Agree with Trixter747 about the topic length... Just two comments/questions/sentences: First, I did see EB (Electronics Boutique) will start carrying RedOctane Ignition pads in late October... Do you consider these to worth the $50 or so, over the official Konami pads? Second: Which retail stores would be most likely to carry the official Konami pads separately? (Fry's I know, but I'm situated in the Midwest myself.)
Don't make the mistake I made - get the bundled MAX2. My GameStop didn't get the bundled copies in at first (picked up my copy then, couldn't wait), then only got four bundles and sold them immediately. _________________

well if ur willing to get one get an Red Octane Igntion V2.0 ($100) Softpad or a ddrnation Igntion V2.0 ($50)
which goes with my question..
are the ddrnation pads just the same as the igntions when it comes to sliding/sensitivity/life or is one better than the other?
i DO NOT want to spend $100 on ro pads _________________

I recently got the Max 2 bundle with a new dance pad and I really like the new pad a lot. I want to buy another one so I can play doubles on twin mats (also because strangely my old mat died a day after I got the new one). It used to be on ebgames.com but it now seems to be gone. Where can I order the dance pad now? Thanks.
P.S. Is the Red Octane soft pad that ebgames.com is going to start selling in November as good as the new Official Konami Pad? |

ok i just got done building and testing this quite simple modification, For me it only costs me $15 to complete the project.
Materials:
1. 37.5x36 in. Plywood, 1/2 In. thick, mostly a descent grade.
2. 3 Plywood sticks (used as border), you will need 36 inches at most.
3) A Box of Wood Screws
4) Velcro, approx. 4ft of Velcro.
I recommend using a soft pad for this, i have a 3rd party one that i modified and it works like a brand new pad (I used the pad unmodded for 2 months)
Directions:
1. Mark with a marker where the Velcro should be cut, and stick one side to the pad (between the sensors for the Left, Up, Down, X and Triangle buttons) do the same for the other end.
2. place the pad in the middle of the wooden board, be sure to leave at least half an inch of wood as a border, you will need that later on.
3. Test and mark where the sensors end on each edge of the pad (excluding the top).
4. Take a peice of the 4 wood panels you bought, and lay it on the edge of the pad where you marked, stay on your knees for it so you make sure you dont set off any sensors.
5. Take a drill, and drill holes into the wood peice, then put wood-screws in the holes, do this for the 2 other sides.. Remember, at least for me the bottom was the most sensitive... watch out when your drilling to make sure you dont drill through a sensor.
Now your pad should be secure.. I walked around on mine several times during the process to make sure the sensors worked, i also put in a dead psx cd just so i can power the playstation.
P.S. I am not responsible for you ruining your pad, this mod has been posted for those who want to modify their pad but dont want to shell out money for hardwood floor covering. I bought these parts btw from Lowes and borrowed someones drill.
Hope this helps you in your modding experience, if you have any questions, PM me, i will be posting pictures very soon, and will have them on my website. i will post the address when it is ready.

I, along with MjSi24 have noticed that EBgames.com no longer carries the Konami pad. I have a mad catz pad which isnt too great but gets replaced for free, and a Naki pad which we've had for a month or two and sucks now. I will not buy another pad unless it's this official one. Now does anybody know where else online I can find them? Only one store 20 minutes aaway from me carries them and they only had one last time I checked. Any help would be appreciated ^^ |

anyone know if either site is respectable? and are both of them just like the red octane ignition 2.0 except for the outside? what makes the red octane so much more expensive? |

Both sites are respectable, but I highly recommend that you buy the BNS (www.buynshop.com) ignition pads instead. Everybody considers them to be the best ignitions for their price, a lot of people even say they are better than the RO pads, and they come with a free PSX to Parallel port adpator. I have these pads and they are great. I can pass 10 footers on them. Buy 2 BNS Ignitions, they are only like $50 each. |

They are pretty much the same, except the RO and BNS are known to have the very dense and hard inserts unlike the other ignition rip-offs. Definetly get the BNS ones. |

I was just at my local Sam Goody (used to be on cue) and they had the official konami pad there. Don't see it on their website.. but there should be quite a few around. |

Hi, all. I'm a real newbie at DDR [only been playing a few weeks now]. For what it may be worth, here's what I've found:
I began with a $20 MadCatz, which I modded by using DOUBLE SIDED CARPET TAPE ($4/roll at Walmart -- far superior to DUCT TAPE!!!) and a 3/4" foam pad meant to go under a sleeping bag. That still slid SOME, so I used the carpet tape to put a layer of that "no-slip" shelf liner material under the foam pad. In retrospect, a softer, thicker foam pad (or the stuff that goes under area rugs to keep them from slipping) would have been better in the first place. But the results were pretty good.
THEN, I bought a BNS metal pad, which I LOVE, but my ankles and knees are hurting some (not alot, but some) from the impact [I'm lightweight, but I'm also one of your OLDER DDR freaks]. I may go back to a soft pad, and I'm considering the $50 BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme pads. Not that I would give up my metal pad, but for day-in, day-out practice I think a soft pad might be best for me.
Have others experienced impact problems in ankles and/or knees?
Here is an article that gives a good comparison of various pads:

For me, it would depend upon how old the pad is, what type it is, and how much I had spent on it. If I had a metal pad that had cost me a couple of hundred dollars, I think I'd probably consider trying to repair it with new contacts. If I had a $20 Madcatz pad, I'd probably chuck it, especially if I'd had it for several months.
If you read the soft pad roundup article (see link in my previous post), you'll notice that the author of that article had difficulty with a failed sensor in a BNS Ultra-DX mat, and they were very quick to respond to the problem. On the other hand, if you've had the pad for a long time, the question of a warranty might not apply.
If you've been using a cheap pad, maybe it's time to upgrade. Sounds like you're a heavy player!!! I'd recommend you check out this website
below. I ordered my metal pad from them, and delivery was very quick. Also, they have a very wide assortment of products to choose from. It might help you to decide.
