I play DDR a few times a week with free tokens I get from my job.
I have...err....backup copies of all the Japanese PSX home versions, plus the 3 decent American games. I play them occasionally.
I think I lose.
But on the other hand, I don't center my entire life around DDR, so maybe I win _________________

I have the extreme Jap mix and all us home verisons including the rare Disney Mix. I go to the arcade 1-3 times a week for 2 hours. I have spent over $250 for DDR pads and I have all songs downloaded on DWI, I play at home 3 hours a day. I also have a DDR desktop and AIM Icon! |

If you were really a genuine obsessed fan of the game, you'd at least buy the damn mixes.
Anyway, I once took a 5 hour drive and stayed overnight in Dallas just because there was a 3rd Mix there, way back in 2000. |

you know what's wrong with this contest so far? it's centered on how much you spend on DDR. that's really not fair, seeing's how some of us work our asses off just to get some money to go to the arcade every fourth week or so to play DDR--some of us arent really that great off! if you're too young to get a real job and have to work for the little bit of money you have to play DDR with, then obviously it seems like you're not going to win this contest.
Well, if you dont count what i've spent on DDR, i'd probably win, because since i started playing in June, i've had ten dreams about DDR and i have three homemade CDs with DDR music on them (each one has about 23 tracks). Plus, (mainly because of my major lack of money) I actually print up stepcharts, listen to the song on my CD and DDR on the tiles on my bedroom floor. Regularly.
not counting money issues, who could top that?
P.S.-- What's Stepmania? And what are DWI's? I'm not a newbie, i'm just not good with technical stuff... _________________

I've gone as far as I possibly can, being fourteen years old and refusing to partake in illegal activity (for the most part - I took all the Stepmania songs).
I'm constantly out arcade-hoppin' (a total of three - sometimes four - arcades each time), spending an average of about $10 at each one, each day. The DDR cult gathers on Friday nights, on which I spend about $30. My money is gone before I spend it, which is probably gonna turn into a real problem when I have to get a real job...
I'm constantly being asked, "What song is that?" whenever I hang around the machine. I've promoted DDR artists excruciatingly so, advertising in my art class (I based a painting I did on a song) and to the local bands (I'm working on transcribing A). In my free time, I work on rewriting some of the Japanese songs in English, so they rhyme and go with the music (I don't know Japanese, so I'm using translations). Singing "I'm Gonna Get You!" has become a part of my Saturday morning ritual, so I can bowl well at my bowling league.
I'm pretty hurtin' on the home scene, because my family's strictly Nintendo, though I did beg enough for a PSOne and Konamix. But I've messed with that enough in the two months I've had it that I've broken three soft pads from overuse (as I can only afford really, really cheap ones). I was forced to get rid of Stepmania after I stayed up till three in the morning playing endless, neglecting the rest of my life.
When I close my eyes or look at something that is just one solid color, I see arrows. I've heard bizarre things, such as the ceiling fans clicking to "Afronova" and the alarms at the mall singing "Matzuri Japan". I can't remember a night when I haven't dreamed about DDR, and I can remember dreaming of my teachers DDRing, my dog DDRing, and "Sakura" being severly messed up.
I've lost all my friends because of DDR, with the exception of those who play DDR. That sounds depressing, but it probably isn't far from true.
And then, after I've written a good amount here, I wonder about the need of this topic. This is DDRFreak, isn't it? So would it really be that shocking that we're all DDR freaks? [/i] _________________

Well, well, well. I have competition.
Besides what you said about home pads and Stepmania and stuff, I gotta give it to you on the 'ceiling fans clicking Afronova' and such. I always thought they sounded more like Healing Vision (AM) and I'm not kidding.
I see arrows too, constantly. Even when I havent played in a while.
DDR dreams every night? Wow. Its not uncommon for me to have 'sequal dreams' where my dream is a sequal to a dream I had a while ago (like my CCS dreams--being a cardcaptor is fun! ) but usually I never have a dream about a certain subject more than once. To have constant DDR dreams has been--well-- very strange for me. Each time its something new.
Now, how can you top being able to sing Daikenkai while playing? C'mon, now you gotta give me credit for that.
Which leads me to my second point: Japanese DDR songs (and anime) were my main inspiration for wanting to learn Japanese! I
ordered Riyu Kosaka's single, for crying out loud! Do you know how long it took me to find someone who had that CD? A LONG TIME. Or maybe I should classify that under the "Obsessed with anything Be For U" section...
I started a countdown 'til November 28th-- that's when Be For U's CD comes out! I even know about how much it's gonna cost! 2800 yen! (Uh, anyone know where I can get some yen? Not kidding here! )
I have ten--yes, count 'em, ten DDR sites bookmarked so far. and more on the way!
I print up DDR pics and put them on my bedroom walls! My walls are currently covered with a Chobits poster, LP pics of all the members, and DDR pics!!!
I will not rest until I have every full version of every Be For U/Riyu/Yoma/Noria song I can find! I will search my eyes out ! I WILL FIND THEM!!!
Going back to the 'singing Daikenkai' point, I can sing most Japanese songs on the game in Japanese, as long as I've heard it a couple of times, of course. (I dont have an amazing memory!) Ex: White Lovers, any Be For U/Riyu/Yoma song, Daikenkai (as mentioned above), and a couple of Korean songs too!! Ex: Bu Dam, Ba Kkwo, and so on.
TOP THAT!!! _________________

