I've read a lot of good opinions on here so far, and I'm going to share my feelings.

First off, the whole thing was crap. Why? I'm pretty sure NBA Streety didn't get even close to 200,000 votes, the amount my CPU pumped out for DDR in like 15 minutes. Anyway, like someone already said, these sort of things are made for sales; the most people out there would be satisfied with Zelda being the top game, so they put it there. And even if these companies say they aren't influenced by who's buying their advertising slots, they're lying. There's all sorts of pressure on MTV from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft for advertising. When I watch MTV, I see more ads from Nintendo than ANY other game company, maybe any other product, which would explain a Nintendo product toping the list. You think Nintendo would want to continue to pay MTV millions of dollars a year if they weren't going to be promoting their stuff in a positive way? I won't deny it; Zelda is a great game, and probably deserves to be right up there. I will say, though, that a couple of the other placements were a bit shakey. I can't say that DDRs placement at #15 is totally Kosher, but in all reality, it's really no Zelda. I feel that it should be higher and all, but I'm impressed that MTV and EGM even decided to mention it. And maybe if Konami had thrown some more money at MTV, it would have placed higher, no? As someone else also mentioned, you can't really take these seriously for another reason; they can't possibly be broad enough. This is exactly why I thought EGM's 100 Best Games Ever list was crap a couple years ago; you can't possibly fairly compare all of those games together!! I don't have a problem comparing games of the same genre, but I wouldn't really know how to go about arguing DDR over Zelda. They're entirely different things. Frankly, I think Halo sucks, and should go to hell. But it'd be really hard for me to say it was any worse than a random basketball game because they have nothing in common. And, ask yourself, does it really matter that DDR came in 15th place? I mean, were you really expecting them to place it in 1st, even if it got 100x as many as Zelda? I dunno, if you really cared about this thing and were expecting a victory, I can see why you'd be upset, but this just kinda builds on my opinion that none of these really matter anyway.

I would like to disagree with those of you who think MTV sucks. I'll certainly agree that MTV is more like "Media Television", but a few of their shows aren't half bad. Viva La Bam is moderatly entertaining, and if Dismissed is on and I flip by, I usually watch. They show almost no music now aday, but I've got MTV2 and MTV Jams for that if I need it.

Wondering why ddr got 15?

Because,
1.DDR is not as reconigizible as halo or madden.
2.There is more of a fan base accocated to the other games, sure there were many people cheating, and i called it cheating, but if the fan base is larger and the number of fan's using the cheating devices will equal a larger number of votes, therefore a higher rank.

And another thing, you people said that mtv/egm would make ddr look bad. They went to a tournament and featured the Seatle players (by far the best technical players i seen) and they featured 2 experened players of opposite sex.

HELLO THEY SHOWED THEM PLAYING MAXX UNLIMITED!!

and not to be mean but you guys are beginning to sound like fanboys.

i agree that Halo should go to hell. I don't think a game like Madden has that much of a fan following. Do people go around searching and crowding around NBA Street machines? It's all the crappy buissnessmen and their money rather than the kids that are playing the games and thats bullshit. This kind of this pisses me the hell off, especially considering that with the voting program, i had over a million votes (i kept it running over night) but a Basketball Video game still beat me. damn.

No they wont, they actually came up here and interviewed most of team Seattle. According to my friend Tanya (SaeNoDa) It went well, so I dont think thed make DDR look bad.

I agree. In all frankness, they made DDR look good with that little blurb they did for it. But I KNOW that DDR's placement was shakey, and so do most other people. What I thought was funny though was that two wrestling/fighting games TIED for a placing. Nice, huh?
I kinda wished that they showed someone freestyling and doing tricks. That would have ruled E15.gif

i was most pissed that the sims got number 3, i personally hate the game. but there saying that the sums is better than mario, metal gear, DDR, splinter cell, GTA, final fantasy, tony hawk, and soul calibur 2. i mean to most people (that know wats fun) would highly dissagree with the sims high score. but to be on topic ddr should of been in the top 3, sitting by super mario advance 2, and jet set radio (being #1) im sure there will be allot of fanboys complaining about it in there next issue.

I have a feeling the order of the countdown was changed to reflect mainstream interests (MTV does this all the time and I really don't watch them anymore since they're preppy like that), but there is a bright side..

At least a network FINALLY made DDR look good. And funnily enough, they did it by showing DDR as a sport, a diet, an escape from the harsher times in life, as a social activity, and by talking with REAL DDR players. I am very glad they didn't make it look stupid or show it like an infomercial (like X Play's review of Max 2). Now we might get some more people to get the courage to hop onto a machine when they see one since the benefits of DDR were emphasized.

