HORMIGA OBRERA -From Beatmania IIDX 8th Style
&
COOL JOE -From Guitar Freaks 1st Mix-

Are both incomplete stepfiles. Your other songs are kickin though.
I have Max Extermination but those heavy steps are insanely insane. I only keep it cuz the standard steps are good.

"Yesterday" - Cherry
http://stevevsstone.hypermart.net/dwi/yesterday.zip
Click or copy link and download the file.

I just finished putting the finishing touches on my 2nd custom DWI file.

For this one, I made a DWI out of the song "Yesterday" by Cherry. If any of you have played Beatmania IIDX 6th Style, you should be familiar with this song biggrin.gif

I started with the Heavy steps and worked backwards. My heavy steps are a 9 footer, and rightfully so. Like DDRExtreme's Cartoon Heroes, Yesterday Heavy will throw any and all combinations of steps at you. You have 8th note strings, turns, pivots, gallops, step-jumping, jackhammering (hit the same arrow more than once), freeze arrows, and groups of 3 16th-steps. However, they aren't just a mess of arrows. I hit gold when I managed to sync the song perfectly, so I doubt you'll find any of the rhythms unmanagable. If you critique this step file at all, please concentrate on the heavy steps.

The standard steps are rated as a 7 (an easy 7 though), and are meant to be fun. There is a lot of jumping going on in Standard mode, in addition to some small 8th note strings. If you were playing Standard on a pad I imagine it would be pretty fun to do without being overly difficult (a person that is new to standard mode might have some difficultly however).

The light steps are rated as a 4. What can I say, its light mode. Incredibly easy, but I put enough difficultly into it that a complete newbie would not be able to pass light mode on their first try. Out of the three difficulties, this one received the least effort, but hey, there wasn't much I could do for it in the first place.

I may make Oni steps (10 foot rating) at some point, but first I would have to figure out how to make a fair 10 footer out of this song. For now, you have a DWI with all three difficulties covered, is synched incredibly well, has been tested and works fine in both Stepmania and DWI, and is set to a great song to begin with. I also like how the background for the song turned out.

Please, post critiques if you can, as this is my 2nd effort, and I want to know if there is anywhere I can still improve.

I too, am in desperate need of all of the DDR Stepmania bumper packs. I just started with Stepmania, and I'm trying to get it set up nicely. In addition to bumper packs I need a working announcer add-on. Thanks in advance...you can PM, IM, or Email me.

Hey Phrekwenci, those files are awesome. Especially your Zero-One steps. I'm working hard on my files, so I don't have many yet. But it's just working on polishing the steps. So don't worry. Soon, I'll have more.

romulus,

This simfile is ok but it could use some work (fix the gap value). The steps need some major work.. I suggest you make your heavy steps into challenge steps and work on an 8 foot version.

The Club Mix zip on http://web.mit.edu/spui/ddr/ includes the DWI for that song. No images though.

What's wrong with the gap value? Are you playing in Stepmania or DWI? The reason the gap is the way it is is so you can play it in DWI properly. The song is synched fine on my computer, and my global gap settings are at 0. Since I don't have another computer to really test this on, could you be a bit more specific in this regard.

As for the steps, I understand why you may be saying what you are. Yes, some of the steps get excessive and aren't derived from the actual beats in the song (16 step clusters come to mind), but a good deal of the steps follow something, particularly those jump-step-step clusters in the beginning (listen to the background music). As for the 8th note strings, no they don't follow the instruments or vocals, but they do follow the beat, and they were made to be technical. Can't Stop Falling in Love ~Speed Mix~ does steps like this, where although the steps don't reflect individual notes, it follows the beat nicely. I admit, some of the steps (particularly anything involving 16-note steps) were added in just so I could give the song a 9 foot rating, but I don't feel that they need "major" work (that statement implies that they are hard to follow, are out of synch, or don't follow any sort of established DDR pattern).

Now, if what you meant by "major" work was that I need steps that follow the actual song lyrics and instruments more closely rather than just following the beat, then I may look into doing such a thing. First, I need some clarity before I could go about fixing anything.

~EDIT Addition~

Ok MJEmirzian, I downloaded one of your simfiles to check out how you handle things. I think I have a better grasp now on how to properly make Heavy steps. I think I may just follow your suggestion and make an 8-Foot version that more closely follows the instruments vs. making technical steps that are in tempo with the song. I'll up the current Heavy steps to Challenge, because they actually do fall under such a category. Although in beat, they're harder and in reality, probably less fun than if I were to make proper steps for Heavy. Anyway, I'll see what I can do. If I have missed anything that you were implying, let me know.

http://www.geocities.com/vocabulary_matt/GeneGadget.zip

Here's a little redo of Phrekwenci's awesome Gene Gadget file. I added Light and Standard steps, but couldn't stand to touch the heavy steps.

Light: 8 feet
Standard: 9 feet
Heavy: 9 feet

Yea, it's kinda crazy, but the Light steps are gonna be in my oni course. Later days!

Slight correction from my last post...I've got a version of Gravity now, but I'm looking for the version that has 1000+ steps on heavy. I have no idea what its called (BMR mix?), if anyone can point me in the right direction or give me the files, please let me know.

Does anyone have a version of Sakura with light and standard steps? I'd greatly appreciate it.
