If I were to get a beatmania IIDX controller, and download an IIDX game for MAME (Arcade Emulator), then use a PSxUSB adaptor to put my IIDX controller on the computer, would I be able to play like this?

Potentially yes, except that there are no IIDX games supported in MAME.

The following Beatmania (as in 5-key) games are supported as of MAME 0.77u2

Beatmania 1st Mix
Beatmania 4th Mix
Beatmania Core Remix
Beatmania Complete Mix / Hiphopmania Complete Mix
Hiphopmania Complete Mix 2

That's it. If you're seeing "beatmania IIDX 6th Style" floating around a ROMs site, it's actually Beatmania 6th Mix, and it's NOT supported in MAME as of yet.

You can use a sim and get BMS files.

A good starting point would be to looking for bemaniaDX on the web, and there are BMS files (the songs) all over... There are a few at www.bemanistyle.com in the media section to get you started.

*is playing BM 6th right now on DJmame*

Huh?

Just for the record, it supports ALL Beatmania roms.....dunno where you got that list from, but just type -list in DJmain, simple as that. Lists all compatable roms, which currently is every rom up until Final.

where can I get djmame?
I've looked for a while, and posted on some other site, but everyone told me that it was now just incorporated into mame.
Which is not true, because there are plenty of 6th mix CHD's floating around, and 6th mix isn't in official MAME.

let's just say, the game won't be emulated for a long time, probably until more advances in broadband internet and big harddrives happen. The 5-10 gigs or so that a partially-filled DVD and (CD or harddrive or what? I dunno what IIDX machines use) won't be TOO big of a deal by that point.

djMain/djMAME (which is what you're running) != MAME

djMAME is a completely spin off from the MAME core that people are hacking in support for games into BEFORE it gets into the MAME core release.

http://www.mame.net/gamelist.html

That's the official MAME supported list. All 5 of the beatmania games I mentioned are at the bottom.

I know support for more is planned for the next MAME release from my talks with the developers, but it's not there yet.

I realize djMain is ahead of MAME on this one, but some of us can't run djMain.

Much bigger than the current Beatmania CHDs (which go as high as 2.5 gigs), but still maneagable by today's broadband internet. I don't think any advances in broadband technology are needed.

Once you're into the PS2 game download scene and downloading gigs at a time anyways, doing an extra few gigs is nothing. On a good and fast IRC fserve running at a decent 50 KB/s, you can snag a 4-gig PS2 game (such as, say, IIDX 6th), in only 3 or 4 days - and that's on a computer that doesn't run 24/7. If you have a computer that is on 24/7, then you can probably snag a IIDX rom (if any existed) in two or three days. Those roms/DVDs will probably be a little under 8 gigs or so.
