Hey, if it gets more people to play, then it's ok by me.

im telling you...these little irritating kids are gonna be jerks about it. theyre gonna think they own the machine, have no respect for anyone, theyre gonna act like they own it and they have some sort of divine right on an effing video game.

if im wrong, which i very well could be, then let em all play. whatever

but if im right, then im gonna bust on em right back and twice as bad

yes, everyone likes it when you do a hard song and there's a crowd that claps for you and cheers you on. that's cool. but more likely than not, most people in the crowd are DDRers. i hate it when people just sit there watching your feet move fast and laughing their head off. atleast if everyone knows about DDR, than no one will do that anymore. but yea i sorta agree that newbs can get kinda annoying. but i taught my 2 friends how to play, and they can do 6's and 7's now. so i guess it won't be that annoying, unless their stomping in hard shoes and damaging the machine.
that's really annoying.

Ok, so am I the only person who plays ddr and doesnt care what the hell anyone else thinks? As long as someone doesnt come up to me and act like a total jerk, booing me after every arrow, then I dont care what other people's opinions are of me (although I do enjoy a good applause if people are watching E1.gif ) So go ahead and laugh at me after I finish a song. I'm still going to keep on playing.

What will happen is that soon everyone will be playing it, then the popular people will stop playing it, then all the people who followed them before will stop playing, and then just the people who played it before will keep playing and the other people will be like "OMG like DDR is like sooooooooooo last week."

Yah lets flame the writers of Seventeen, or wait, how about we don't disturb.gif

Time to try to make a halfway intelligible post on this topic.

I don't know, I think a lot of you need a mental check. Lets run this equasion through our heads shall we?

Point #:

1) The more people that play ddr the better! How can getting the word out about a cool game be bad. Don't forget, we as serious players make up only for about 1/2 of the ddr population, a ton of people just play light and some standard for fun every now and then, not really as a hobbie like most of us do. My point is, remember DDR wasn't made just for you, let others enjoy it.

2) The more people that play DDR, the more money distributers make. The more money distributers make, the more DDR machines appear, hence the more machines there are for US to choose from. The more money distributers make, the more money Konami makes. The more money Konami makes, the more DDR mixes we see come out. A bigger player base can never be bad.

3) The more people that play DDR, the more that get serious about DDR. Just because someone reads Seventeen magazine means they can't be serious about DDR? Umm, sorry but no. The more serious people there are about DDR, the more fun people who are serious about COMPETETION at DDR tournaments will have as well.

4) The more FEMALES that play DDR, the better. Lets face it, the target audience of Seventeen magazine is teen females. Lets face this as well, as many female DDR players as there are, there is a disproportionate number of male players. Diversity cannot hurt.

5) In what way is Seventeen simplifying DDR. THEY ARE PROMOTING IT! Maybe I'm a bit delusional but last time I checked all that DDR is, is a game where an arrow scrolls up the screen, and when it intersects with the other arrow you hit it! How much more simple can a game get really. Anyone critisizing the way DDR was represented in the magazine has no concept of what DDR is I think, it would seem to me you all should remember that you once probably thought that DDR was a silly game where people jumped around and acted stupid. Remember, DDR is really a simple game, and can be enjoyed by everyone, I know that comparing it to Brittani Spears is a bit of a stretch, but common people its Seventeen magazine!

6) Whats wrong with getting people to try to excersize. Honest to god DDR is halfway decent excersize compared to what the average non-athlete gets. To say that DDR is not excersize or physical exertion is just wrong. It most certainly is. Whats wrong with this magazine trying to help some girls that read Seventeen magazine get in shape, especially with an alternative to running or sports that they might actually enjoy!

7) A big thumbs up gos to Seventeen! Not only did they supply a link to a site, they gave them a link to a good DDR resource, THIS SITE!!!!!, where these girls can actually find out where and how to play DDR.

