Hey, i'm planning on buying 2 Ultra-NX dance pads, and i have a few questions. Do these work well un-modded (I play on carpet)? Can I wear shoes and play on this pad? And if I need to mod it, would I get by with duct taping it to some plywood? Thanks in advance E4.gif

I'm going to bump this because I have the EXACT same questions, minus playing with shoes on (I prefer just socks!)

An advance "thank you" to anyone who can help us!!!

Unlike some of the posters here, I've had good experiences with BNS's service and pads.

When I first got DDR, I bought the BNS Ultra-NX pads. I was a big n00b then so the pads were great. I thought the raised arrows were a huge step up from the basic soft pad that I'd played on at friends' houses. (and they really are). So for a few months they were GREAT.

BUT, (there's always a but) once I stepped up to Heavy, I was forced to tape the pads to the floor. This worked quite well for a long time, until on of the pads' right arrow broke.

Final verdict: The Ultra-NX pads are great for light-standard play.

I've just recently shelled out $90 for 2 Ultra-DX pads. These are the ones with the 1 inch foam inserts. I must say they are the best you can get for the cheap price.

So, I would recommend shelling out a few extra green-backs for the DXs.

I typed this and reread the first post and realized I didn't answer the questions so here goes:

1. unmodded works for light-standard play (I play on carpet, as well)
2. shoes will tear it up if it is not modded
3. hmm, I don't have experience modding, but I think the best would be to use packaging tape (clear) and plywood. That way, the whole surface of the pad would be protected and you'd still be able to see the arrows.

Hope I helped... If you have any more questions, IM me on AIM: FreQ04

Thank you so much! My sister and I are REALLY new to playing (like, only been playing for a little over a week-and it's been playing at a friend's) so we're playing light, and probably will be for a least another month or two, so I'm not going to worry about killing the pads by playing on heavy! My friend has the basic soft pads, and they work great other than sliding just a little on the carpet, so my goal was to buy pads similar to hers.

Thanks again!

My DX is not modded at all, and I can pass Maxx Unlimited everytime with it. (not in the arcade yet, though... it will come)
