Yah, does anyone know applying metal (w/ screws) on top of a softpad break it? I know I do have to dodge the wiring but will having metal on top damage it of any kind? Thanx in advance.

Hi All,

Just starting to play DDR, ordered the BNS DX pads for me and my fiancee. We saw seanbaby on mtv doing a run down on the best games and there was a girl there that lost 90lbs playing. Well we both need to lose some weight before the wedding and it looked like fun.
Anyhow I weigh 285 and will let you know how the BNS pads hold up. Defintely sounded like a great pad at the beginning of this thread, but looks like some people have had problems with it recently. I will definitely post back and let you know how the weight loss is going and how the BNS DX pads held up for us.

BTW, Gamespot has 1/2 off second MadCatz item. So you can buy 1 Madcatz dance pad for $19 and the second for $9.50. In case anyone is interested. I don't know if this is a gamespot exclusive promo or if you can do the same at other stores, but figured I'd pass on the info.

What kinda quality should I be expecting from them??

And, I notice in the descritpion of the pad, it says that the pads are now a bigger size... Will this affect me negatively, if I have small feeet? I have like size 8 1/2..??

I am going to buy a new pad. Currently I have a mymybox ignition 2.5 that's preformed perfect for more than a year now. I would buy another, but it was about $70.I am looking into the BNS pad. I noticed that people praised this pad and other said "oh this button doesn't work". Should I get one of these and how long do they last.Secondly, can I also get some pictures of these pads and the material used?I don't want these ripping.

FYI, I just got new mymybox pads off eBay (like http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3073180023&category=21185) to replace my older mymybox 2.5b pads and so far I really like them.

The seller claims they're a new 3.0 version but there's no actual version markings anywhere on them and they came in an unmarked 'oem-style' box so who knows. That being said, they are different than my 2.5b: First, they only have 6-arrow graphics (although the other 2 buttons are still hooked up). Second, they're a different color (kind of a shiny silver) than my old ones. Lastly, the foam insert is different; it's made of 3 pieces rather than 9 like the old and the foam is quite a bit harder. Also the arrows feel harder and slightly more elevated (could just be because of the foam though).

In any case, I'm very happy with them and they feel like a vast improvement over my old ones and it feels like my play is noticeably better than it was with my old pads (although I'm not a great player, I can now pass most 8 footers - it didn't feel like my old pads could register 1/16 & 1/32 steps fast enough).

I've had it for two months of heavy play--right now I'm doing about 7-foot songs--and this pad is awesome. It has an inch of black foam. I'm playing on thick carpet but so far have not needed to mod the pad, and it isn't showing wear. The only thing I would say is, once you put the foam pieces together, use a Sharpie to number them before you take them apart again, otherwise it takes a really long time to figure out how they fit together. I got the pad at Frys for $62, but it normally runs at $68 or so. Big improvement over cheapo pads. When I bought this I was doing 4-foot, just barely, on light, but as soon as I plugged the MMB in, I pulled off a 4-foot standard, easy. You can't get off the arrows because they're raised, and it's comfortable barefoot. Good buy.

I just received a Red Octane softpad I bought online from ebgames about a month ago, here's my first impressions:

Size: This is the smallest DDR pad I've ever seen, no joking.

Sensativity: Sensativity is perfect on this thing, on my friend's old pad I'd get great about as often as perfect, now I seldom get greats.

Price/Performance: Horrible imo, the amount of padding that came inside of the pad is minimal at best, it doesn't even seem like half an inch. It bunches up and slips often on a thick burber carpet and it just seems really thin and flimsy.

The outer part of the part seems like it's not attached at all to inside, so like the outside can move in a different direction then the inside of the pad.

I am brand new to DDR (aside from playing in the arcade a few times here and there) and just set up my first pad last night for use with my PS2. I bought one of the DPR2 soft pads and did the same mod as Spriggan72 detailed in the previous page. Took about 1 1/2 hours to complete the mod and at about 10:30 last night I finished and tested it out. Didn't turn it off till 1:00am

So far it seems to work like a charm. The textured floor covering works great and I can play in socks without slipping (though I'm only doing light mode songs on MAX2 right now. Still a big n00b that needs to learn to read the 1/8th notes) and the lexan squares over the arrows works great for feeling them out and evenly distributing my weight on the pressure sensor. I've got my second pad coming in today from Amazon (had a gift card sitting around) and will be modding it this weekend to complete my setup. I'll take some pics to post sometime in the next day or two.

My only complaint so far is that I suck!

I'm still getting used to the spacing of the arrows cause I'm determined not to look down at my feet while playing, so I'm still missing the pads some during continuous streams. I can A most all of the light songs with an occasional AA, but the second I switch to standard, I get my a$$ handed to me. I still need to learn to read the arrows more intuitively, and to ID those 1/8 steps sometime BEFORE they are already at the top. Accidently got into a challenge 7 footer last night and thought I was going to kill myself. I've got alot of practicing to do.

EDIT: BTW, Spriggan72, how do you store your pads when not in use? I don't have any good place to be able to lay them flat when not using them and was wondering if just standing them upright behind my entertainment center would be ok. Was worried though about gravity making things shift or sag over time.

Cool, I think I'm gonna have to do that too. No place convienient to lay them out around here when not in use. Just got done with a 3 hour round and my legs feel like jello. Unlocked MAXX Unlimited and Paranoia tonight along with a few others and checked them out only to be completely obliterated

. The pad is doing well though and while playing barefoot made my feet stick too much to the floor mat, socks work great (haven't tried with shoes yet, not sure when I will). Gonna mod the other pad tomorrow or sat so I can get my fiancee to play with me and so I can start tackling some of the light doubles. Anyway, pics of the modded pad:

I'm looking for some help with my Red Octane Ignition 2.0 mat. I've read some things in the 40 some pages of this post, but haven't seen just what I'm looking for:

1. There is some mention of these pads tearing, and someone made mention of putting electrical tape on the bottom of the arrows. Does anyone have a more obvious explination of this (or a picture) or any other way to preserve it. I've had iy < 1 month and I play on normal to heavy and I wear grippy socks (not shoes), but I wouldn't be surprised if a tear appeared in the future. I'm assuming the cover they sell is meant for the flimsy soft mat.

2. I was thinking about getting a second ignition 2.0 pad for playing double (single player, 2 mats) Is there a good way to fasten the 2 without making it permanent. Has anyone tried sewing something on the edges (loops to run a connecting rod through or otherwise) or any kind of velcro type solution for this? I'd prefer not to have a big sheet of plywood involved.

Any help (advice, links, pictures, or otherwise) would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought the el cheapo soft pad from BNSUSA (its silver and has the blue and pink arrows) And in a dancing fury i seem to have stepped on the plastic covering that the cord comes out of, pretty much obliterating the casing. The lights are all intact but one set of 3 came off and a grey cord was severed that runs into the controller chord. Now don't yell at me for buying the pad, I just started ddring a week ago, and i dont have too much money, $30 bucks max. Any help BESIDES throwing it out and buying a new one. Thanks for the help...
