This sounds very interesting. After reading all 15 pages, some things arose in my mind:

I own one of those "crappy" third party pads from Red Octane. I've had it since Christmas 02. Within the past couple of days it has been acting up.
From what I know, I've had minor problems with my pad. Heck, I adore my pad. My friends have CG pads and they seem 10 times worse.

Anyway, as for my problems with my pad, it seems as if the foil thing isnt exactly a bad thing. And I am Serious.

My pads history:

-Over 11 months of wear and tear, the arrows constantly break and crack. My solution? Duck Tape. I taped the arrows all up and pretty and they stopped cracking.
-My left arrow constantly has problems with the wires coming off the contact board. My quick and easy solution? Use a solding iron to reattach it. I double aaed Matsuri Japan right afterwards.

However, within the last two weeks, my father came downstairs, looked at my pad, and said that it looked really bad. I think he jinxed it.
A friend of mine ended up replacing his arrows, so he gave me his old CG arrows to place on. Seemed like it would do the trick. Whats weird is that my old arrows have this weird foil tape, and they worked beautiful. The CG arrows have this thin metal stuff? And it looks like uncrumpled aluminum foil.

Right after changing them, two of the arrows immediately (within two songs of a LIGHT nonstop) stuck, and i was so confused! I took a semi damp cloth, wiped them off, and they seemed okay. Now every time i turn on the game, they seem to stick and not work right half the time.

What this has to do with anything:

Is the contact problem of the new pads a really big deal? My old RO worked really well.
Would the sheet rock stuff be easy to fix if something did happen?
Anyone know why my arrows suddenly ghosted up?

As for pads, i wanted a new, second one anyway, and all, but i'm wondering if the new RO ones are worth it. Are they? They seem it to me. But since we are talking about pad contacts, why arent mine working right? Is it because of the aluminum looking stuff?
These pads are looking really good right about now, but it seems that everyone's complaining about the foil stuff, which doesnt seem so so bad, because it seems like it could be replaced easily, couldnt it?

no... its complicated, and these pads IMO are not good at all. i would go for a flux if you wanted to get another pad, bc i guarantee you that thing will never have any problems like your RO did

Chaotic shut up about things you no jack-squat about. You cant truly judge a RO metal pad until you own one. Woah....CF....Woop-De-Doo. If i wanted to play on a CF Id just draw some arrows on a hardwood floor. At least that way it doesent SLIP

OK, so the RO aluminum foil contacts on your RO pad were working great, but when you tried the CG contacts, which were like "thin metal", the pad started to act up. So the foil contacts on your old RO were better than this "thin metal" from the CG? Well, the new RO uses "thin metal"

Why does everybody say that the CF slips a lot? Have they tried putting the included grip-tape on the pad the way that CF recommends? I doubt that the RO slips a lot less than the CF, they both probably use the same material on the bottom of the pad except the CF includes grip-tape.

Wow my own stupidity gets to me at times. I must have been seriously half asleep to not pay attention to the fact that a couple of wires were not actually connected on (it had nothing to do with the contacts) so yay now i feel silly for posting all of that stuff. Only to be able to fix my problem in the end anyway.

Wow how i love to tink. Yes, tink, not think.

Anyway, some questions about the RO and CF:

-I'm keeping old faithful pad of mine (3rd party RO) and its 1inch tall, which is what i wonder now, how tall is new RO, and how tall is the CF? I'd love to be able to play doubles but from what i've heard the new RO is 1.5 inch tall?
-Uhm, i'd like to know more about these sheet rock contacts. How exactly do they work? Foil was never a problem for me, which is why i wonder.

Thanks much!

Sheet rock contacts? Are you talking about the sheet metal used in the CF?

The CF doesnt not slip or slide at all, on hardwood or on carpet. When you get the pad they give you 4 pieces of what I thought at first was sandpaper, but is actually some type of grip paper for the pad. Its called 3M Safety Walk, and if you slap it on to the fourcorners of your pad it does not slip or slide.