In closing, I think that this is great, whether your opinion of Seventeen magazine is high or not. Honestly, and this is just my OPINION, but my OPINION is that if you feel that DDR was belitteled at all by this article, you are either selfish in the fact that you don't want so called N00bs to play on YOUR DDR machine because they might somehow contaminate us ELITE HAX0RS that play 10 footers like its our job, or you are being blinded by the fact that maybe you though DDR was more than a game where you hit arrows :-P. I think that this article is great, and would applaud more magazines and TV shows to run segments about DDR.

Just one more thing to think about, don't you feel angered when people trivialize DDR. You put in your hard work weekly somtimes DAILY to be good at this game. It is important to you. Don't you think its better that more people try the game out and learn what gos into a good freestyle routine or PAing a song? This is how thats going to happen.

I applaud Seventeen magazine. That is all, of course this is all just my OPINION, you of course are allowed to disagree.

I gotta agree w/ Dark Horse. Therez nothin wrong w/ more people playin da game. Almost everyone knowz of DDR now. They may not kno that itz called Dance Dance Revolution, but they kno it az the game w/ the arrowz that u try to step on.

Stereotypically speakin, most people that play DDR r either: Azn, punks/anti-prepz, and gaming peepz. So whatz wrong if preppy people play? Itz only a game!!! Besidez, I like preppy gurlz...

But anywayz, more publicity for DDR = GOOD THING!!!

But here in St. Louis, MO at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, adults are just amazed at us when we play DDR.

I completely agree. Just because a magazine promotes something in a different way than we'd like doesn't mean that they're not promoting it. And anyway, if seventeen promotes DDR then girls may actually go out with me ("Wow you play DDR, that is soooo cool, sure I'll go out with you). E7.gif laugh.gif E4.gif

We had this one kid in my school that was considered the strange loner because he played DDR, though he was creepily addicted to it, like he would fantisize about the characters, and thusly DDR got a bad rap in my school.

LOL!! laugh.gif Right on. I was talking to my mom the other day and she said "I think you look thinner now that you did in college..." And I thought to myself "Yeah, that's because, now, my idea of unwinding after a tough day is to play 2 hours of DDR..." E4.gif It *is* a workout- even on Standard.
YAY to DDR for halping the 'freshman 15' go buh-bye.

Anyway, I agree w/everyone who posted about the comments in this thread. Since when did DDR become so "elitist?" I mean, just because I can't FC Paranoia Survivor Max on stealth shuffle with my hands tied behind my back doesn't mean that I can't have fun doing it. Yeah, I look stupid and I don't FC everything I play. But I'm not going to stop. You want to stand there on the sidelines and laugh, go ahead. More time on the machine for me. E15.gif

I was at a tournament about a month or 2 ago, and I overheard a lot of "elitist" talk. Like "why is it the people who can only play on Light that always dress up as DDR characters?" (there were a few cosplayers there... they looked really good too.) At the time I was messing around playing, like, a 6 or 7 footer or something relatively easy like that. And I thought to myself "where is it written that someone has to be crazy good to play this game? I suck, and it's just as fun for me. Weren't we all newbies at one time??" I may never be a cata-level God, but I'm not going to stop playing b/c of it.

What is the harm that can come out of this? Some little teenyboppers get curious and try it. Then the fad fades when next month's "Seventeen" comes out and features something more interesting ("Ooh! Makeup tips! riiight.gif) and they move onto that. Hey, I admit that I used to read Seventeen back in the day. I even had a poem published in it once. And I wasn't even "preppy".... hmm. Go figure...

I'm stressed. I'm going to go play now. "Spin the Disc" Heavy has my name written all over it tonight! LMAO!!! (read: "can't even pass an 8-footer!")

Apologize for 2 posts to close together, but I forgot to mention that as a long-time gamer grrl, I found it quite insulting that "Seventeen" assumed that a girl would need to borrow her *BROTHER's* PS2 to play the game. At least they didn't say "Boyfriend's." That would really have p1ssed me off.

How many girls have Playstations of thier own?? Maybe not as many as guys, but I'm sure my PS2-owning sistrrrs are out there somewhere. Guess video games are still considered a realm for the testosterone-ly endowed...

And "tech-savvy?" You're kidding right?
