E19.gif I 've narrowed it down to hitting the arrows to soft and the space of leg movement like soft pads its a circle in the middle and arcade its a square and the arrows are more closer together im sorry its just i am really getting good on the soft pads but metal which ive only been on like 6 times completely suck i need answers please are you guys the same way or the opposite?

Almost everyone who has used soft pads stink on the hard pads at first. Honestly, you just have to play more at the arcade, though I'm sure ppl will try to provide an explaination.

Eventually you'll get better on the metal pad and worse on the soft pad most likely.

It's the exact opposite with me. I can do good in arcades, but at home with the soft pad and Konamix I'm renting, I can't even do a 6 footer. I like die on Paranoia Basic! XD

But concerning Jay, it's just weird transitioning. You'll get used to it. Could also be that you're in front of a crowd now. Don't wanna fall off and look too n00bish...

It could be one of many reasons
1. You are not used to picking up your legs as much because its alot easier to slide in socks on a soft material

2. You are not used to the added weight from shoes.

3. Some soft pads have a wider sensor area.

4. The metal pads at your arcade/home suck.

trust me, my first arcade experience was terrible. i had been playing ddr max at home on my ps2 for about 2 months now, and its much MUCH easier to slide and tap the buttons more so than to push them.

but my second time on a ddr machine was much easier...mainly because my soft pad (naoki foam pad) is totally worn out and i cant even do songs like am-p3 on heavy or healing vision.

so it really encouraged me to press down harder and make it look like im stepping and not sliding all the time.

also does anyone know if its worth it to buy a metal pad? they are like 200 bucks at my frys electronics. anyone know how long they last for a player on Heavy and progressing Oni? are they reliable? etc, etc. is ebay reliable?

Well, for me its because the arrows don't always seem to register, the pad slips, and if you play a lot on your soft pad, you wear it out and the arrow inserts so they won't always be in the exact arrow spot they should be, that always happens to me, I have to shake my pad around sometimes! riiight.gif

instead of spendign $200 on a metal pad thats built for you. Build your own for half that, and have $100 to buy something else. I just built my own metal pad and I LOVE it, well worth my time and money.

To the posters question, you do better on soft pads because they are HELLA more sensitive and have wider sensor areas.

When I started playing on a machine it was the weight of my shoes (I have heavy Vans with thick bottoms) that felt awkward when making fast movements as sopposed to the smooth movement of shoeless legs/feet.

Ok. Since you haven't narrowed the problem down enough (like how you failed, or did you fall, etc.), I can't provide you with more detailed explanations, but maybe it's because the arcade metal pads' arrows needed to be pressed harder than the soft pads at home, or you are used to slide but you can't do that at the arcade, so instead of stepping the correct arrow you have your foot (feet) jammed/stuck in the same arrow.

WOOPS! I just realized that this post was how you do worse on metal pads than on soft pads, I was thinking vise a versa. Wow, I'm retarded! My BAD! E15.gif E4.gif

You beat me to it, this was going to be my possible explanation. This is what caused the most problems for me when making the switch of playing at home to the arcade. At the arcade I would end up hitting metal instead of the arrows. To correct this I started hitting arrows with my toes rather than my sole.

Common sense for dummies: Stepping on your toes takes less room than stepping on your sole. Therefore stepping on your toes gives you a large area to hit the arrow whereas stepping with your sole you probably have to allow space for your whole foot to contact the arrow. Since you may not always be able to fit your whole foot on an arrow while playing we know this can cause a problem.

When I thought of this solution I began performing better at the arcade.

This is another problem I've encountered. Although, for me it only causes trouble on fast, heavy, arrow-dense songs; it doesn't happen too often. Because it seems you don't have much experience at the arcade common sense would tell us you don't go there on your first day and play fast, heavy, arrow-dense songs. But of course, I could be underestimating you and you could be experiencing problems I haven't had.

Good luck at the arcade thumb.gif

For me, a soft pad is much easier...like said before, it's easier for your feet to slide on the soft pad...with socks of course...and I also sacrificed a bit of money to buy an ignition pad...they are some very wonderful things....I've had it for a few months now and it hasn't quit on me yet.

For me, the first time I went to the arcade was a horrible experience...I didn't have enough energy for most songs I could easily do...Now I have to build up my leg strength just to play in a damn arcade.

i always thought that hard pad was easyer beacause u can see shere the steps are just like the arcade because the sensors get moved aroung in the home pads mine did i went through one a week.
