It's my observation, just to begin with. _________________
BeForU was easily the heart and soul of DDR, until someone in Konami thought that it's a threat to the current structure (read: Konami's blatant overfunding of IIDX/pop'n).

To answer that question, you'd have to know how much they spent.
And overall, I'd say probably not. Personally, I tend to be a fan of KOs more than licenses, but songs like Butterfly, Captain Jack and The Whistle Song play a huge part in defining the series, especially for new and casual players. If licensing music wasn't financially beneficial, they wouldn't have done it for 8+ mixes. Trust me, they have accountants to figure this stuff out. _________________
