IIDX vs. Pop'n Music : which is better at home?

Okay, so I have the money to buy a game and a controller and I already have DDR so I am wondering whether I want IIDX or Pop'n. I have played IIDX and it is a lot of fun and I am really bad at it. Pop'n music is a little more fun I think but I will never get to play it in the arcade. IIDX is a little more of a challenge because I already have the hang of Pop'n sort of. O figure if I get Pop'n music I would get the small konami controller and pop'n 9, and if I got IIDX i would get the konami one along wiht probably 5th or 6th style. Please help because I am not very good at making descisions. I don't want this to be a flame war against which game is better, but I just want to know which gives a better home experience. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have more fun playing Pop N' Music at home, mainly because to me, it's a better game, has better features and extras. It's easier to get into also.

And the home versions of Pop N' have much more songs. Pop N' Music 8 and 9 have over 100 songs each, while IIDX 5th and 6th style have slightly over 60 songs in both.

And Battle Mode in Pop N' Music is lots of fun.

Maybe others can give better opinions.

Although I've not played Pop'n much (only on a mate's mini official controller) I way prefer IIDX, the controller feels a lot nicer and there just seems to be a lot more to it. It helps if you've got people to compete against though (<3 vjarmy) apparently pop'n has a pretty big perfect window so scoring isn't that competitive?
Also - I think that IIDX has the better music of the two.

My opinion is that IIDX is better then pop'n by alot because IIDX has alot of the familiar DDR songs that I want to learn to play. I just like to play these games to play ddr songs that I'm familiar with so thats why I'd go with IIDX

Pop'n Music. The CS versions are being pumped out consistently and there are incredibly few machines here in the U.S.

However, IIDX is more popular over here and is more often than not the favored game to people who play DDR.

Pop'n Music, definitely. The song lists are much bigger (starting with PNM 6), and there's much more variety in the music. IIDX seems to get a lot of trance, techno, and hip hop. Snore.

okay, so know I am confused again, thank you people for swaying my opinions. Now I have another question, which one poses a greater challenge? I have seen videos of both games and while pop'n music ive me migranes watching the darn thing, I barely understand IIDX, which game will give me the longer playing time? thanks...

IIDX songs are better if you plan to actually gets the CDs and arent that much different from music you hear on the radio. Plus the game is very competitive.

In the fun category however, Pop'n easily wins. There so much variety in the music. It goes all over the spectrum so it never gets bored. Plus theres just some kind of enjoyment of taking both your arms and moving them around as fast as you can. Ive never played on the small controller (Went from Popn 10 straight to Popn 8 CS). It doesnt seem like it would be anywhere near as much fun on the small controller. If you get the IIDX controller, get the Popn 8 or 9 game and play some 5 key on that. If you enjoy it go for a Ransai, Desktop Arcade, or ASC.

EDIT: just saw your reply. IIDX and Popn 9 will both give you a great challenge, but Popn is alot easier to get started with than IIDX.

Okay, I know this shouldn't be a big deal but I just want to make sure that I am happy with what I get. It would go like this....

IIDX controller ($100 ~ 110?)
+
5 or 6th Style (70?)

OR

Pop'n music 9(70)
+
Home built popn controller (built my DDR pad, I can build this)(100?)

Here's my problem, I don't really know what I want out of either game. I figure if I learn how to get good at IIDX I can go play at the arcade, but Pop'n is just such a happy game. If I did get beatmania I could build my pop'n controller while I practiced IIDX. Or I could play 5 button Pop'n on the IIDX controller. I realized through this thread that I suck at making decisions and I might just have to buy a controller for one game and the game of the other so I can't play anything....oh wait thats a stupid Idea... I hope I can't get more than 4 pop'n fan opinions and 4 IIDX opinions... Sorry for being a buggard

Pop'n Music is the easy choice.

For me, IIDX wasnt a winner for me until about 7-8th style. And even still, there just isnt enough variety in its songlist. I like them both but if I had to choose (and I did, actually), it would be Pop'n Music hands down. And its fun with small controller or the large one so dont let that bother you.

About difficulty:

Pop'n Music is perfect.

While it gets much harder than IIDX (imo. Although see for yourself with some of the 40+ EXs), it actually gives n00bs a chance to get started, unlike IIDX which basically just hurls people into songs they can't read at first.

I also don't fully buy Pop'n being more difficult. I'd think 14 keys and 2 turntables presents more of a challenge than 9 keys, especially considering all Anothers. *shrugs* that's just me.

I think most people completely disregard IIDX Doubles when talking about difficulty, as very few people play doubles. And 14 Another songs can be the hardest things ever. Pop'n Music and 7-Key are pretty close to each other in difficulty.

I don't think IIDX's beginner mode is all that great. The hardest thing for me to learn were the L-7 songs around 2-5 stars, and Beginner Mode didn't help me at all for that.
