I fail to see what this has to do with DDR.

Ah the eternal question that has been posed 1000 times...actually more like 3571 (which is a very nice, prime number). Well I was at a friend's house and noticed two odd looking pads with arrows on them. When I asked what they were for, he pulled out Konamix and showed me. I played for the next 2 hours. Now I can't stop playing. It's pretty hard typing this message in fact, what with all of the bouncing and...fine, I'm not really playing. Stop laughing at me! ::cries and runs away::

i had heard of it and thought it sounded goofy but interesting... then one day i saw some guys playing in the lobby of my dorm on a PS2 with home pads, and i watched them for awhile... and they asked if i wanted to try, so i gave it a shot. i thought it was kind of fun but nothing i'd ever get serious about... then i came home and found out that some of my friends had started playing, so i tagged along with them and tried it at the arcade... and now i'm completely addicted, currently going through withdrawl, and planning to start driving the 50-something miles down to Hickory every few days to get my fix. riiight.gif

I went on holiday to meet a bunch of online people (unrelated to DDR) over the end of July/start of Aug. Anyway one of em who's a proper DDR nut took me to an arcade and played for a bit, then I think I decided to have a go. Or maybe he made me play, I don't remember E13.gif Anyway he pointed out a bunch of songs for me to try and quickly corrected all the common faults, I was making pretty fast progress. By the end of the trip two weeks later I'd just passed Dam Dariram on Standard; my first six-foot.

Unfortunately over here DDR is very expensive (1 pound, ie $1.50 per game). Had I carried on at the rate I was going during that holiday I'd be on Catas by now. As it stands I'm just breaking into 8 foots (Defeated: Love Shine, B4U and Still In My Heart Momo so far)

I had a best friend who spent the summer in Japan. He came back with 3rd mix. I couldn't pass light songs for life of me. I bought the first USA mix, then the friend gave me a burned copy of 3rd and 4th mix. I spent a full year playing on light. Then I accidentally put Kick the Can on heavy and realized "Hey, I can do that!" Of cousre, this was after getting the "turn your body this way" lesson. 2 years later I pass my first 10 footer, BaG.

i read about it in a game magazine when it first came out so i always knew what it was , just never knew how to play it or seen an actual machine. i went to the arcade i hang out at and seen people playing the one of the 3rd mix machines and my thought in my mind was "HOLY SH*T WHAT GAME IS THAT?" so i put a coin up (yes i knew the coin line b4 ddr) and i went up on my own. 2 seconds into "rock beat" i think and..... FAILED. after that day i immediatley bought the home version (konamix just came out) and now have been playing for a year and 1 month now.

well, while on vacation, I was in an arcade in florida and I saw a machine similar to DDR. it looked quite interesting, but I didn't want to try it because I was way self-concious. but every time I walked by it it seemed to call to me "play me.....play me.....play me..." so I did. of course as a complete noob I failed the first time, but I wasn't phased at all and I wanted to try even more. a couple days later we went to another arcade (XS Orlando) that had two DDR machines and since we had a few hours, I decided to play on them. I was officially hooked that day.
next time I go to florida (sometime next year) I'll be sure to go back to that arcade.

My "Friend" got me into DDR, but that was when they had Max2, no beginners, just light, but I didn't like playing infront of crowds, it took me like 6 months to get over them and get better. So in other words took me a year and 2 months to get where I am today.

Aww...I love telling this story. In the summer of 2000, when I was eleven, my family and I were vacationing in Toronto, and one of our stops was Playdium. It was the first time I'd ever been to a Playdium, and God, was I ever in my element. I was wandering around the main floor, and I came to the simulation games section. And that's when I saw this guy - I figured he was about thirteen or fourteen - who was dancing on a platform (it was 3rd Mix). I stayed a distance away from him, but back then my eyes were still good and I could see that he was following the arrows on the screen. It intrigued me, and I just stood there, watching him finish the song. When he did, he noticed me there and asked if I "played". I shook my head, and he let me come up on the platform with him. He didn't explain the game very much to me, because it seemed that he thought I'd be good at it. He chose the song "Butterfly", and I was doing so bad it would probably be funny to me today. I ended with a D. But this guy had real faith in me. And that's when I "started".

I never got his name, and I never saw him again after that. It's unlikely that I ever will. But it was a totally cool experience for me.

To tell u the truth im not sure how I offically got into DDR. But when I first knew what the heck it was when I was at a friends house and two of them were playing DDR (i forget which version E19.gif) not with the crappy pad thingies but with the controls in the living room. I was watching them play and I guess I was drawn to it somw how since I didn't really play videos games as much and when I did play I played fighting games riiight.gif. But when I got a chance to play it I played it at the arcade at six flags. Since then I think whoever came up with DDR is a freakin genius!!!!!!!!! nerd.gif
