It's everybody's favorite time of the week (Well, besides payday). Yes, it's time to hand out the BaldOne awards for Bracket 3. (Pauses for applause)
Biggest Surprise: Laugh and Beats
I gave up hope on this one when I saw the BPM go into quadruple digits. (Just glad it didn't go to 1337 BPM) Then I played it... and it was actually fun! It's everything Eternity and ESC wanted to be, and possibly one of the best gimmicky .dwi's ever.
Biggest Letdown: Cha Cha Slide (Dance Mix)
A right arrow when the guy says "slide to the left." A left arrow when the guy says "slide to the right." Six hops when he says "five hops this time!" AND 32 L/R jumps in a row. All at the wrong BPM.
Most Overrated .dwi: Scars of Time
This seems to be the one that's getting the 3rd slot on a lot of ballots. I don't think that it's a bad .dwi (It's quite good), but I think the fact that it's from Chrono Cross gives it a leg up on the other entries on the verge.
Most Underrated .dwi: Kanariya [System S.F. Mix]
This one doesn't seem to be getting a lot of attention, and it should. If you brush this one off as GTS, you're missing out on a very good song.
Most Ignored .dwi: Mega Man 2
Surprisingly, very little talk about the little blue guy. See Traveling from Bracket 1.
Best .dwi You Didn't Want To Play: It's Colorful Boxing
Aaron Kwok made It's Colorful Boxing and all your base are belong to us.
OK, so you probably DID want to play this when you saw the title, but those of you that didn't want to play it REALLY didn't want to play it. It also gets bonus points for being the first 2-minute-plus .dwi that didn't get repetitive.
Most Needed Speed Adjustment: Heaven is a Place on Earth
Right up there with Be For You, Be For Me and Hareta Hi no Marine for most unwarrented BPM double. Listen to the song and tell me if it deserves runs that rival PARANOiA Survivor. Didn't think so.
Worst Foot Rating: Let Yourself Go (Speed Rave Mix) - Heavy (8)
Play this one. Then play Ever Snow.
Greatest Achievement in a Bad .dwi: Flyin' Joe Random for his work in Move Your Feet!
Rainbow steps in a song that's perfectly synced, BPM-wise. This one could have had a shot in the top 3...
BaldOne's Picks for the Finals:
5/6 last week; 9/12 [75%] overall
Note: Due to last week's mess with neoMAX (Curse you for being good!), I've given up on sorting by who pics them. Here they are in alphabetical order.
Doo-Bi-De-Boy (KCP Re-Edit) (Not to self; Must become sweet samurai)
Empathy (TaQ is the Good-Cool of this bracket)
Hanky Panky (e=mc² Mix) (Barbie Young can not go 0-for-2)
Help Me, Dr. Dick (Feel... dirty... must... get... clean...)
Laugh and Beats (This one will juuuuuuuust sneak in)
Scars of Time (Is there such a thing as the RPG bias?) |

Alright, this might be the wrong place to ask right now, but....
Is there any place I can still get Tournamix 3? I can't get any good connections on IRC (whether it be DDRUK, DDRManiax, or any other fserve channel I've found), and I can't find it anywhere still up on the web... _________________

Ok here's my awards(yah?):
Most overrated: Cosmic Cowgirl - Wow, it's from GF and DM. Nothing special at all really.
Most underrated: Come to Me - Great song, wonder y no one likes it?
The biggest joke of a song: Cha Cha Slide - My guess is that some geek made it that thinks he knows hip hop. Kinda like when your mom picked you out school clothes that were gay and she thought were spiffy.
Biggest Surpise: Empathy - I'm not big on IIDX. The BG scares me and I really didn't think the steps'd be that authentic. Awesome song.
Biggest Letdown: Fly High - Vincent De Moor is the man! I can't believe the twisted sould that made this destroyed a song of his so effortlessly.
1st - Scars of Time
2nd - Doo Bee Di Boy
3rd - Empathy
4th - Cosmic Cowgirl
5th - It's Colorful Boxing
Oh yes by the way, Laugh and Beats is pure trash. It's not funny nor a good DWI. You want comedy, download "The Pledge". It's not even trying to be funny. And Megaman 2 is only good if you grew up on Megaman as a kid like me. |

