Does anyone else play Keyboard Mania? I know of a few people in my city that do, but I'd like to know who else does, and get some tips on it. I started playing about a month ago and can do real mode already, but there's some REALLY hard songs. So, anyone willing to help me out? _________________

started playing KBM as soon as my arcade got it. I've been playing for about a week and i am up to real mode already . KBM is so much easier than IIDX... but i'm still a bigger IIDX fan.

I agree. IIDX is my favorite bemani with KBM following right behind. Anything Keymani appeals to me. _________________

I'm a fan of Bemani games, lol. Friends call me the Junkie....
And I understand how you got to Real mode in a week. I was doing it in about...a month or so, after never playing anything like it. I just can't find anyone else who plays as much as I do (that I actually get along with) =^.^= _________________

KBM is easier than IIDX? The people I've talked to think it's much harder. |

Depends on how you play exactly.
The judment system is not as harsh as IIDX so just banging the keyboard in approximately the right place of a note will get you a perfect or great. If you're a type of player that believes in the trueness of the game, 1 finger for ever note played, and wants to play the game like a real piano then the game is pretty hard. |

Over here, 99% of all IIDX players play two-handed (Me one handed 1%). They say it's easy (though a small percentage of those players actually touch our KBM 3rd machine -_-). I'm a purist, so I play one hand KBM, which is pretty difficult, but I do have a pianst background, so I pick up things quickly. Doubles is still a bit confusing as I'm constantly darting my eyes between screens. The home version doubles isn't all that great either unless you have a big TV or you can read small things. Still, though, I play it after I've had a couple of rounds of IIDX and DM... _________________

KBM is harder than IIDX, quite frankly because even by the time you're at real you're hardly confident with hitting the keys... in ddr by heavy you automatically respond to the arrows and have an inherent feel of where they are. In IIDX your fingers have an idea which big key to hit. But from my experience in KBM I'm constantly hitting the 'key next to the key I'm supposed to hit,' and I'm sure that's true for others as well. Actually playing the piano doesn't help as much, as the sheet music is thrown out, but fingering may help. I personally have a heck of a time with that 'Monkey Mountain Magic' or whatever song with the runs (ack, forgot my terminology). Like with all the music games it's frustrating at first, but unlike others there's quite a gap between songs like Presto, Cycletron, and Carrezza (sp) and Akumajo Dracula (sp). I think it's just a matter of training one's self to quicken the reaction time of actually registering and 'feeling' the right key without looking down all the time. And, like with DDR, practice practice practice! KBM improvement is so gradual it's not funny.
Eh... too long, hope that helps. |

Is doubles KBM more like playing a real piano two-handed than singles is? Or is it just one hand across two keyboards?
If it's the former, I REALLY want to get into doubles KBM. Does anyone know the distance between the two keyboards in the arcade? |

KBM is much easier than IIDX -- at least KBM 3rd Mix. You can mash your way through any song, and the timing is so loose it's pretty hard not to get Greats. True some of the songs are pretty hard, but all you have to do is mash keys to pass even the hardest of songs. |

That's why you need to turn the setting on that disallows mashing.
There's no skill or fun involved with that.
It's like playing DM, and just hitting the pads randomly. get a friend or two, and have them all banging the hell out of the pads, you'll probably be able to pass Day Dream on Extreme/Expert Real. _________________

I don't know what's so bad about DJ Taka, but oh well.
japanvideogames.com hardly ever updates their site... nor do they restock after they've sold out something (notice IIDX 3rd style has said "Restock soon" for ages). They e-mailed me saying my order was cancelled because the KBM and controller package was sold out, then I went to the site and it said "SOLD OUT" after I made the order. I wonder if they always wait until somebody orders something they don't have in stock, and then update saying it's sold out. Oh well, I ordered from toysnjoys instead, for about the same price. _________________

While KBM 1st does have Henry Henry and Mr. CC and Burnin' and a few other good songs, it cannot hold a candle to KBM 2nd + 3rd mix. So incredibly many great songs on the latter, and it has a good 20 or so very very difficult songs in addition to the 30-ish medium difficulty songs.
Get 2nd+3rd.
I love KBM. Getting RedSai hooked on it. _________________
