Lol, gotta agree with you there.
I still think that DDR should have been higher...and Zelda getting #1...I mean it's a great game but I don't think it should be #1. Final Fantasy should have been higher than #4 too. Finial Fantasy kicks Zelda's @$$ (this is my opinion of course and should be taken with the ammount of seriousness as you would if you were hearing it from a llama ) _________________

Honestly, I don't see what you're complaining about. Sure, the WWF games suck, and Def Jam Vendetta should only be used as a coaster, but what did get the top spots deserve it. What does erk me, though, is that Zelda gets the top spot, and there are several other great great games up there, but where the hell is Street Fighter?

15 is not that bad...considering that poll was done by mtv/egm (aka the video game electoral college)
and i'll bet that they'll have some random person try out the console versions (and if they get those posers from good charlotte to try it out i will disown mtv forever...) _________________

I'm with you there, but the thought of the guys from good charlotte trying to play LOM on heavy it quite funny.
Anyway, I suppose we should just be happy that DDR made the list (even if it was last place in the list ) _________________

This console generation there haven't been many Street Fighter games to satisfy something? Idk. _________________

well at least it's ON the list... the damn VGA's barely mentioned DDR... did it?
zelda is a really unique game, and i think it deserves its spot at 1. its lasting popularity is one to contest with. of course Final Fantasy is worthy of such a rank, but the game changes so much between each game (FF7's materia to FF8's magic stocks to FF9's 4 party members to FF10's voice acting).
and MTV would make DDR look dumb. _________________

Does it really matter what MTV says anyway?
In my honest opinion, MTV isn't worth listening to. Why? Because MTV stands for Music Television, and music is the last thing they do have anymore.
MTV2 should be MTV, and MTV should be "The Station of Anything Tangentially Related to Music".
And I don't really care if "tangentially" is a word or not. After a word like "thurr", anything is possible. |

Folks, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
These "Top 10 games ever" lists? They're just advertising, just more covertly than normal. There's no objectivity whatsoever in these lists. You have to go in realizing that these lists exist not so much to reveal the editors' thoughts about the best and worst games of the year/ever. They just want to sell more stuff. The more salable entry wins every time.
Remember Nintendo Power's Top 100 games in Issue 100? Which game was #1? Super Mario 64. It ranked above all Final Fantasy Games, ranked above all Mega Man games, ranked above all Zelda games - Hell, ranked above the original Super Mario Bros., without which Super Mario 64 never would've existed. Why is that? Because they wanted to sell Nintendo 64s. They figured if they put an N64 at the top of the list, people would read it and say, "Hey! These guys say Mario 64 is the best game ever! I should buy a Nintendo 64 and play it!" Ask a car salesman which one is his favorite. He'll point to the most expensive one in the lot.
DDR is not a lucrative series. Its console releases are more-or-less potboilers. Its main draw is in arcades - which are all but ignored in today's gaming magazines. Playing it requires that you spend an extra $30 on a pad that slips all over the floor and wears out after six months, which puts a damper on its popularity as a console series. Konami doesn't have the same market it had back in the days of Contra and Life Force, and would rather spend its advertising dollars on safer properties. It has a collection of devout fans, but that's about it.
Don't expect DDR to win any awards, or to rank on the top of any magazine's list. It's never going to happen. _________________

nheyne wrote: | While I agree that DDR should have been higher than #15 (just opinion) I was more outraged that Final Fantasy was only #4. Some punk game like Halo gets more credit with one title than a best-selling series that is unquestionably better than even Zelda. |
Bleh. Zelda 64 bored the heck out of me, lacking the action of the older titles, and the last couple of truly great Final Fantasy games said "Tactics" on them also. If I wanted to watch a movie and push a few buttons, I'll stick a DVD in my PS2. But that's just my opinion, I guess.
I know where DDR sits on MY top games list, and that's really the only one that matters to me. Gaming is too mainstream now for ANY of these lists to mean much to more serious gamers like us anymore.

Personally, I'm a sucker for the mother of ALL survival horror games, Resident Evil, and that didn't even make the lists. It was GROUNDBREAKING in gaming, intruducing a whole new genre, and that wasn't even on the list...
But DDR REALLY shouldn't have been beaten out by crap like Def Jam Vendetta. Seriously. And if they truly WERE a music channel, like MTV said they were, then they'd take DDR more seriously.
I do realize that everything is commercial and about sales nowadays, but for once I'd like to see a ballot that wasn't stuffed by greedy corporate jerkfaces. _________________

It clearly stated that while SMB was more influential, SM64 was a better game, which just shot your point dead. I will also note that Zelda: A Link to the Past was #2. This was all before Ocarina of Time came out as well. It may have been to sell the game, but there SM64 WAS a great game at the time (and it still is), and while it may not have ranked #1 by honest circumstances, it still would have been near the top and NP just bumped it up a bit to boost sales without pissing too many people off.
And as for the awards, Zelda shouldn't be #1. Zelda sucks ass. Shigeru Miyamoto's only flaw (along with Pikmin). Heh, I see the flames from here. _________________

Obviously they weren't actually using the statistics from the voting.
I've seen DDR more than any other game: on tv, at the arcade, in magazines, in the game stores, and the box for it lying in front of countless friends' PS2's. Blasphemey! |
