't get discouraged, you'll get used to it pretty quickly.

Its a bit different but it only takes a few rounds to get used to the feeling of the metal VS the soft pad also the soft pad makes you better but just have to imply it to the metal when you play. Has everyone noticed that when you play on the metal pad you get more tired when you play in the arcades or is just me? DDR 4 EVER

Its seems like it........

When I played the metal pad I was sweating like hell and grew tired fast......

But at home I could do heavy songs 60 times before I get tired and fall down but while arcades I get about 6 songs then tire out.........
