I'm just trying to figure out the technicalities of Parental Consent on this tour. So Praster if you could help i'd appreciate it. |
1)you dont need anything signed for the freeplay. go and have fun.
2)if u want to enter the touney, and ur under 18, sorry, ur screwed. despite the note. i think. |
1: That's sorta true.... You DO have to sign a release to do the freeplay... And there is a line for a parent signature.... However, I don't know how much they enforce that one....as I'm well over 18, and it doesn't impact me. =) (and even then, I don't think they'll let anyone under 13 play at ALL)
2: <ahem....> IF YOU ARE UNDER 18, YOU ARE S.O.L., NO IF'S, AND'S, BUT'S, OR PARENTAL NOTES ARE GOING TO HELP YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END OF STORY!!!!!!!! |

According to the Dance Fever website, the mall tour will stop in Birmingham on Aug. 14 but will stop in Atlanta on Aug. 11... So, you might want to go to the Atlanta tourney first, and Just In Case you don't win that one, go to the Birmingham as well...
From looking at the way that this mall tour-nament has gone thus far, the rules don't seem to be very strict (except for the age limit), so I'm pretty sure you will be allowed to enter more than once... There have already been players that didn't win at one mall stop who mentioned they will go to a later location.
As for myself, I am planning to enter the Detroit tourney this Friday. Seems like a lot of fun! _________________

Overall the whole event was pretty lame at Columbus. There was very little turnout and the machines were really crappy. During free play they played dance music to drown out the DDR machines (like Gameworks, without the alcohol). I guess it was worth stopping by to play for free for a couple of hours, but if I didn't live in Columbus it wouldn't have been worth driving any long distance. _________________

What if you're 16 but you look like you're in your 20s because you have a goatee... then can you enter? _________________

You can try, but if they check you for ID you're screwed, unless you have a Fake ID, which might get you into a whole other kind of trouble.
I don't see the point of asking a question like that on this thread anyway... The only person who might be able to answer it for sure is Praster, and I doubt he'll bend the rules and let a 16-old enter.

That's what we call sarcasm kids. I'm 18, and I won't bother entering this thing because I don't feel like driving out of my way to get owned in yet another DDR related thing. I don't think they want to see this either:

Today the mall tour stopped at Great Lakes Crossing Mall, just north of Detroit. I'll give an overview of how it went...
The turnout was pretty sizable, overall about 40 people entered, not counting the ones who just signed up but were no-shows when it was their turn to play. There were plenty of decent novice players, a number of pretty good players, and a few very good players. Five 4th Mix+ Solo machines were present, one of which was never used in any of the rounds (it had the flickering screen). So, the qualifying rouds began at 4 pm sharp, at first with four people in each group going up on four machines, highest scorer moves on. Eventually, one of the four machines broke down, and then it was a pair of players at a time, with the higher scorer moving on. The songs in the qualifying round were all on basic, mostly ranging from 3 to 4 footers.
After a long wait, a smaller, second group of players who registered late were allowed to qualify. Quarterfinals began at about 8 pm, with 12 players (one of whom was a girl who didn't show up for the quarterfinals) divided into groups of 3 or 2 players each, highest scorer advances. (Songs ranged from 5 to 7 feet in difficulty) Semifinals began right afterwards, with 5 players remaining. These 5 were divided into a trio (which I was in) and a pair, with the highest scorer in each group going on to the finals... Songs used for semifinals were Holic and Gentle Stress on heavy. The song used for the final round was End of the Century on heavy.
Congratulations to djParanoia, who emerged the eventual winner.
Some highlights/notes:
- There was a very informal improv freestyle tourney that ran after the first batch of qualifiers. It was quite entertaining! The winner received a Panasonic CD player.
- Thaddeus (I hope I got his name right) came in 2nd place (due to one mis-timed step, I lost to him on Holic). He did a Justin Timberlake dance on the actual stage which got recorded on camera by a Dance Fever crew. You had to be there to fully appreciate it...
- As previously mentioned, the machines aren't in the best shape... So luck is a bigger factor in these score-attack mall tour-naments than usual.
- Praster did a Great job running the tournament as well as possible. His freestyle is a sight to watch, too!
As for me, I'm content with how I did... With a lot of help from good luck, I got 3rd place, although I did manage to beat Thad's score on EotC after the final round. However, it's what you can do when it's your turn to play, that truly matters... I had a lot of fun, and encourage all of you to go to it - it might be less fun for minors, but at least go for the freeplay and to meet other DDRers. I certainly met a lot of cool people.
I think most of the top players in Michigan showed up for this mall stop. A few couldn't play due to the age limit, unfortunately. In addition to age, there's another restriction I should mention - you NEED to be a U.S. resident to participate. I almost got disqualified for this dumb rule, but fortunately I've got my student visa as I go to school in the US... _________________

yah, it's Thaddeus.
EotC can blow me, it always can, and always will, heh.
Free swag was nice though...I won a MP3 player from DRQ in gameworks beforehand too!
my shirt on DRQ webpage though...that's gonna be priceless. |

yeah, those pads were crap, it turned out to be mainly just luck that determined your step rating. I personally got robbed, in the quarter finals i was beaten by 6 greats. The other guy had 18, i had 24, but it was on B4U trick which i can usually AA with about 3 or 4 greats. If ABC actually cleaned their pads, i think a lot more people would have had a chance (neel) and the competition would have been a lot harder. _________________
