Being deaf sucks I didn't know it was a rythem game so I tryed again and now I can beat most of the 9 footers on doubles and some 10s, Sakura and Genome Screams.

No way! It's amazing you became hooked on a music game! Yes, it's all about the rhythm and that. You're better than me at this! Does chaos mess you up at all? That normally follows odd parts of the songs... so I'm curious.

For me, it was the music that did it. The first time I stumbled upon DDR it was a 4th mix. Some kid was really good and played songs like One-Two (LB) and Kick the Can. The music was great and they way he flowed on the pad just complemented it. I watched people play for over an hour, enjoying the different songs, and hoping they'd pick my favorites that I heard for the first time just minutes earlier.

When I did play, I paid $1.50 and lasted 15 seconds. I was hooked.

Back then I thought DDR was too expensive so I didn't play ($1.00 for 3 songs). But then by a miracle I found a theater nearby which had it .50 for 5 songs (!!!) so I went there every day for a week, by the end of the week I was on standard, and probably had only spent $20 at most. Two weeks after that I was on heavy... but they raised the price to .75 for 4, so I am not able to play there as much. Been over a year since I started and I am now barely getting into AAing heavy songs.

EDIT: That had barely anything relevant to the topic. I started after playing the computer version (DWI) and then saw the arcade version and thought "they have it for real!?"

I started playing ddr when I went over to my friends house. Before I use to think it was stupid and the people playing were retards. Then I played and I liked it. I've been playing for 5 months now and i'm on heavy doubles.

My friend brought his home version over. I thought is was kinda stupidly funny...so I tried it to mock myself by playing it. It turned out it was fun and I saw it at my arcade and keep going back today

I was walking around in the mall. Pch I have no idea either. I guess it was like fate calling me. HAHA laugh.gif . But of course I go into the arcade and see it. So I'm like "hmm I wonder what kind of game this is E19.gif ". I tired it once on beginner, and WAH BAM failed my 2nd song riiight.gif . Now I am addicted to it. I've been playing for about 3-4 months and I'm an oni player (orginal song oni. Not the "able to change oni back to heavy" steps).

I dont know why I started playing really, my friends called me stupid and retarded for doing it, but I thought it was fun. 6 months later, everyone I know loves ddr, that makes me somewhat of a trend setter lol

I thought all of ya'lls stories were cool beans ^___^

Ever since this game first came out, I've watched people play it. I never attempted myself, but I really used to enjoy watching people. I had always wanted to try, since I thought it was really neat, but I never really did. It wasn't until last Febuary did I actually try! I played for about 3 weeks, and I played a lot. Because I had watched people play for so long, I worked my way up to 7 footers pretty easily. But then, after those 3 weeks, I quit. It wasn't until recently did I pick it back up again, and I'm very glad I did.

the end ^__^

My first time was when my favorite arcade got 3rd Mix Korean v2. I saw it and just stared for a little while when I put 2 and 2 together and figured that you hit the panels to play. Somewhere in that range. riiight.gif

I dropped in my 3 tokens and picked the first song that came up. (Oh man, that's so n00bular.) I failed because I didn't know what I was doing, naturally. I watched the screen and it came to the How to Play screen(I didn't know it at that time, it was all in Korean! E10.gif) So I thought, "Wtf? How do you play this damn thing...?" frust.gif

I took a break and came back later. I figured the arrows flashed on beat so I tried Upside Down and passed it (w00t).

Etc.

Now I can easily beat 9-footers and stuff. Yup. E4.gif

I started because it was the trendy thing to do. Oh and also because I needed to lose weight. And that guy in the shoe commercial was cool.

My brother begged me to play with him one day when we wandered into an arcade with a Max2. (Secretly I'd been dying to try it, so he didn't have to beg too much!) We started playing together a few times a week, and it annoyed me to no end that he was better than me. So I started sneaking in some extra practice sessions to "catch up" to his skill level.

Before long, his interest in DDR started to fade, while I got more and more into it. I flew by him in skill level. He plays only occasionally now, while I play marathon sessions at least 2 or 3 times a week.

(People often ask me how I got into DDR. I guess a 27 year old housewive isn't exactly the stereotypical DDR fiend.)

I would pass by a machine every now and then and thought it seemed cool but never tried. A friend of mine had Samba de Amigo for Dreamcast and I was able to pick it up real easily. So I first played DDR with him at the state fair of Texas two years ago (I think).....it was a 4th mix plus. So of course I sucked and felt discouraged...and then this guy came up after us and played and put us to shame. I was like, "psh, that guy thinks he's so cool."

I guess in a way it pushed me to get better cuz I got addicted and was playing 6th mix all the time, and the rest is history. The image of that guy playing "Captain Jack" and "In the Navy" two years ago still lingers in my mind.....ah memories. *sigh*
