/**Background information:
Hi, I have been playin drums for 3 years and i was at my local arcade to play some DDR today. I saw a percussion freaks 3rd mix machine and went and played it and it was really cool.
*/

Ok, So anyway i was wondering if they make an english PC version of Drum Mania / Percussion Freaks. Also, What should I get for pads? I am totally new to this but I do know how to play drums and DM is really cool. Does anyone have some suggestions for equpiment for a total n00b? Thanks,

Glitch

That depends on how much you're willing to spend.
If money is no object, then get the DTXpress drum set and connect it to the computer via MIDI-USB. You can download lots of songs to play on a program called DTXMania or Bandjam. However, the kit will cost somewhere between $600-1000.

If you have your own acoustic drum kit, you can buy drum triggers for them, connect them to a drum module such as the DTXpress brain or one by Alesis / ROland etc, and then use MIDI-USB to connectit to the computer. It's not quite like Drummania but its slightly cheaper than getting a whole new kit.

A cheap solution would be to get a DM controller released by Konami or Topway and then connect it to your computer to play, but you will probably hate it since you play the real drums, and theres no way you can play cross handed on it.

By the way, I have a DTXpress II kit myself, and it's so much more fun than Drummania cause you can play all you want, and the pads are so sensitive.

You can make the PF/DM pads sensative too, it's just a matter of replacing the sound sensors.

There is no US release of Percussion Freaks/DrumMania. The closest you'll get is Percussion Freaks, which is simply the overseas version of DrumMania. Certain Mixes will have English text rather than Japanese, although I believe later Mixes are all in Japanese, regardless.

Can't you also get them officially off of like Playasia.com or somewhere else?

Deepblue: Yeah, their little circular sensors, according to my friend Zaps, we're guessing they're like little microphones. They're about the size of a quarter, with two wires sticking out of them. Our local PF machine replaced the sound sensor, snare and toms work BEAUTIFUL.

nope, I haven't been to these boards in over a year (that was the BOO part) and not sure why I decided to check last night (random thoughts occur regularly for me)

let me know how that drum set works out (if it is compatible with dtxmania specifically) I would get one but my recent purchase of a CBR600RR leaves me broke as hell

DM9 has no English?

That sucks. I thought the no-English thing in DM8 was a fluke; but now it looks like they're gonna stick with it in the future. Boo! frust.gif

BBH: Its not like it will kill you, DM9/GF10 is very comprehensible, the japanese instructions/certain song titles dont bother me, plus you do away with all that cheesy midi crap from the earlier series (PF reference), anyways back to my grave.

Uh because they're different technology. The DM/PF ones NEED to be TONS more sensitive than the DDR ones. DDR ones rely on weight...a LOT of weight. DM/PF rely on tapping a thin rubber pad; even a tap is all that's need to set it off. Any more, and your sensor is going to SUCK. On top of that, that sensor needs to be activated, WHEREVER that particular pad is hit: let's say the hi-hat, on top of the pad, on the bottom, in the middle, on the left, right, wherever.

That midi crap is only in Korean versions of PF. Y'know, Korea only?

Of course, some arcades get Korean PF's for some odd reason. Bastards frust.gif
