I noticed whenever I play DDR at the arcade, I get really shy to actually get up on the stage and play. Mainly because of my not-so-l33t moves. What's a good way to raise my confidence so I wont feel so shy? I know this is a stupid topic, but my shyness is driving me crazy. |

i was the same way. i found (except a few exceptions) that most good players at the ddr machine will usually help u out if they see something you can fix. people who have played ddr for a while like to see other people get into the game.
more people in the game = they keep making stuff for it _________________

man, jus play and have fun, who cares what others think, in the end you'll end up making friends, if you're worried about your moves, or the "l337s" making fun of you then, jus play at home and only at home, remember, have fun, thats all that matters. |

yeah you shouldn't care what others think. i could care less. you shouldn't be so self-conscious. i know if someone needs some help, i'll tell them what they're doing wrong and what they need to do to fix their problem...of course that's tech only. i would like to start freestyling..where's the 'ddr freestyling for dummies' book when you need one... _________________

Just have fun. Practice on your home system a lot. If you still don't like having people watch you, just dance and never look behind you untill you are done. Usually most of the people that are watching you can't do it. _________________

hM.. this is what i did when i went to the arcade for the first time... Since I was the only girl that actually played the game... and they had 3rd plus mix at the time ... I just kinda let all the 'good' players go first... then when i had a chance... I just went up with my sister... OH but i bet you probably play by youself... that's not a problem.. just go up anyway... and play... and if you stay there long enough the DDR players will soon ask you what's your name and everything... then you'll have some new friends made Don't be so shy about playing... People by the DDR machine won't cut your head off so don't worry _________________

It's common for a lot of people (like me ) to feel shy when doing anything that involves performing in front of an audience. My solution is really simple: just forget about the crowd. From the moment I step on the stage and drop my tokens into the coin slot, my mind focuses completely on the game, and I don't look behind me until my set is over. So what if I'm just a Light player who still has trouble with some 4-footers? (Broken My Heart and Captain Jack own me )
Just relax, get on the stage, pick the songs you want to play, and have fun. That's what videogames are for, right? Oh, and if someone offers to play with you, don't turn them down, especially if they're expert players. Usually they'll help you pass some of the harder songs and/or give you some advice. _________________

Just be careful if those expert players have egos, because chances are they're going to try to push you in a rude manner and will get at you if you don't entertain them. Just don't let them anywhere near the buttons, I almost gave up DDR when an ego player forced me to try Angelic Mix Standard when I was finally able to pass light when playing with him. But those without egos are usually supportive and won't mind what songs you pick at what difficulty. |

Yeah, I know I was really shy, when I started nearly 3 years ago. Hell, I didnt even play at the arcade until I could do Standard 5 and 6's on my home pad But, Now that I know everybody, I realized no one would have cared. _________________

Just think, alot of those ppl in the crowd are too shy to go up, you should fell proud to go up and even if your not good have fun, the stand there laughing at you, but I bet if you offerd them money they wouldnt go up, and if they did, they wouldnt be able to pass a 2 footer. And if they are l33t3rs, like everyones said, they started somewhere, they should look down and say "hey one day I was there, I think ill help this a guy a bit" not look at you and laugh, just think theres alot out there that your better at then them, ignor them and improve. |

When I started out, I only played one game on a machine for awhile...I was embarrassed at myself because I could only do light. So when I finally started playing serious in the arcade pm standard, the "veteran" players (who are now my friends by the way) told me Kakumei is the easiest 9 ft song on MAX2, and I embarrassed myself then. But the fact of the matter is, I own those players now. So like I said before, it's not worth being self-conscious and worrying if you'll look good or not. _________________

easiest way out: play when nobody is there. Opening hours, closing hours, weekdays are all good times where people usually don't go to arcades. _________________

that's how i was, too. i'd hide my shyness by just goofing around, until i just was fed up of doing that, so i tried, and now i'm probably one of the best at my arcade.
most DDR'ers will help the newer players at the game. take earlier tonight for example. i went with my friend. he can barely do 4 footers. after an hour of watching me play heavy 8's and 9's, he didn't want to try it. he was too discouraged. and so was everyone else in the arcade. i begged and begged him to go up and play. finally, he did, and i played next to him to keep him alive just in case he died. i told him to forget about everyone around us, and to just focus on pressing the right steps at the right time, and eventually, he did good, and wanted to play more. _________________
