Okay, so I have this friend who plays DDR. But for the past couple months, she's been feeling very sick when we go to the mall. At first I thought it was what she was eating that made her sick, but on several occasions she ate something from the food court and was perfectly fine. Then later she played DDR and got very very sick, throwing up and all, was sick for the rest of the weekend. E2.gif Then next weekend, when we got to the arcade she played DDR 15 minutes after we got there, then she just got horribly sick again. Then she felt better, next day she plays DDR and again her stomach just started aching so badly and she just had to go home. So basically, i'm wondering if anyone knows why this is happening to her and can give advice on how to stop it. (It can't be from exercise either because she does fine in P.E. and with running long distances etc.)

The only thing I could think of is eating before playing, but I don't think she's eating everytime before she's played has she?

Sounds like she might not be drinking enought liquids when she plays.

I always feel kinda gagy when i play max 300 and havent had a drink for a while.

Or she might just be a little hungery, i usually get stomach cramps and pains when i dont eat enough

Maybe that'll help biggrin.gif nerd.gif

That's what I was going to suggest, since you said that it wasn't the exertion. That's really bizarre, though. I can't think of much of anything that would cause that kind of sickness with such regularity. I guess there's always the chance that it's psychosomatic -- maybe she got really violently sick playing DDR once, and now it triggers a response. Very unlikely, but uh... I have no idea what the real cause could be. That sucks, though. E2.gif

Maybe she's allergic to the machine or something. blink.gif

Wow, that's uncommon. Okay, here's some suggestions.

1. Have her drink plenty of water 1 hour before you start playing. I'm talking like 20 oz, maybe more, maybe a propel, all-sport, whatever. After an hour, play, and see if she gets sick. If she doesn't, problem solved, she needs to drink more water. If she does, she either (A) Drank too much water, (B) is overstuffed with food, (C) very hungry, or (D) psychosomatic.

Suggestion #2

Don't play DDR anymore.

Suggestion #3

Suck it up and deal with being sick. (Don't really do that)

Possibility. "Motion sickness". I get sick from watching SOME racing games and FPS games. There's a possibility that the framerate of the scrolling arrows is slightly disorienting and causes sickness.

I never seem to get dizzy looking at the arrows and the crazy backgrounds.

Neither do I, but I got dizzy from focusing too much on FPS games like Timsplitters and sometimes Unreal Tournament. I'm just saying it's a POSSIBILITY.

I know a few people who got queasy playing Metroid Prime in particular: it was due in large part to the way the GUI/HUD bobs around when you move. That, and maybe they sat too close to the screen. E15.gif It was never to the level that they puked or anything, though.

The worst disorientation or anything I've ever experienced playing DDR is when everything looks like it's scrolling subtly downward after a long time of watching the arrows zoom up. I guess for some people the motion could be dizzying enough to make them sick, but... I dunno.

Me and a friend nearly played ourselves to the point of puking on Friday, but that was just 'cause there wasn't a line at the machine. So playing nonstop for about six rounds... goog.gif ...

im gonna go with the liquids thing.
we just learned in my science class that if you're missing 7% of the water in your body, you get thirsty, your joints ache, and you get really nauseous. it could be that
also, it could be that she doesn't have enough or had too much sugar. that happens to me a lot. i start shaking a lot and i have to get something to eat right away.

The best of luck to your friend. E1.gif
