Anyway, you don't have to go through the whole color tag thing to avoid the mods, you can just open and close a bold with nothing in between.

Question:

In Pop'n Music 5, how do you unlock other songs? I went to the page for Pop'n 5 (linked to from the 1st post in this thread), and it said Pink Rose was on the song list. It also said "NEW" before it, and other songs said like a "4" or a "6" in front of them.....can someone explain that stuff for me? Thanks!

play as rie chan in arcade mode, and the song will appear on 2nd stage of arcade mode.. the rest of the unlock methods can be found in the secret section.... which is not in english

to unlock all the songs, you can use the number codes in that first table on the secrets page (http://www.konamistudio.com/pm5/secret.html).. it says that at the red title screen, while holding the select button, enter those codes according to the way the buttons are numbered in the diagram... when a code is entered succesfully, you will hear a confirmation sound

you can also unlock all the songs in the game by playing for a total of 5.5 hours in arcade mode (only popkun falling time a.k.a. actual gameplay time is actually counted, and only in arcade mode).. the first unlock set (each set contains multiple songs) comes at 2 hours, then a new one every half hour until 5 and a half hours. but you don't have to use time release at all.. the previously mentioned codes will unlock the complete total of 19 hidden songs in the game.

also...

'4' and '6' refer to songs from PnM4 and PnM6 respectively

'?' songs are hidden songs...

'new' songs are songs that are appearing for the first time ever in any PnM game, home or arcade.. the songs at the top (the white area) appeared in PnM5 arcade first, so they are not new

'mix' songs are remixes, of course

'ex' labelled songs only come out during ex stage.. that's what it says anyway...

Ah, so that's it! I tried translating the Secrets section at Altavista, but I couldn't get anything out of it (it basically said "when screen redder press codes" or something like that). Thanks!

E13.gif Somehow I don't think 400 bucks for a piece of plastic is worth it, but it is defenitly nice to have.

Damn, I put the bold tag in the wrong place laugh.gif Oh, well, fixed.

I didn't say I would never buy one. I also see why you would recommend it. So, with that in mind, unless you are going to give me some more information, se can drop it.

So, I'll ask again, how does pop'n 8 sompare against the others? If I (eventually) ask for a lot of measurements, will someone get them for me? Thanks.

Anyone know where I can nab a Konami Pop N' Music controller? I'm not really interested in buying an ASC.

Not again.

Well, thanks to reading all about Pop'n and such, I decided to get Pop'n 8. And now I am addicted to this game. If the September batch of the Pop'n ASC is made (please God) I've got a preorder in at himeya for one, and then my room will officially be the best arcade in Georgia. (no lie, our arcades blow here.)

Oh yeah, to anyone who thinks the raving about Pop'n 8 being the best home bemani release ever is all fanboy talk: its not. This really is the best CS bemani game. (till 7th style that is)

it's a matter of preference dude. it depends on what your into, and it depends on whether or not you've played the corresponding arcade version of any home version. for example, most people have played ddrmax2.. and most people who played the home version (myself included) weren't terribly impressed by it, because they've played all those songs before. to it's credit though, PnM8 does have an inclusion level of CS exclusive songs that can't be touched by any bemani home game except for PnM7. but then, most people who are playing PnM8 (here in the US) have never even seen a PnM8 arcade machine, or any PnM arcade machine for that matter, so that makes the home version really impressive to them.

imo, i have a few tiny gripes with PnM8. the freetraining mode is stupid. by combining these 2 modes (free mode + training mode), they lose out on some features that the individual modes might have had. to sum things up, having to select your song, then choose 'start' from the menu is annoying.. and the training results are nowhere near as copmprehensive as in iidx's training mode.

also, i think the study channel is lame... 6th style's drills are much better. and any true player will start with 9line normal in arcade mode, unless maybe it's your first bemani or something.

but the truth is, all that stuff doesn't really matter to me that much. i think the game is awesome, and stuff like battle mode and challenge mode are fun, and the incredible song list (which has an amazing lack of crappy songs) really helps. also, the unlock system, sugoroku de 8 is cool, even though it sucks when you can't read a few of those 'sugoroku de 8 normas.'

as far as being the best CS bemani game.. well considering all the other games, it is the best, imo.. it is more up-to-date with arcade than iidx or gfdm, and it is nowhere near as barebones as max2 is and ddr extreme will probably be. i don't even think that 7th style will definitely be better than it. the fact that 7th style is being delayed so much doesn't really help it out.

yeah, battle mode is really fun esp since I beat you so badly in it.

Funny, you left your ASC here overnight and for the whole day, yet I didn't take advantage of it at all...played like 3 games.

I dunno, just everytime I pick up the big colorful controller and attempt to place it on my lap my one year old niece comes over and shakes her head in shame and goes "dude that's so gay", and I go back to playing IIdx.

ok, I kid. I think Pop'n Music is great, and if I ever have 400 bucks to spare, I might consider getting my own ASC. Till then, I'll lounge off your's, and keep myself occupied with IIdx.

As soon as I nab a controller, im buying Best Hits. That ASC looks very tempting, but alas, its too expensive, and I dont think I'll be playing PNM in an arcade any time soon.

Okay, what the fuck? I've got like a billion songs left to unlock and on Sugoroku De 8 I've got like 95% complete, and all I'm getting is characters. E2.gif

I know I still need Linus, 3-2-1 Stars and Over the Rainbow-Live. But there's still a ton of greyed out purple songs in Free Play.

Hopefully you don't have earn points in Challenge Mode because I so suck at challenge mode.

I did notice that a lot of songs came out when I got... I think it was called "bonus stage" (as opposed to EX stage?) in arcade mode. I noticed a whole lot more "Live" songs coming out just for that, including Over The Rainbow.

Call me stupid, but what exactly are the criteria for getting this "bonus stage"? It almost certainly seems to involve Hyper difficulty, but the first time I got it, I played on Hyper in the 2nd of 3 songs only o.O

Yeah, I suck.

I know, me too. I thought you could get everything from the game, but I'm missing those plus a couple more live ones. I got the live ones I have and 100 sec. battle from Bonus Stage (how do you get that!? I got it 3 times but I don't know how I did it).

Also, whats the deal with getting the movies and CG's unlocked, i know you use challenge mode, but I'm not really getting what exactly I have to do. Is there a point list like there was for 7 that shows what you get when you get certain points.
EX:
20: EX stage
25: CG
30: EX stage

Finally, does anyone know what the objective with the '8' in it is?
