DDR the next pacman?

All this talk of DDR's popularity winding down has got me thinkin and I've noticed some interesting things. When you think about it, it has several qualities of a classic video game. These days it seems everywhere you look there are clones of the classic video games that put those crappy systems on the map. It hasn't even been that long for DDR, and there are already a dozen clones to speak of (pc sims, PIU, calculator games, etc.) The way I see it, we're modern day pinball wizards. 'Little kids' go to an arcade for a birthday party, see a crowd formed around 2 'big kids' filling up a screen with perfects and a few greats, and these kids are gonna wanna shoot for that image someday. I think when we're all middle aged, it'll be in restraunts as the equivelant of those pacman games in the shape of a table (well, probably not actually restraunts, but you get the idea). Technology will evolve and we'll see some toned down version that is more practical for nostalgia, but it'll be there just the same. I hope I'm not alone on this one, it's late, tell me what you think.

Very interesting point, I think the basic concept of DDR will stay with us for EVER.

Even today people still play games like Tetris and Pacman. The idea behoind those games will continue and people will continhue to play and make clones/copies of those games even in 10 or 20 years time.

With DDR I think it will go the same way. At the moment it doesn't look like there is going to be another Arcade mix (Although I so hope there will be), but the basic idea behind DDR is not going to go away. As long as there is music and as long as there are video games, somebody somewhere will be stomping on arrows.

I know, because I will.

If they don't make any more arcade games I think they should make a Collection Mix that has EVERY song from DDR on it with maybe even a few new songs.

Then maybe make some oni steps to the old songs.

I've been seeing a few people here talk about DDR popularity going down, but I think a lot of people are just getting into.When I started DDR a while ago, i only got into it with about 2 other friends. But now about ten of us usually go to play DDR and from people seeing us play even more people are playing when we go. Although it may just be that way for the area I live in, I don't think it really matters if DDR stops making new arcade mixes because there's probably a lot more people who play the console version than the arcade one, so they might continue to make some for PS2 even if the arcade dies out. Better than nothing

You're probably right. DDR has such a simple concept, but can result in lots of complexity. Lots of classic games have that kind of set up.

And at the rate people pump quarters into DDR machines, I think this is easily as popular as Pac-Man and some of those other arcade classics.

Yep, I think Konami did it right this time. DDR is pretty damn good! It sure beats the Nintendo PWP hands-down (New arcade technology sealed the NES's fate a long time ago).
