by 'the site' u mean ncsx? well, they don't carry ASCs. The only online retailer that imports them that i know of is himeya. However, the next batch won't be coming until September, so you'll have to wait until then.

There's always rinkya, but I've never tried it myself, and can't make any reccomendations about it.

it could have taken you 10 seconds to find out that on himeya the controller is about 405 with shipping.

is best hits really limited to that 54-track songlist? is it worth buying at all (besides for the new exclusive songs)?

Heh heh, sorry, I couldn't find the controller on there. Then I looked again and found the price laugh.gif Ummmm, 405, so that is what I should expect to be the max. Good. I think it's rediculous for a piece of plastic but.. hell, it's Pop'N Music, imported, and it's KONAMI!!

So what is the best mix out there? I really like the Power Folk stuff. Is samurai syndrome on PnM 8? If so, I think I'll go with that one.

samurai syndrome can be found on pm7 and 8. you can check the song lists here: http://www.konamistudio.com/pop, just umm... you have to work around the language barrier a bit..

I'm still torn on how I want to handle actually getting a pop'n ASC...

For hassle-free ordering I can just let himeya do it, for a ridiculous markup...

I could order it with my konamistyle account, which ships to an acquantence's residence. This is problematic, as I'm told konamistyle doesn't accept credit card orders for pop'n ASCs for some reason - they apparently want what was described to me as the Japanese equivalent to C.O.D... also, it can be assumed that the actual shipping from Japan to my house would be horrendously expensive (being excessively heavy and excessively oversized).

I haven't worked out the konamistyle math yet... but wow, after writing all that down, that does look like quite a big pain in the rear end...

Any suggestions? Himeya is looking like a better option now...

Pop'n Music 8: Review

To get right to the point: this game is amazing. In all honesty, it is safe to say this is probably the best game I have ever played.

I have unlocked all songs, got all the characters, and have played for probably about 15 hours all in all.

Favorite songs include:
RAGTIME
WORLD TOUR
PIANO ROCK
PSYCHC
TWEE POP
VISUAL 3
NINJA*HERO
MELO PUNK
FRENCH POP
SKA
TRAUMA PUNK
HARD COUNTRY
LATIN PIANO
TURBAN
TECHNO POP
CANDY POP
LOUNGE POP
SPECIAL COOKING
CURRY
SEKEN
HERO
SCHOOL (???)
COOL CHINA
GIRLS BAND

*phew* Now that I got THAT out of the way: I could safely say 9.999/10 of the songs are AWESOME. I love every single one of them, but these are my favorites. I finally finished the new mode, Sugoroku De 8. May I say this is the best idea since the sliced bread. Making you work really hard for your music is awesome! The includsion of the Mamba A Go Go songs is really cool, and I'm glad all the liscense stuff is in their, too. Curry is too cool!

The characters this time around are the best I've seen. GOODBYE Ravegirl, HELLOOOOO Mr. B and T Bone.

I was really pleased with the song selection this time, and the difficulty is extremely tough. Here are some note worthy scores.

100,000 on CANDY POP HEAVY
95,269 on NINJA HERO EX (consistent)
96,929 on RAGTIME EX (consistent)
94,978 on PIANO ROCK EX (consistent)
87,931 on SKA EX (consistent)
84,805 on TECHNO POP EX (consistent)
76,388 on CURRY EX (consistent)
85,257 on TRAUMA PUNK EX (NON consistent)
82,741 on PURE EX (NON consistent)
100,000 on TWEE POP HYPER (consistent)

All in all, this is a hella hard mix. I can pass every hyper with 95k or higher 1st try, but I'm talking about the EX'es. Classic 8 is blarg. Won't be doing that for a while. Other than Pure and Trauma Punk, I passed every hyper and EX on my first try, and am REALLY trying to get TP and a few others down. I was a bit dissappointed that AWESOME songs like Linus and 3-2-1 stars were very close to their Beatmania counter parts. I felt like I was playing the IIDX song, except in bright super duper happy mode! Not a big deal, but I wanted a little challenge.

10/10

(This mix would be perfect if they added in like... Shining and Sweetish) happy.gif

Sounds like an awsome game, but it wouldn't be fun without the ASC....

After the initial hype I am starting to stray away from the idea of getting a PnM ASC. It's is a rediculous price. Think about this, you could order the steel batallion controller, and game, for $150 less than the ASC. The steel batallion controller lights up, has almost 40 buttons, 2 analog sticks, and 3 pedals!

Steel batallioin controller > ASC
Sbc and the game is (rufly) $200 less than the PnM ASC and PnM 8....

That is 200 dollars down the drain. Concidering I am at 0 dollars right now, why the hell would i want to throw that much money away.

I guess I was never meant to play Pop'N Music...

Yeah, I felt the same way about those songs too. The button patterns are almost like the ones on Beatmania *sigh*. I'm glad that they picked the best songs from Mambo (especially Sci Fi Girl!). Now that we don't have our Mambo machine here anymore I kinda missed some of those songs. The EX's are a bitch too. Especially Trauma Punk EX. I'm pretty sure I could pass it on a regular controller but on an ASC my arms got really tired. All the consistent "up and down" motions killed me. I'll have to ask my friend to bring over his regular controller and see if I can pass it on that.

Yeah, those EX's are outrageous.

Still, though my hit list is;

1.) J-R&B 3 / Can't Stop My Love
2.) Hyper J-Pop / Stars***
3.) Girls Rock(?) / Milk

And all of the Bemani crossovers are great. Especially the Keyboardmania and Mambo A GoGo songs. Though, when was Jet World considered "Hard Country?" E15.gif

Wow... wow.

I've been interested in pop'n for a while, but never knew much about it... and I had a lot of newb questions... so, I came, and read the whole thread.

And now I won't ask a lot of stuff! Hey, other people! Be like me!

Ok, anyway... I read a lot of comparisons/opinions on Pop'n Best Hits (or whatever it was), 6, and 7... but I've only seen one (very positive) review on pop'n 8. So, for those who have it, how does it compare to the other games?

Also, from reading I get the impression that although the home controller is good, it's a lot smaller, and although you can have fun playing with it, it won't give a true pop'n expericance simply because of size. Also, it seems that the ASC is really expensive riiight.gif

However, it looks like this would be a lot easier to build than a ddr pad or something like that, especially if you bought the buttons. So, if I ask for a lot of specific measurements at some future time, would someone be willing to measure them for me?

Thanks E1.gif

God people..

Stop trying to make controllers. They always turn out shitty and nothing like the arcade. Just suck it up and buy an ASC.

Eh, even if it was kinda poopyty, if it was a bigger than the home controller, and cost a bit less, I'd be interested... Have you made one? I saw that a few people had made one... how did those turn out?

Anyway, you don't have to go through the whole color tag thing to avoid the mods, you can just open and close a bold with nothing in between.
