Common lines like "It looks funny when people play that" or the classic "It's not real dancing." line... or the "It's not a video game... video games are played with your controller..." Oh yeah? the definition of video game is a game played with the use of video... which is used in those games! What is with these people? Are they so insecure about their image that they won't try a game because they might look silly the first time? Why do the majority of video gamers stay away from these games? Are they so lazy that they don't want to play something that requires you to stand up?

And why do news media always bash video games for causing children to be unhealthy yet never show DDR, Pump it Up or any of the other dance games that require you to be physical? It's WRONG.

Since playing dance games I've got better reaction time, am more social (thanks to lots of people playing them too) and in general have more fun with my game console. Why do these people resist change? Do they prefer playing the same RPG series for 10 years with the same battle engine? Do they like GTA rehash?

Is it just me encountering these dance game haters? Have you encountered them?

What is the big deal? Why are you posting that in a forum with DDR players who are only going to agree with you? If you have a problem with these "lazy" gamers who don't want to play DDR then go post that in a forum where you might reach your target audience. Obviously everyone here has seen people who think DDR is stupid. Be honest, slamming on arrows isn't very attractive.

As for the media, every time I have ever seen DDR in the media they are praising it because it gets lazy, fat American kids to at least cut even and burn off the five cheeseburgers they ate on the way to the arcade.

Also, who are you to say what other gamers should like? Who cares if they like GTA or some stupid RPG. They are wasting their time staring at some screen the same way you are. I guess because you are moving and getting some exercise you feel like the game you are playing is more beneficial. Oddly enough, people can exercise in other ways than standing in place smashing arrows. Don't be so elitist.

For the record:
It does look funny when people play DDR.
It isn't real dancing.
Get over it.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

I didn't say you would get laughed at. I said it looks funny, and it does, moreso with a song like Max300.

Freestyling? Great idea. People think the game is weird enough already without them having to see people make an attempt to actually dance on top of some metal box with flashing arrows. Not quite a redeeming factor, is it?

If it truly makes that much of a difference to someone, that the game they're playing is considered "weird" then perhaps they should try something that fits in with whatever the norm is for their area.

Maybe a nice game where you pretend to be a DJ? Less motion, so you can more easily blend into the crowd. Much of the same music...and if you did want to be elitist, then people would understand, for you would then be a IIDX player. Elitist IIDX players are more common than Elitist DDR players.

At least that's how it seems to work around this corner of the country.

I've given up tech. Altogether. I get cheers and tips from random people when I freestyle, and I get "Wow, what a spaz." when I play for points. Not too hard to decide which is more fun.

what people decide to waste their time and money on is up to them. if they like DDR or rpg's then good for them. they're supporting konami and other gaming companies, which brings more games to our feet.

it's all good biggrin.gif

Sure, you are going to find people like that wherever you find the game. Just don't let it bother you. E1.gif If someone thinks it's funny or stupid, that's their look and opinion on it. As long as it isn't your's then you should be alright. That's goes for everyone as well. E13.gif

Good point. You should post this on hard forums or something but not here.

Flamers are borne from the same fire that drives us to a AAA, it is yin and yang.. thats life... cest la vie.. whatever..

Per capita, I am sure there are more elitist DDR players than IIDX players. That doesn't really matter though, most of the elitist IIDX players were at one point elitist DDR players. Also, playing IIDX is as much "pretending to be a DJ" as DDR is pretending to be a dancer.

Also, IIDX hardly fits the "norm" as far as games go. Maybe you should have put House of the Dead 2 or some stupid off-road racing game. The majority of Americans agree those games are suitable for raising future children to become killers and/or trailer trash. God Bless America.

Dude... ok who really thinks they can AA Max300 using real dance moves? No dance steps involve stomping 8th notes at 300 beats a minute on the floor. I like ddr, but it really doesn't translate well to a dance floor.

If you think you can prove me wrong, you're probably retarded.

And I'd bet good money that there are more Elitist DDR players. I've been wrecklessly challenged by countless idiots who think they're hot stuff. IIDX?? Never.

You're still making it more compicated than it really is. If you have fun doing it, then you come to the conclusion it's fun. Why so much emphasis on what everyone else thinks?
