What affects you?

Like the topic what affects you while you play?
Could it be the specators, the next person in line who's gonna play and you know they're much better then you, your emtions.....and so on and so on.

For me, what messes me up most is the person next who is going to play after me (heavy stepper ppl). That's when they start looking at me, and the songs that I choose.
Also what messes me up is the background to some of the songs (like paranoia eternal). How the background goes with the notes.

There is this one kid at EA that is the most annoying person I have honestly ever seen. Loog, you know who (I don't mean Loog, but he's close lol j/k). He is like 12 with blonde curly hair and he tries to act cooler/better than he is. What he does is plays heavy with someone else playing beginner, so if he fails, he gets to keep playing. Then he brags about passing heavy. I hate him. Anyway, he tries to talk to me while I'm playing no matter how politely or assertively I ask him. I was trying to AA Sakura again, because I haven't in a while, and right at the speed up part, he walks onto the pad, frick me up, and I get like 3 misses. I swear I almost punched this little kid in the face. He distracts me. It's O.K. though, I manage the waiting list for DDR, and I usually keep him at 4th for the whole night , and that's way satisfying enough.

usallly... if someone starts singing when im dancing.. or does some kinda f'd up shi* ill kick em where it hurts... seems to shut em up

and i used to feel like that when i was doing light-standard stuff... thered be people that do catas galore... but now im just as good as them and friends with most of them... just tell yourself they were where you were at one time... they diden't AA sakura the first time they stepped up

well theres the fact that i have a small breathing problem which causes me to crap out way before i ever should(i get tired playing 7 footers on maniac). theres also the fact that my legs are to muscular and it tends to cause me not to respond as quickly as i'd like(biggest example, crossover gallops). the biggest problem i have is those that are jelous of me when i play. the people that aren't as good at me at the local arcade tend to get upset when they fail a song, and ten i pass that same song they failed with no trouble at all. they then try and screw me up while i play by trying to distract me or sticking they're feet on the pad or running in front of the screen.

i hate, i hate, I HATE those freakin' blue arrows, the ones that come in a row and it doesn't go with the beat of the music, that throws me off a lot and takes a few seconds to adjust to

Also people who shadow, (i usually don't mind) but like some of my friends who are still in "Light" stages, they can't do most standard and heavy songs but they still try, and that often throws me off

Then there's some arcades where the DDR machine is really quiet and they have a crap load of loud machines around it, and i can't really hear the beat or music, that somethings gets in the way of things too

But people around me watching, don't bother me. I don't try to impress anyone i just do what i like and have fun with it

where's SLKMMM That's my main thing..our arcade is rampant with kids (it's attached to a major bowling alley)..but i also find it distracting if someone adds their coin to the coin line in the middle of the song..other than that, i totally tune stuff out. I also have my mouth open or stick my tongue in the side of my mouth when i'm concentrating..so it looks funny

The only thing I've found that really annoys me is when someone tries to talk to me or ask me questions when I'm doing heavy songs... I'm too busy trying to remember to breathe and read the arrows to reply... on Light and Standard, (with the exception of LoM) ok, I'll chat while stepping, otherwise, please don't bother me.

At the arcade I go to, almost everyone is very respectful no matter your skill level, and will give you tips if you can do something better. But there's this one group of giggly high school girls who kind of swarm the area every now and then. They skip the line, they shadow without asking, they talk to the person on the pad. They just do every annoying thing you could imagine.

Luckily, I haven't seen them in a couple of months. But I don't want to let myself get lulled into a false sense of security.

1) Shadowers. Everyone at my arcade knows I'm a jerk if I happen to not like you on a certain day. So everyone I know will ask if they can shadow if they want to do so. Either I say yeah or I say no but ask them to sit on the pads so no one else can. People who do so without asking get pushed off. Simple as that.

2) Singers. Normally I wouldn't mind that kind of thing, but no one at my arcade can sing. I only ask 2 things when I'm playing if you wanna sing: 1. Please try to sing on-key. Offbeat singing would really mess me up if I'm not putting full concentration on a song. 2. Please know ALL of the words. If you sing and then stop, my brain is going to take a step or 2 to wonder where the lost beat came from, resulting in greats or even no-combo steps.

3) Those ghetto people who STILL think the Crip Walk is cool. I keep attracting these people, I guess 'cause I'm black, small, and I freestyle. I guess they don't get the fact that I'll push them off the pads as well, 'cause they keep trying.

4) People who decide to think they're great. "Yo, I can do that!" Oh, you can, Jaheem? -FAILS ORDNIARY WORLD LIGHT- "Yo this poopy's mad stupid. One of them white people games." Yeah, Jaheem. It's a white people game. It's a DANCING game. Don't tell me you're black and can't dance. -FAILS ORDINARY WORLD LIGHT AGAIN- Pwned, biotch!

1. Children. Just last night I had major problems with 'em, and I wanted to punch a couple so badly. I actually had my first instance of stepping on a kid last night, 'cause the little dumbcrud continually tried to stand in the middle of the pad I was playing on, even though my mom had practically flung her leg out to hit him and stop him.
And I hate the children who try to talk to you and stand right in front of the pad you're playing on and just stare at you. That, and they try and change the song. Children under 12 just generally should not be allowed within 5 feet of the DDR machine.

