This would be totally worth it if it had "Hitchin' a Ride" by Green Day, since it doesn't... I'm not so sure.... And Bemani songs could be like extra songs, y'know, buy it for the hits, keep it for the originals? (like DDR) |

Whoever said they made this game for girls sucks. I'm a girl and I was assuming it would have at least some Bemani in it. If it's a Bemani, it should have Bemani songs in it. Well, they're not getting MY money. Er, that is, that they haven't already gotten from my DDR/BM hobby. _________________

Then I guess it's a good thing they aren't trying to sell it to you. Harmonix seems to think, and rightfully so, that their game has a much better chance of being successful if it includes songs that a large number of people are going to recognize and want to sing.

Uhh yeah, no company in their right minds would try to release a karaoke game with songs that only a small, select group of people have ever heard of. This game is pretty cool.
Mappy: Yeah, no Jennifer Love Hewitt songs, which is kind of weird because of the convention thing...but oh well.
When my friends and I played the game, they said they had plans for additional mixes and things in the works if this one did well, so hopefully it does. _________________

Well it could be like DDRMAX2 USA PS2. That had many recognizable songs plus Konami originals that everyone could grow to love.
...So, I take it that means there will be no KARAOKE REVOLUTION KONAMIX? _________________

Yeah, I agree it has to be songs you recognize... Unfortunate, although I can imagine for some songs it would have limitations, as Konami's original songs (at least for DDR) are written to be shorter than what's in here. Still, I can just imagine singing along to La Senorita! But let's face it - Konami is, as far as I know, just publishing and marketing this, with Harmonix doing most of the game design. (What I've seen looks a lot like Amplitude.) I do wish we'd have You Spin Me Round somewhere... They Might Be Giants stuff, for instance, would probably be too obscure, although I'm only familiar with 19 of the 36 songs on there. (20 if that Believe is the Cher song...) (looks again) Huey Lewis and the News?! Nice!... I may consider this title after all, despite some hesitation. I did just see a preview version demo on TechTV's XPlay... looks pretty interesting. One thing that does bother me - I think I can *hear the lyrics being sung* in the music!! Isn't it supposed to be *kara*oke - no lyrics in there?
My planned suite:
A Complicated Song
Girls Just Want To Have Lunch
Like A Surgeon
Jerry Springer
Yeah, so I'm a "Weird Al" fan... who isn't, to some extent? (But how do I do it if I can *hear the lyrics being sung?!*)... _________________

There's options for stuff like that. You can also toggle mic level, BGM level, etc. |

Here's a strange question with only marginal ties to the topic: I have Cool Edit 2000 (which I understand is now owned, like everything else, by Adobe and renamed Adobe Audition), and have recorded a song I'd like to record a new vocal track for. How do I go about reducing or dropping out the vocal levels so I can do so?
Also, getting back on topic, does anyone know if Karaoke Revolution allows you to save your vocals (in memory, or on memory card) for later playback? _________________

One more update - according to GameStop, the game will ship 11/11 and cost $70 (!!!)... this is for the bundled game; if you already have a microphone (SOCOM players, I guess, although I fail to see the K-Rev and SOCOM players overlapping too much), the unbundled pack won't show up until January 04 (and will of course be considerably less, perhaps $40-50.) _________________

As far as I know, it doesn't. At least I didn't see any options for that. _________________

I like how people shun this for being original. The same people, mind you, that shunned DDR when it first came out and now play the thing religiously. I also like how people see one song they don't like and say that it's not worth their time. The same people, mind you, that play Japanese DDR mixes with about half the songlist being not to their liking. I, for one, hate a LOT of the songs on Karaoke Revolution, but you can rest assured that I'll buy it, and when it comes time to butcher those songs, I'll do it with style. (This is coming from someone who enjoys singing or at least lip-syncing along to both Silent Hill songs on Max 2 USA, of course...)
Between this, the Eye Toy, and Fire Emblem...the first couple weeks of November look both busy and expensive for me. _________________

My girlfriend is going to get this game.
Personally, the only song I like is 'Son of a Preacher Man', and that's only because I love Pulp Fiction.
For it's first version, it doesn't look too appealing, but then again, DDR 1st mix didn't have a whole lot when it began as well. I can see this getting bigger |

How do I go about reducing or dropping out the vocal levels so I can do so? | And I just happen to have an answer for that. I'm guessing Cool Edit has some sort of phase inversion feature? Most, if not all, digital audio programs do. If you don't know what I'm talking about, basically it takes all of the positve peaks and makes them negative, and all of the negative peaks and makes them positive. It has no audible effect on the sound when done to one track. Anyway, here's what you do:
Import the song into Cool Edit (or whatever else you might be using). You will have two tracks since the CD is stereo and has a left and right channel. Take one of those two tracks (doesn't matter what one) and phase invert it. Now, take both tracks and add them together to make one mono track. Your vocals (and everything else that is panned to the center) are now much quieter. Here's why:
Any instrument panned left/right will have different sonic information stored on the two tracks of the CD. Anything panned center will have identical information stored on both tracks of the CD. When you invert one track, now all of the center information is negative in one track and positive in the other. When you add the tracks back together, the positive and negative cancel each other out and leave nothing. Now, chances are the vocals won't dissapear entirely since almost all recordings use stereo reverb on the vocals that make them slightly different between the left and right, but they will be greatly reduced.
I'm assuming you don't want your bass drum and bass guitar to dissapear when you do this technique (they are also panned center), so here is how you can keep some of them in. After you phase invert one track, bring up your equalizer and cut out all of the bass freqencies below 200 khz (change the frequency as needed depending on the song) on just the track that was phase inverted. Now the bass information is no longer identical on both sides, and will not be canceled out as much. |

A little line or two about what you don't like might help others form their oppinion. As for me, I have faith in Harmonix after playing Frequency and Amplitude. They can make great games, so I'll wait and see with this one. |
