I plugged my pad into my PS2 and instantly it didn't work, I was furious, I e-mailed RO and asked if I could return it and they said yes but we had to wait for them to come pick it up then we had to wait until they recieved it to get our refund, and the worst part about it was they said that we wouldn't recieve the cost of shipping back! meaning we were out $50.00 some bucks! I have now decided to purchase a CF it should be arriving soon.. |
That was not a Red Octane Metal Pad, that was a 3rd Party Metal Pad that they were selling (They got their new metal pad this year). Those always suck. I bought one two and it died in less than a month. |

Yeah. There's a used game store (not Funcoland) that has about 10 third-party pads stacked up that customers traded in for credit. All of them have issues.

I'm sticking with my Cobalt Flux . About 10 months of play and the thing is in perfect condition. Hope things go well with these Red Octanes, the 100buck lower price would sure be nice. |

you are correct diabloslayer469, after doing some research I found that the pad I got was the first pad they released and they now have a wonderful pad (from what I hear) I'm even thinking of getting one now that I know they've changed them. |

did anybody take off the arrows on it?
or if anyone can get the thickness of the arrows, and about how much space there is between the sensors
because, if i get this i might want to mod it, and replace the arrows w/ lexan
and try to make them more depressed so they're like the arcade _________________

Just ordered a RO metal pad. This review was quite helpful in convincing my parents. But the site says they won't be back in stock for another 4-6 weeks. But i'm still pumped and i'll play on my mad-catz soft pad until it gets here. _________________

Glad it was useful.
Of note, since starting to play DDR MAX2, the pad is still holding up great. No issues yet. |

I have some pretty thick carpet and my parents dont want the pad to ruin the carpet. Does it do anything that will ruin it like push down the carpet too much? And how much does it flex on thick carpet?

It's corners can be a little sharp. What I did for my carper was got a 3/4 inch piece of wood and put some nonslick surfacing on the top of it and stapled a plastic mat with the short spine like things onto the bottom. That stops the wood from damaging the carpet and keeps it in place. It also stops the Metal pad from even possibly flexing |

Cool so you've had this pad for almost 2 months now and still no problems? Sweet.
Now could you tell me:
How many hours per week do you play?
How much do you weigh?
What difficulty do you play on? _________________

I fluctuate on hours from 10 a week to just over 20.
I weigh 145 pounds currently (thank you DDR for that 30lb drop)
I currently am playing all 9 footers, and trying to break into 10's. My closest is Sakura. I have double AA'd a couple of 8's, but not even close on 9's yet.
I can be a pretty heavy stepper, on songs with Gallups I tend to step really hard.
I play with the Pad usually on top of a piece of nonslick surfacing stuck to 3/4 inch plywood.
I play outside of my place almost as much as there. I live in the Seattle area and regularly transport the pad in my Jeep to friends houses. So it gets a lot of rough movement to.
I have never steps on the control box or anything, but I fear that if any remotely decent amount of weight hits that thing it will break. That is my only real fear.
Any other questions? |

Thanks for all the input for this time genedefect. Really helped bring some insight to the two super power pads that seem to have emerged (CF and RO). I've been tracking this post since the beginning in August to see where this new RO style pad will be going and your consistent posts have really made the difference.
I do have one question about the CF pad however for those that have played. I've never actually seen a metal pad outside the arcade but from what you all say the RO pad is pretty flush as well as the CF. My question is that do the CF pads depress at all when played on because in vids that I've downloaded it seems that way. Doesn't seem to be the case for RO pads. Thanks. _________________

Hey I got a questoin about the Red Octane metal pad.
Well you know how on the arcade metal pads, there are small strips of metal outlining each square, so that you absoloutley know that your foot is on the button, or its on the metal. Does the Red Octane pad have this? Or something similar? I have a soft pad right now, and its really annoying, on the faster songs I always seem to lose my footing. Like my right or left foot will be on the plastic just below the arrow, but the whole thing is plastic so I dont really notice I am losing my footing, until I see "Boo", then I look and notice.
But going to far forward is never the problem, just back. |

Although Red Octane has their new pad as "Out of Stock", I was still able to place an order for it last night (Oct 15), so hopefully I won't have to wait...
I'm hoping for good things from it _________________

i've had my RO pad just over 2 months.
I can own every song on every difficulty..
And i do it on the RO pad.
Whenever i get mad, I just like to stomp MEGA hard on the pad.. sometimes with shoes, and sometimes just in my bare feet or socks..
I've nnever had ANY problems with my control box. It's been plugged in the my RO for 2 months, and not once unplugged.
It still responds like the day I got it, which I thikn is really cool..
Although, One time, the down arrow did start going crazy, and double stepping, but I just cleaned the contacts, and then it worked great after that! But I don't think this is a RO pad issue.. it's just like.. normal wear and tear of any pad.. Because affter 2 months of my friends RO pad, we started getting ghost steps, so we had to clean all his arrows..
so anyways..
After 2 months Im totally satisfied wiht the RO pad, and glad i didn't go for the CF _________________

WrathX, any chance of a new control box for DDR Ultramix? I don't want a cheesy converter. _________________

i've VERY interested in ordering RO metal pad. I've read through the thread and I've only heard good things...no I know shipping was slow in the states. If that's the truth then it's going to be hella slow to canada. Has any Canadian members ordered pads form them??? if so who was the shipping...??? _________________
