NOTE: Before you read this, don't instantly post that "omfg 9th mix isnt cummin out! just except it doodz" (also, if you just copy this generic reply to be funny, or whatever, you're not) etc., etc... I had accepted that until I heard this today, and now I'm not sure what to think

Today, at my local Cyberstation, I asked the manager if we'd be upgrading to 8th mix anytime soon (we currently have 7th mix). He said that they'd be waiting to upgrade to 9th mix because Namco likes to upgrade every other mix. I was immediately confused, and told him that Konami is done with the DDR series. He said that that was not what Konami had told the Namco executives. Apparently, a few weeks ago, our manager asked the Distric Supervisor of the Midwest for Namco arcades for an Extreme upgrade because he knew it'd be the last mix. The Distric Supervisor wrote our manager a letter stating that Konami had told the Namco executives that they were currently working on a 9th Mix specifically for the U.S., so our arcade would not be upgraded until 9th mix came out. This still confuses me in many ways, as I know Konami closed their arcade division in the U.S., but I find it very strange that Konami would tell Namco this.

Just to state: Our manager is very well educated on the Bemani series. He isn't some idiot like a lot of the Namco managers are. We've had DDR in our arcade since 1999 and three different forms of other Bemani, so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to DDR. That's why I'm confused as to whether or not this is true.

There was either a huge misunderstanding between Namco and Konami, or this is true somehow. I'm still skeptical, and I'm still not expecting a 9th Mix, I'm just very confused at this point.

The "DDR Discontinued?" (too lazy to go get the link) addresses the whole 9th mix thing. Personally, I never believed that DDR was over (maybe just denial riiight.gif ). There is actually a fair amount of information to suggest that there is going to be a 9th mix. Check out that other thread.

wow, that's very interesting. I certaintly don't think there's been confusion, but I do find it odd that they wouldn't let your arcade upgrade to extreme simply because they just HAVE to upgrade every other mix.

Well, they don't have too, but it makes sense. It costs a lot of money to buy an upgrade every time a new mix comes out, so they figure if they upgrade every other mix, it saves money while keeping the mixes fairly fresh.

Hmmm It would be interesting to see a 9th mix come out. specially if its specifically for the US like you said. Hmm finally we get something that Japan doesn't get! They always seem to have the latest technology.

If there WAS going to be a 9th mix. They should include every ddr song ever made and put it in the mix. biggrin.gif wouldn't that be nice....all the ddr songs right at your fingertips. E4.gif

I still have trouble believing it, though. It seems strange that all the Konami people come here and post, telling us 8th Mix is the last mix, and the fact that Konami closed their U.S. arcade divison last summer.

I hope it's true, though.

Don't assume ANYTHING from arcade managers or importers until you hear official word from Konami themselves. Too many rumors go around and end up being false 99% of the time.

You know how much it costs Namco to buy a whole DDR machine? A partly $800. They could absolutly afford to upgrade every mix. Cheap bastards... disgust.gif

If they make 9th mix... which very good evidence is displayed in altinures story.

but why in hell put all the ddr songs ever in it? if that happens well see maybe 20-25 new songs, i dont wanna see "banjo man (for EX2)" just an example..

i think they should only include 3 top favs from each mix and make 60-70 new songs. sure the licensing would be hell but rather that than all the songs in a mix. go get stepmania man

who cares Extreme2 is gonna raise hell.

Just don't get your hopes up. Like PMG, we shouldn't be 100% sure until we directly hear something from Konami.

I hope Extreme 2 is a little better than Extreme with most of the songs off other Bemani games and better songs. E1.gif

For the lazy people

Quote:
A: Right now, the problem we are having with BEMANI is that there are two different routes in the music -- the game music and cover music. The gap between the two is too huge. What we are trying to do is to unify the two into one. We are also trying our best to create a system where both veterans of BEMANI and newcomers can enjoy the same game at once. There are lots of rumors with BEMANI, such as Extreme is the last DDR, 9th Style will be the last IIDX, and so on. However, we have no intentions to close down our BEMANI section. We strive to fulfill our fans' needs.
D: In conclusion, what would you like to say to your fans in America?
A & H: Please enjoy Silent Hill 3 as more than just a game, and don't forget to support us when 9th Style comes out. (smiles)

yeo on the whole next DDR thing. When you play extreme it say "Dance Dance Revolution" with no 8th mix or extreme afterwards. also on the panels that a new machine come with it says "we're starting over" i think this gives the hint that konami will come out with another DDR.

So it's going to be the Dance Dance Revolution Revolution? Just what we need, more repetition in the name.

Wow this is great! Let's just hope it has the wide selection of songs like Extreme did. Other mixes like 6th mix didn't have a huge variety like extreme did. They should have the road to legend 2.

I try not to put to much faith into either side of the great 9 debate. If no more come out, so be it. I havent mastered all the ld stuff yet so i wont go bonkers. If they do release a new one, great, Ill be sure to play it when it arrives. Either way I will continue to play the game.

Hrmm.... well all skepticism aside (I've denied the possibility of much more probable things before)....... here are some of my pro's and con's if a new mix would come out:

Con - We don't have any firm word on if/when the mix will come out
Pro - More songs - Fact, all mixes give us more songs
Con - It'll take all the arcades around here forever to upgrade (or so my spider sense tingles...)
Pro - If I still have to play on an 8th mix.... I'll feel like a veteran =-D
Con - Less songs - I'm sure there'll be a lot of good songs cut from 9th.
Pro - More 10 footers to arrow-kill your brain and feet.
Con - History shows the new Max brother will be worse than Legend of Max
Pro - A chance for Benami to fix some of the song foot ratings (So Deep) and maybe relable some songs as > 10 feet where deserving.
Con - The mix hasn't been announced yet =-(
