At arcade, always shoes. At home, socks. Never ever barefoot.
Doesn't matter what kind of shoe. I never wear sandals to the arcade, so i don't have to worry about flopping around. Unfortunantly, 1 pair of shoes that i have doesn't have very good grip. It's annoying when you fall off of the mat at the arcade, cause then you lose your combo.

I play in shoes. More specifically, I play in Vans. They're quite comfortable and are better than the Nike shoes I wore before I bought these, but they still cause some problems.

The laces have a tendency to come undone mid-game and scare the living crap out of me when I'm playing fast songs...especially on doubles. E11.gif It's quite frightening knowing I'm repeatedly stepping on my laces, but I'de rather not stop. So far I've only tripped a couple of times, but I still managed to pass the songs both times. biggrin.gif

Also, if I don't lift my feet high enough, the shoes get stuck on the metal and cause me to trip. It hardly happens, but it's still annoying.

Playing shoeless is awkward to me. The pads are almost always slippery, so playing in socks will have me slipping all over the place. Playing barefoot would probably give me better traction thanks to my sweaty feet. E15.gif

I've never played shoeless at the arcade, so I wouldn't know. erm.gif

I wear my Airwalk Skateboarding shoes, or mostly my Phat Farm shoes. They have this velcro strap thing on them and I usually tie that up before I play.

sketchers DDR commercial...bleh well somebody from the TV company didn't schedule ASIANDDRCHICK to see that commercial because I've never EVER seen it before, but I have heard about it multiple times. Anyways I was at the arcade at noon hour break today, and I tried playing in socks...and uh, i'm NEVER doing that again. the front part of my socks somehow got caught near the screws and yeah, i tripped riiight.gif really embarrassing but hey whatever, I've learned my lesson. As for playing barefeet...I'm never gonna do that...SCREWS ARE SUCH A PAIN!

Very courageous of you to play in socks at an arcade E7.gif . I dont know how friendly an actual arcade machine is to feet. The pads are much tigther than a Red Octane and usually require a bit more pounding devil.gif . I should try it out tho. A Bit off topic but do arcades usually have a probelm with that? E19.gif It sounds like something they would frown upon for some reason. Well anyway, i'm still sticking with bare feet. It's the only way I can rip thru A E13.gif

i wear my skate shoes e'S arto sarii's. they work just fine for me. never tried anything different tho. a good way to get rid of shoeace problems, is if you just tie a knot in both ends of the lace on one shoe big enough to block the very top shoelace hole of your shoe. and cut off the rest of the lace. so where the lace stix out, theres just a knot there, and like 1/2-1 inch on lace left sticking out of it. then just slip em on and off.

Most people don't know this, but Hurley makes shoes. They're really good for DDR also. They're sleek, light, and have a bit of soap (that sliding stuff) on the ball of the foot so you could slide if you wanted to.

I use my Converse chuck taylor lo-top's usually, but now i started using these (call me crazy, but the arrows are more responsive when i use them, the boots slide just right on the arrows, and I just got an A on Hysteria Maniac using them):
