I don't know how hard you slam your buttons but I know that when I play I make a good amount of noise and it still works fine!

for anyone who cares.. i'd just like to know what kind of 'hi-speed' multipliers different people use, and with what kind of bpm ranges.
for example, i use hi-speedx4 up to like 170bpm, and hi-speedx3 up to around 200bpm. only freaky songs like 'tochou mae made onegaishimasu' (miracle) and 'theme of pop'n land' (pavilion) get no hi-speed and hi-speedx2 respectively. of course the
feel free to post your own hi-speed usages, and of course i'd like to know if there's anyone who doesn't use them at all. |

I usually play on HS4 except for some of the faster stuff where i switch down to HS3.
Oh has anybody tried Love Love Sugar on hyper? I tried that for the first time not too long ago and boy i wasn't expecting it to be that hard. Especially considering how "easy" the song sounds. _________________

This one guy at Otakon 2k3 had and ASC and it broke the second day he had it there. I guess because too many ppl were slaming the hell out of it. Is it really worth paying $400.00 for that when it had broke so easily? I played on the ASC controller about four times when I was there and all I have to say is goddamn!! It's much harder to play on an ASC than the small home controller. I want to buy one but im still thinking about it. _________________

Regarding pop'n Live 2 DVD... September 1st passed. Looks like they got the amount of preorders they needed - there WILL be a reprint. If you still want one, you'll need to get an order in soon! _________________

The guy who owns that controller is a friend of mine, and it didn't break. He thought it did, but somehow when he got back to chicago it was working again. The only problem I've had with my asc is the wires coming loose because they aren't soldered to the connectors, easy fix though, just get some high grade solder and do it yourself and alls good. _________________

on some rare occasions, when i'm in the middle of playing a song, it will quit as if i pressed the start button. out of nowhere. it always happens right when i hit a regular button, and i'm like, wtf? my finger was nowhere near the start button... it happens very rarely, and i don't know if maybe i'm just jarring the controller so hard that it sets off the start button, or what. i wonder if anyone else has experienced this.
btw, this is happening on an ASC. don't know about pop'n controller - have never played on one. |

does anyone have any left and right norma reccomendations for challenge mode to get cheap points? i'm trying to unlock the last movie, which needs 149 points, but i'm too lazy to spend my own time coming up with a cheap way to do it, and well... i can't really beat any songs over lv. 35. so if anyone has any reccomendations, please offer them.
btw, please feel free to call me unskilled, a newbie, or any other such name. pm8 is my first pm game (unless you count a week of pm2 used to bridge the gap between june's asc shipment and the release of pm8), and i don't know if i'm still considered a newbie at this point... neway
p.s. aren't some of the movies totally worthless? some guy yells something, then it's over, w/ no music at all. i guess they want people to get the concert DVDs... |

If you're only after movies, you don't need to get the points that high. I got all the movies out by hitting 63 (I think - it's been a while) over and over again.
There was a combination of mods we used to get high points - but I have no idea how to describe them as I memorized their positions only ^^; Try experimenting with each of them in free training (select "Ojama" in settings) to see what combination works best for you. _________________

I have never played Pop N Music before but am interested in the game. Before I go out and spend $70+ on a controller, I was thinking about just getting a cheap used Playstation version of the game and seing how I liked it. Is using a Dual Shock to play the game possible (I know you are able to but I mean, can you actually clear songs or is it too confusing?) and more importantly, is it any fun to use the controller or am I wasting my time unless I get the controller right away as well? I just am not sure about spending around $100 or more for a controller and game I have never played before. |

I would advise you to just bite the bullet and buy a controller. The good thing about trying Bemani is that if you don't like it, you can usually resell it for pretty much the same amount you paid for it. My other piece of advice is NOT to start with Pop'n Music 1. It's got a total of, oh, 12 songs on it? |

Thanks for the advice, I guess I'll consider getting the controller then. I have to start with a PSX version since I only have an umodded US PS2 so thanks for letting me know not to bother with the first game. |

Don't bother with the first 5. If you can only get psx mixes then just get Pop'n Music 6, it's the best one for playstation IMO.

Is Pop N' at home fun with the smaller sized controller, or should I just drop that and save up for a ASC? Pop N' looks like a great game, but I am unsure if I want to make a "career" over it, so I'm just asking. Last thing I want to do is pay over $250 for a controller for a game I probably wont play often. _________________

I just got mine and I love it...I'm using it to play PNM 8 and I can't stop playing. the controller is good. It's bigger then you think (well I was expecting smaller because that's all I had heard about it).
It does the job just fine...I'll be using it till I get a ASC... _________________

Same here. I wouldn't say it's inferior, just different. It does throw off the difficulty scale a bit (I can pass a few 34's but I fail almost every song in the 30-33 range) |

The small controller makes it more like playing IIDX than Pop'n but it's fun either way. I kind of actually wish I hadn't gotten rid of my small controller when I got my ASC. _________________
