Contributor FAQ - How to become a Contributor

So you want to be a Contributor? Well, here's what we are looking for.

We are looking for content, such as FAQs, and How to's.

So you think you might have something (ie. FAQ, How to)? Well, check these things first.

-Is the topic appropriate for the site?
-Does it have all the up-to-date information?
-Is fact and opinion clearly stated?
-Does it have correct grammar and spelling?
-Is it easy to read?
-Does it have the correct bbCode links and formatting? (ie. [b][img][url])

So, if you think you have all that. Send it, via PM, to a current Contributor (a Trick Member with the title "Contributor"). Have the title of the reading as the subject line. Then we will review it, and see if it is fit for a place at DDR freak. If it is accepted, you become a Contributor.

*Note* - You may not send in a Review or Article as your first submission.

Contributors then have the ability to:
-Review potential Contributors
-Write Articles and Reviews
-Gain access to their own forum for Chat

Contributors are just as, if not more important, than the Moderators. They provide the newest content for the public to read. It keeps a constant flow of traffic for people looking for the knowledge about DDR today, as it happens.

If you are going to submit something, make it good. I don't want to come back in an hour and see 40 submissions that are 4 lines long. You don't become a Contributor by submitting ANYTHING. You become one by submitting something that is QUALITY. Writing 1 quality FAQ is a lot better than 10 shitty ones. Read the entire post above numerous times and double check you have everything accurate. If you're going to submit something, the PM in my box shouldn't read something like "Hey, contribution" but "FAQ: Your Title Here."

Post any questions or comments in this thread. Thanks in advance for any submissions you may send.

Because you can only submit FAQs on your first submission, here are some examples of what was submitted at ExtraStage:

FAQ: How to PA
FAQ: How to maintain balance while doing Doubles
FAQ: Modchip/Imports

Also, even though right now you should just submit FAQs to Phrek or myself, you can see who else are currently contributors (and when more people become contributors you can PM them) by checking the Usergroups area.

This is more of a backend question, s'pose, but the system is supposed to pull Contributor articles out of a special area where they'll be kept, correct? In other words, the code for the main site section where these documents will wind up won't be pulling straight out of the forums, correct?

What I'm getting at is this -

1. Should I copy/paste/post the MC FAQ into the Contributor forum?
2. Will we need to bump the thread to indicate that the document has been modified, as was done at XS? I assume that the documents will need to go through a converter of sorts before being integrated into the main content section.

Also, image hosting? Yes/no? If yes, restrictions? Filetypes (PNG/JPG/GIF)? Sizes? Filesizes? Maximum number allowable? I've got a whole host of screencaps I took of 2nd Mix -> 5th Mix for the MC FAQ, and I was intending to integrate them into the whole thing. I imagine that after converting them to PNG, they'd be <25K each.

Actually, the way that it will most likely be done (JDogg is doing the coding) is that it WILL pull from the forums, but only from the Contributor Forum.

So you should make a thread in the Contributor Forum for any other FAQs you have written (I don't even remember what the one that's in there is

).

As for updates, that's in the Contributor Manual. Looks like someone needs to read it more closely

But yeah, based off of what the manual says, the thread will most likely end up being bumped.

And image hosting? Should I just post them inline, and then a mod/admin will come in, transfer the images to the local host, and edit the BBCode to reflect the new paths?

I think that that may be the best idea, just because not everyone has their own server (so bandwidth issues with geocities or some other place could happen), and it would make it more difficult for people to switch it to goatse.cx or something (which is now down

)
