In the earlier mixes of DDR, each foot rating had a title associated with it (8-foot songs were "Exorbitant", 9-footers were "Catastrophic", etc.). They'd stopped doing this by the time 10-foot songs were introduced, though. So, feeling the need to give 10-foot songs one of these titles, we called them Pies.

Because EVERYBODY LOVES PIE!

I never understood the concept.

Think about it. NINE... CA-TA... it's FASTER to type and easier to say 9. What's the point of calling 10s anything? I don't say "OMG! I just passed the hardest exorbitant ever!", so why say cata, or catastrophic?

Oh yea, and it also means foot in spanish.

I thought they were called pies because they filled out a lot of the extremes on the Groove Radar, which looks like either a full pie or a pie with a slice cut out.

Actually, a lot of catas are like that, too.

The above is correct, although I didn't know about the 8's. I always thought that just meant that you were actually becoming skillful, not that it was "Exorbitant". Interesting.

pie was created a while ago when somone had a thred that was titled "If 9 is a cata, what is a 10?" or somthing like that.. people joked around and called it Pie, then Pie 0_o didnt want to be a 10 footer.
