OK, as you all may have noticed from previous posts, I LOVE Random All.

Well, I just got back from playing about 3 hours of nothing but Random All and I must say that my Cleared Cata list JUMPED today. Now, bear note that every single one of the following 9 footers I cleared IN MY FIRST TRY!

Captain Jack
Broken My Heart
Luv to me (Disco Mix)
Can't Stop Falling in Love (Speedy Mix)
Cartoon Heroes (Well, I actually tried this one beofre)
Trip Machine Survivor
Orion.78 Civilization Mix (I was like...O_o')
Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) (FIRST TRY!!! O_0 again!)
Exotic Ethnic
Dead End

And I cleared another 10 footer during this random all Rampage, "Sakura"

...I BEAT SAKURA IN MY FIRST TRY!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------
I never brought myself to attempt any of those songs before. However, how in the world did I clear them in my first attempts.

Well, All of those songs on that list I've WATCHED many good players play several times before. During the songs I was like "Oh, yeah, now this part and that part...etc..." Especially in Civ Mix... gallopgallopgallopgallopgallop. I would have never known those were gallops if I hadn't watched this one dude play that song many times in the past.

I'm making this post to ask a question though. How many of you out there can relate to this? You see so many people do a certain song that you just go up and beat it in 1 or 2 tries...If so, what songs?

Let's discuss!!!!

you'd probably get more replies in the Arcade forum. E1.gif

Why would he get more responses in the arcade forum? He's asking about people being able to pass songs on their first try because they've seen people do it.

Anyway, I feel the same way about this. Once I've seen someone play a song it's generally easier for me to do it because I listen to the beat of their feet hitting the pad instead of listening to the music, and that plays in my mind. Once you have the rhythem down you can concentrate on getting perfects (which make it easier to keep your bar up, and in the game) and putting your feet in the right place.

This is why I don't recommend watching people who fail their way through the Max songs because they are usually off beat big time, though they can get enough combo steps and goods to stay in the game.

It's especially important to pay attention in the trickier songs with off beat notes.

Also, playing songs in dwi helps to learn the beat patterns.

However, it's not good to totally rely on sorta memorizing the beat, because it might start to kill your sight reading skills.

As for why you were able to clear them on your first attempt... you're better then you think, I guess. E1.gif

I used to think a lot of players could clear catas on their first try. I saw a guy I admired and watched select Xenon (on heavy) with his friend, they both failed. I heard him say that it was his first time playing that song. That's understandable, but I didn't expect that coming from him.

Anyway, here's my list of songs I cleared on my first try without playing it on StepMania prior:
Be Lovin
Break Down!
Dance Dance Revolution
Dynamite Rave
Irresistiblement
Leading Cyber
Luv To Me (Disco Mix)
Rain of Sorrow
Saint Goes Marching (Remix)
Ska A Go Go
Sweet Sweet Love Magic
Twilight Zone (R-C Extended Club Mix)
Xenon

Songs I cleared on my first try with using StepMania prior (with my fingers):
A (Oni)
Captain Jack (Grandale Remix)
Colors (Oni)
Burning Heat! (3 Option Mix)
Destiny Lovers
Drop Out
Frozen Ray (For Extreme)
I Feel...
Kakumei
*Sakura (I know it's not a cata E15.gif )
Stoic
Tears
Tsugaru

Songs I Cleared on my third try with lots of help from StepMania:
*Bag (1x) (Also not a cata E15.gif )
Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix) (2nd or 3rd try, can't remember)
So Deep (Perfect Sphere Remix)

When I was just moving on to passing catas at home I barely went to the arcade so I couldn't play all the songs I listed. This means I didn't play these songs until (I feel) I had greatly improved at DDR. I made a goal to pass every cata at the arcade so I tried to followthrough with it, which is why I have a list like this.

Watching people better then you (or people who are better then you at a certain skill, like crossovers) helps a ton. Stepmania also can help for "watching"...For example, i haven't played 4th mix in ages, and i did last night, and on sightreads i sdged two songs, because i had whored them like a lady in amsterdam's red light district, and i'd seen someone else play them earlier....

My first cata I beat without playing it before was Electro tuned. But playing with more skilled people does help like when I first started I would double step everything. Then ZGUY and JJakaJuan showed me crossovers then gallops. So playing with better people is better for you.