I thought the same thing. It makes me wonder, on the web page to vote, werent there only 16 games to chose from? And it is odd that the countdown had 15 spots WITH a tie on Def Jam and WWE which will make 16 games. What are the odds of MILLIONS of people voteing and there HAPPENED to be a tie. I think that the whole thing was planed to make getting the interviews easier. I mean, for SC, Sims, DDR, Mario and other great games were shorter than the other intreviews like Madden, NBA, Zelda, Halo and others. I think it is because of the popular titles that need to make MORE money.

Okay I was just watching this, and I quickly ran to my computer to post my rant about how offended I was.

First of all, I don't really care that DDR was 15th or whatever, although I'm glad it was included in this show. Even though I don't play anymore, I like the fact that it's getting more and more popular and more people are enjoying the game I used to enjoy.

Okay what made me REALLY angry is... who the FUCK is team seattle? I was just staring at my TV going who the heck, how come I've never heard of them? What's... what's going on?! WHY?!

Yeah, I'd do the girl they interviewed. Hell yeah.

Team Seattle has been around for quite a long time, maybe since 2000? Or at least early 2001. http://www.ddrseattle.com .

What i'm wondering is where is the list online? The main mtv site doesn't seem to have it's links right as it gives this: http://www.mtv.com/onair/ultimate_countdown/count.jhtml which gives an error page. Anyone have a working link?

... and am i reading it correctly that there was a tie. I can't believe that ~_~

I really think that our votes did not even count, nor did anyones.

Ok time for me to explain... What are the chances that 2 games(def Jam Vendetta&that WWE game) can tie out of millions of votes, 1 in who knows how many millions. I really think that MTV and some people from EGM did the votes themselves because the chances are just too small of 2 games to tie. And about DDR, another reason to think that the MTV ang EMG people did allt he voting. I doubt that many people voted for the Zelda series comapred to the thousands of members on these boards that voted. It just doest add up.

I DEMAND A RECOUNT!

I think it turned out great, who the hell cares what place it was? AT LEAST IT WAS ON THE FUKING LIST...I mean come on....15 out of....however many games have been realeased this year..

yeah, our homegirl (Tanya) and team Seattle shot this around a month ago, and I think it turned out pretty well, it gave the MTV Whores (you people know who you are) something to think about, maybe a new craze'll hit? maybe not, who knows what's in store for DDR next, we can't try to make it happen, we just have to let it happen on it's own.

PS> MTV sucks.

Edit> BUT, we have to give MTV props for making DDR look good (which of course it is). E1.gif

At least DDR was the first thing that they showed. Hey, and maybe people might actually start playing it to lose weight. BTW, that little move where the guy was hitting the buttons with his leg and arms like a rotating table was kinda gay IMHO. But other that that, it was all good.

i wouldnt worry too much... first off i would also agree that they simply counted one vote per IP... tho i couldnt say for sure... im glad zelda beat out halo tho... i'd much rather want final fantasy AND zelda to beat it out... but atleast one of em did...

also... when you think about it... Halo is really the ONLY game that the xbox has going for it... tho they do have some form of ddr now... but anyone who plays any game from japan is gona play it on a japanese originated platform... not some bullshit from microsoft... anywho... ps2 and gamecube are really the ONLY systems you need... gamecube had all those classic games and classic remakes (like zelda/mario/metroid/etc...) that you just can beat... and playstation 2... they've got final fantasy (one which will be on the game cube soon!!)... and FF alone is enough of a reason to buy one... ps2 also has (or had) grand theft auto... but xbox people ended up getting it... which they somehow thought would kill the ps2, but lets face it... they are retards... and what does xbox has going for it? halo... um... ... halo 2... sports games that are available on ALL systems anyways (and sports games suck!!) ... i'd say that if you have no system and are looking to buy one, are you wanting to play rpgs? or more action type games... and decide on a gamecube or ps2... cuz xbox just sucks... who needs a fat mp3 player anywho??

Wo wo, calm down there, chief.

I think in the grand reality of things, the list wasn't THAT bad (could've been much worse), and I think that timing and advertising probably had MOST of the sway on the decision of the placing.

I'm the girl that was focused on in the MTV thing, and havent actually seen it yet, but I'm really glad that everyone has been saying positive things about it. I'll have to catch it when it reairs, but make sure you guys watch it or something! E1.gif

Just for info: Team Seattle was a rather well known DDR team that had a few of the best players in the country on it. Some known well, such as Foyboy and GPFlith. This was probably about a year ago, I suppose. These days, our priorities have changed, but we still play occasionally.

Keep the comments coming, I'm very interested in hearing what people have to say about the special. E1.gif
