Will IIdx boot with an action replay disk? it says it enables the playing of import DVDs but I am still a little wary, Has anyone done this? _________________

I've been reading and some sites say that Swap Magic requires the use of a non-solder mod like a flip top case or slide card, and some sites say it does not. Has anyone used swap magic with iidx or any game? _________________

I use Swap Magic with all of my PS2 imports, including IIDX, and yes, a mod similar to a flip top (like I have) or a slide card (which I wouldn't recommend, as you're basically ripping the drive door open), is needed to use them. |

Yeah, Swap Magic works just fine.
But in escence, you DON'T NEED a Flip-top, Neokey, or Slide Card mod.
All you REALLY have to do is just open your PS2 and put the CD in manually each time.
Of course, this can get very annoying to open up your PS2 each time you wanna play IIDX, but if you don't yet have the 20 bucks for a Slide Card, Flip-top, or Neokey, you can do this until you get the cash.
I recommend a Slide Card.
The Slide Card doesn't void the PS2's warranty. You never have to open up the PS2.
And really folks, that "*gasp* OHHH NOO!! IT'LL RECK YOUR PS2 CD MOTORS" theory isn't what it's cracked up to be.
It would take THOUSANDS upon thousands of opens and closes to do any sort of damage to the motor. It's just a simple DC motor. Forcing it to turn does practically nothing but turn magnets without the use of electricity.
And some sites charge less than 10 dollars for a SC, so it's pocket change. And it SHOULD be. It's a very small thing made out of cheap plastic. It's not even worth 20 cents of plastic. But it's still the best way to use the Swap Magic discs. _________________

I've been looking around and I think I'm going to get the flip top with Swap Magic 2.0.. i dunno, I'm afraid I would screw it up wiith a slide card. I was reading the instructions and it said "CAREFULLY" this and "SOFTLY" that. I scare myself :o more opinions welcome. thanks for the info andy and DL _________________

That carefully and softly stuff are NO BRAINERS with any mod installation. Flip-top, neokey, and any others. Hell, my record right now for a slide card swap is under 10 seconds. That means I do it fast, not being careful and absolutely NOT so softly.
The slide card is just the best value, and the fact that it doesn't void your warranty is pretty damn nice, too.
But I have to say, my Ivory-colored Flip-top (yeah, I use both methods) looks pretty damn sweet. If there's one thing the Flip-top is good for, it's making the PS2 look so damn cool! _________________

Does the white actually look good? I saw that on a site and wasn't sure if it'd look good or not _________________

Well judge for yourself. Those pics pretty much give a good view of how it will look. I think it's a sweet looking break from the normal black PS2 which was getting boring anyways.... _________________