2. "Ghetto" people. You know, the teens/tweeners [who aren't necessarily black] who stand next to the machine and talk in some ancient ghetto language trying to act all cool. Then they see you play and act like it's the dumbest game in the world just because they don't understand it.

*ends rant* Yeah, those are the two main things that'll screw me up.

just noticed that after all the complaints about the children made me suddenly remember i left that out of my post. i'm like the biggest spider-man fan in the universe. when i go out, i gotta where something spider-man related most of the time this normallys makes kids talk to me when i play, but i just tend to ignore them. when i play at the swap meet, young, obvilously unsuperized childer under 3 will run up onto the pad i'm on and grab at my spider-man shirt which causes me to stop pick the kid up and ove them away from the pad, this causes me to fail. but i'd say the biggest problem with children is at the arcade a rule at. nobody but my self and 3 other people know how to make a coin line, so you got like 30 kids that just throw their money in the machine while your playing. this then leads to the kids getting into massive arguements over who is next, and most of the time, they're standing on the pad when they're arguing. whats worse is they try to drag me in to it as if i was even watching who was next anyway. these arguements have cost me many a AA and AAA.

hell the other day, i was playing So Deep and passed with a B. then a kid asked me to do it again, it was my 5th and last song, so i said, what the hell. i played it and half way through i failed because i was to damn tired. the kid started to annoy me by saying things like, "you suck", "i can do better" and etc. i just ingonred it, but after half an hour of him doing it, i got pissed and picked him up and stuck him on top of the rivals schools deluxe cabnit. he couldn't get down, funniest thing ever.

Everybody here seems to have focused on arcade annoyances, but I guess I'll open it up to home stuff as well. I usually play when I'm bored, or tired, or lonely, or too energectic, or want to listen to music, or when i want to have some sort of social interaction (live or with present friends) or when i'm hungry.

I almost always play, however, when i'm mad or depressed. At these times, any tiny distraction will completely drain any will to play right out of me. A ringing phone, my mother flushing the toilet upstairs, my dog barking outside, a framerate drop that makes me miss a step or two, missing an SDG on anything below six feet. Unless absolutely everything goes perfectly when I'm emotionally unstable I don't feel like playing very long.

1. Loud laughing or talking right next to the machine.

2. Little [I'm talking about 3-7 age range] children who come up and jump on either the other side of the pad, or in the middle of the two bars on that metal peice and yell something randomly, causing the person to fall off the pad.

3. The "ghetto" people who come into the arcade, walk by the machine, get in view where you can see them out of the corner of your eye, and start messing around and waving their arms violently.

4. When one person gets off because they do not feel like completeing the current song/ex.stage and one of those same "ghetto" people jump on the pad and start flailing about. In the process, hitting the person actually playing multiple times in the arm/face/so forth.

5. When people come and stand next to the machine and stare at you. I'm not talking about from behind, or from the side, but RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Or RIGHT next to you, and you can tell they are staring. That throws me of SO bad, it's not even funny.

Y'all are too nice. Forgot all about small children for one reason...THEY DON'T EVEN TRY TO MESS WITH ME.

All you have to do to get parents to keep their kids away from you is to tell them: I flail. They will do everything in their power forever to keep their small child away from the machine every time they hit you. But if the kid's like 4 or not old enough to figure out "get the hell away from the machine", then I'll try being nice and removing them my carrying instead of kicking. If I think you can think about the process and you know what you're doing, you get kicked.

I've had one ghetto black guy step on my down arrow and cause me to get a miss. Tried to get REALLY pissed off when I stepped HARD (with snowy, muddy shoes) on his $140 Timbs. Looked at him, asked him what he was gonna do since he was messing up MY game, and told him not to do it again unless he'd like to pay for a nice new set of nutz. A parent or two saw this and most now protect their kids from the pads when I'm playing.

Oh...and I'm only 5'6". You don't have to be some big black guy to scare people off your pads (it would help, but I'm a little black guy, so it can be done).

What affects me are little kids...and noises around the pads...they tend to annoy me and I miss steps on songs I can SDG. Yesterday, I was playing and some kid steps on my foot...

Some things to get off my chest:

People inevitably start talking to me, asking me "How do you play this?" and other idiotic question whenever I am trying to PA a song and doing well.

Other people, including arcade staff, have distracted me through talking, trying to move the pads (while I was playing), standing in front of the screen (putting a credit on) and it almost always so happens they do this just when I am doing well PA'ing a particular song.

Another time an aracade attendant just had to clean the machine while I was playing and could not wait until the end of the song to wipe the screen.

I have two little brothers that like to shadow me when I play. My littlest brother tries to keep up and usually stops because he is stepping on my pad. My other little brother shadows me almost all of the time we are in the arcade, even if I tell him not to do it. Other than that, no one bothers me where I play.

I guess spectators affect me...I'm not sure for better or worse, though! I guess it varies - sometimes I play better when people are watching, other times I play worse, and there are probably times when I don't even notice. Also, sometimes when I play too much, I get sore, and that affects my game too.
