I have NTPad installed b/c I have windows xp and could not fiqure out how to map the buttons. Says to hold the button click another then release the button. This however seems to do nothing. When I open up stepmania theres an option to test the buttons and it shows joy#-joy#(not mapped). Also using the buynshop parallel converter.

I had the same problem as you did, until I found PsxPad (a PS emulation pad system for the PC). It works alot better if you try that. Get it from: http://www.fightclub.com.pk/media/showphoto.php?photo=9417 and I hope this works for you as well E13.gif