My take on Bracket 3: (review i posted on DDREI forums)
Note: i am only commenting on the heavy/challenge steps. Why? I dont know, i play all the difficulties, but i only comment on the hardest stepsets. I believe that anyone can make a good light or standard, but heavy/challenge is the best judge of the .dwi's.
Also, i tend to be harsh on songs with wrong BPMs. I just believe there is no excuse for this, and it makes a potentially good (or even bad) dwi no fun at all to play.
Asereje: Good try overall. The long 1/8 chains accentuate the speed feeling. However, the lone jumps that interrupt the runs really didnt fit with anything. Good, but not top 3 good.
Overall: B
Cha Cha Slide: Love the song, hate this .dwi. Sorry to the creator, but it was way off sync, and the steps do NOT go with the music. Like many others have said, dont put a left when he says right, dont put a right when he says left, and good lord dont put 6 jumps when he says 5 hops this time =p.
Overall: D- (i love the song)
Come to Me: The steps were spot on, but there were too many tempo changes and freezes that did not fit with the song.
Overall: B
Cosmic Cowgirl: Liked the steps, like the song, very solid entry. Dont really see anything wrong with it.
Overall: A
Doo-Bi-Di-Boy: Great .dwi. The steps were great, original, and fun. I dont really like the tempo freezes near the beginning, but they seemed to fit, so i guess they're ok.
Overall: A
Empathy: Good steps, they were right on. However, this version of empathy didnt work for me. I found it a bit boring and predictable, kind of like the DDR heavy steps for Era (Nostalmix).
Overall: B+
Fly High: The whole stepset felt like it was trying to match the melody too closely, it felt kind of uninteresting. Plus, the freezes at the end were off, and the rest of the steps after that were offsync.
Overall: C+
Hanky Panky: The steps could have come right outta DDR. Fit the music, managing to be original and interesting at the same time.
Overall: A (top 3 material here, but not in my book)
Heaven Is a Place on Earth: Um, why did the bpm arbitrarily double? The song never changed. The steps sucked, in addition. They had nothing to do with the song. One of the few i hit ESC on since i really couldnt finish it. Besides, after hearing my sisters sing/hum this song literally over 200 times, i've grown to hate it >_<
Overall: F
Help Me Dr. Dick: Gotta love E-rotic Good steps, fairly easy but interesting nonetheless. It might be me, but i believe either some of the steps are off, the gap is off, or the BPM is off, because playing through i got way too many greats, on any speed mod setting i used.
Overall: B+
Ibiza 2002 Hard Remaster: Nice trance song, good steps, technically sound. A bit boring to me though, and the ending is rather abrupt.
Overall: B+
It's Colorful Boxing: Bahahaha this song is awesome. Off-the-wall crazy, but captivating nonetheless. Excellent steps that never get boring, and dead on: the only one of the lot i've AAAd so far. Makes me wanna find some more music by Aaron Kwok, i love crazy stuff (see my laugh and beats review).
Overall: A+ (easily my favorite of the bracket)
Jen Ai Marre: Started off good, but defintely the BPM was off. The steps were all right otherwise, boring though. But wrong bpm IMO is a big strike against the entry.
Overall: C+
Kanariya: Another case of "good, but not exceptional." No BPM or gap issues, and solid stepsets. However, the steps made little sense at times, and the heavy seemed like it just had extra notes thrown in to make it harder.
Overall: B
Kitty 'N: Where to start, where to start. First off all, the BPM was *WAY* off, the steps sucked, and the sound file was too quiet. I personally liked the TM3 version of this song a lot better.
Overall: F
Laugh and Beats: Oh my god, what a song *lol*. I laugh every time i play this, especially at the tempo changes. As for the steps, Very nice job. The tempo changes were well synched with the music, the steps were creative, and the song is awesome! Gogo nonsensical music
overall: A (my second favorite)
Let Yourself Go: Nice song remix, but the .dwi BPM is definitely off, as i can tell at the end where i start getting goods and greats. Nice steps, but BPM discrepancy is too much to ignore.
Overall: C+
Megaman 2: Like the song, great steps, great sync. However, you cant try to make a beatmania type dwi and make it that easy, the only reason beatmania songs are good like that is cause they're insanely hard. I honestly got bored of the .dwi like 30 seconds in >_< Also, way too easy to be 9 foot. Maybe 7 or 8.
Overall: B
Monkey Dance: Pretty good overall, just in a few places the steps made no sense. I like the overall idea, and while not top 3 good, it was a good .dwi.
Overall: B
Move Your Feet: Wow. The BPM was accurate, but the steps were horribly off and poorly synched. And i dont suppose BGs count, but seriously, it looks like it took 5 seconds to make and has nothing to do with the song.
Sorry, but a poor overall job.
Overall: F
Radio Rockin': Tempo changes were pretty neat, but overall the steps were quite boring and in places made no sense.
Overall: B-
Scars of Time: The tempo changes were flawless, the steps were pretty well fit to the music, and made sense while still being original. (not to mention chrono cross has the best soundtrack of any game ever)
Overall: A (third and final top 3 favorite)
Tank! (Luke Vibert Mix): I like the sound of the song, but i must say, i got very bored of 360-degree gallops after awhile. The steps were unoriginal and repetetive, i must say the Tank! in the first bracket was more fun to play.
Overall: B-
Through the Tower: I like the song. Thats about as far as it went. The .dwi's BPM was horribly off, and the steps were boring and uncreative. Really not much fun to play.
Overall: C
Traces: Maybe its just me, but i sure have seen an awful lot of IIDX songs in this tournamix. Anyways, the steps were pretty interesting; the challenge steps, they were pretty dead on, but seemed a little TOO much like IIDX to show much creativity to them. Good steps, but they just dont click for me.
Overall: A-
My overall top:
1.) It's Colorful Boxing
2.) Scars of Time
3.) Laugh and Beats
4.) Hanky Panky
5.) Traces _________________

I'm starting to make possible DWI's for TM5 (if there is gonna be one). I know there is a rule that says no DDR songs but do remixes of DDR songs count? I found a nice remix of Cafe that i wanna DWI but i wanna if it's allowed in tournamix. |

I doubt Cafe (KC Reconstruct Mix) will be allowed since it sounds too similar to Cafe. As a general rule, most remixes of DDR songs aren't allowed. |

Actually what I despise about Cosmic Cowgirl is that the person used the KBM version, which is hideous. _________________

It'll depend on the rules they set for TM5, assuming there is one. More than likely, the answer will be no. _________________

now this is the worst bracket yet.
Ari Ari and Black Cat are the only ones that stand out in this bracket. And that's only because they are two decent DWIs in a pile of shit.
I don't want to play any of these again. |

This bracket is kinda dissapointing, the best dwi from this bracket would have a HARD time if it would have been instead in any of the past brackets. Contrary to the past bracket (which was a very competitive one, even when Hanky Panky and Doo-Be-Di-Boy pwned the bracket), it will be very easy picking the winners from this one, IMO. |

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Internet Relay Crap.
Use Bit Torrent. Go to DDRManiaX.net for a tutorial on how to use BT. It's not hard to use at all, and it's more likely to go fast than all the servers. _________________