So true, so true . . .
Not that this is a needless topic, by any means. It's fun to read about just how big of freaks we are for a video game that makes you sweaty. _________________

You know you're a DDR FREAK/ADDICT...
When you eat food while DDRing at home
When you put your favorite TV show in the PIP box in a corner while you're DDRing and have the audio to the show, not DDR
When you've edited songs that contain nothing but pumping, galloping, or straight 8th notes
When you've programed your stereo's alarm clock to blast X-treme Wonderland, Stomp to My Beat, and Rhythm & Police early in the morning
When you close your eyes and see arrows fly at you
When the 8x speed mod doesn't seem that bad anymore and actually seems "do-able"
When you can determine the quality of the machine by the "squishiness" of the pads
When you hang out with highly ranked DDR players (1st in Illinois, 3rd in nation, etc)
When you're a "casual" to all the arcades within a 40 mile radius from your house
When the manager of a local arcade(s) knows you by name and lets you stay after closing hours a wee bit to DDR to a couple more songs
When you've sustained DDR-related injuries or lost your load a couple of times after DDRing
When you see a DDR machine but it doesn't even excite you anymore; you just get on the machine and jam on Player's Best Nonstop on maniac
When you go to a mall with friends you instinctly pack a waterbottle, a towel, an extra t-shirt, and a mess of quarters into your backpack
When you ALWAYS have a waterbottle on hand with you... It's just habit to carry one!
When you're complaining to your friends that you forgot your "DDR sneakers" when you're wearing normal sneakers
When you don't bar rape to any pies... I'd like to see this done.
When you try to dance like the characters from 5th mix and back
How about this for an extreme DDR addiction - I've lost 30+ lbs ever since I've started DDRing and jogging. Thanks to DDR and jogging, I'm looking a lot better, but my calves and thighs are HUGE! Anyone else have this problem?
I think it's pretty much safe to assume that everyone who's on the DDR FREAK forum is pretty much an addict.
So in a way we all win! |

I bought a Playstation 2 for the sole purpose of getting DDR, I got my PS2 on Feburay 6, 2003. and whent broke, thus waiting until Feburay 16, 2003 to buy it. I bought a dumb soft pad to start. When i got home, i played for 10 hours nonstop. Two months later, i got a metal pad from redoctane. The arrows cracked 7 months later, so i taped them back together on the top surface ( dont ask, it works and that's all i care about). Whenever i go to the local arcade, i spend $20 on tokens to get this deal that if u put in a $20 bill u get $27 in tokens. so i did that bout 4 times.... then i got MAX2 for PS2
PRICE LIST:
Metal Pad - $300
PS2 - $200
Arcade tokens- $80
MAX (PS2) - $40
MAX2 (PS2 - $40
Memory card -$08
TOTAL: $668 _________________

I'll beat you all at money prices. In ONE day at Las Vegas I spent $8 on DDR ALONE. Next day, about $13. Next, I didn't spend more than $4.
Total for 3 days: $25 |

I also check DDR Freak everyday. And all of my other bookmarked DDR sites, just to see if there's any news.
I have no idea about making a homepage because that falls under the tech category which is not my forte.
I also DDR to any tiles I see: I was just pointing out that not many people go through the trouble of printing out stepcharts and DDR while listening to the song on your homemade DDR CD.
I'm currently begging my mom for a PS2 for Christmas, just for the DDR games.
I almost CRIED when I found that Smile.dk had broken up...
People who dont know me refer to me as "the girl who likes that dancing game DDR..." (not kidding)
Whenever I start talking about a subject that one of my friends doesnt know about, they'll IMMEDIATELY ask if it's about DDR.
Scenario: I start humming an unfamiliar song. Friend: "that's a DDR song, isn't it?" (Refer to point made above.)
