Even though I started the thread, I foolishly didn't post anything about myself...

I played the Alto Sax in sixth grade and quit in the beginning of seventh. Then I joined again in tenth to play Tenor Sax, about the same time I started DDR. Now that I've graduated, I'm out of playing the Sax for the summer, I might play in college, but I plan to DDR for a long time.

I am not in band or choir, but I take private voice classes, and I go to a dance academy... so I guess that counts? A lot of the band guys play, but one guy I know who has never touched an instrument in his life could burn them all, mostly.

I didn't say anything about myself either riiight.gif ...
I've been playing oboe since 6th grade, always been the only one, always been the best to go to All-Districts, I just get nervous at auditions frown.gif and get 2nd... I'm going into James River High School (HUZZAH!) this fall, unfortunately into Concert band... but in 10th grade I'm promised a spot in Symphonic happy.gif AAaaannndd I'm gonna be in the pit for marching band. I MAY SEEM LIKE A GEEK... but, no, I am a FREAK (A YOUNG freak at that, considering that most of you posting here have graduated or are close to it...). And, yes, I DID learn the game quicker than my non-music friends. I actually went over to a friend's house to play a lot since I didnt have my own mat & game riiight.gif until Christmas...

werd. i play oboe too biggrin.gif isn't it an awesome instrument?

i'm in marching and concert band for school... E1.gif i know a lot of people who are chorus/band ppl who play but a lot of my friends who are avid ddr fans aren't really in the music scene but it probably helps a hell of a lot... with the beats and stuff.

hmm.. i play oboe for concert band, marimba in the pit percussion section through marching season, flute for parades, and piano on the side.. not in band haha biggrin.gif

instruments and ddr. good mix, very awesome. :9

I've been in band since 6th grade, which was 8 years ago. I've been in marching band for 6 years now. Also, i was in choir my senior year in HS. That's why I was initially good at DDR. Hearing, feeling, and keeping a beat is essential to both band and DDR.

Ten years of orchestra, and 6 of various choirs (w00t for Regionals). Music runs through my veins, and it's so much FUN! Figuring out the intricacies of the rhythms in some of the heavy DDR songs make it more entertaining for music geeks ^^, and the timing element makes it great practice for instrumentalists, especially percussionists.
I've seen a percussionist who'd never seen DDR before in his life (we brought it to orchestra as a rhythm study) stepped up and got a B on Burnin' the Floor trick, and continued to do similar things. It's gotta be the timpani. Kinda freaky.

I've been playing the piano since I was six, I played violin from 6th-10th grade. After my sophomore I quit that and focused more on the piano. DDR began around 11th grade and was amazed when I first listened to Kakumei a few years later. I was like "Wow... drool.gif " Working on trying to play Kakumei on the piano...with REALLY small progress! thumb.gif But I can play Fur Elise. (Then again, who can't?)

Played Violin and Clarinet but I don't think it helped me that much in DDR. I just played it because it reminds me of Japan.

I've been playing violin for 7 years...so yeah, I'm in orchestra. Maybe that's why I can identify the classical songs and who they're by in BeMani. =P

Well, if you're going into high school next year, then I'm only about a year older than you.

Hell yes. I've been in some type of school band since 4th grade. I've played piano since I was 3. I've been playing drums for 6 years now, and drum set for 5 of those years. This past school year I was a sophomore in high school and I was the Percussion Section Leader and played lead snare drum for marching band. Our concert band, in which I played snare, timpani, and pretty much anything else, won a gold medal in a statewide music competition and went on to play at Boston Symphony Hall. I'm also the set drummer for Jazz Band, and I have my own punk band called Hydraulic Sandwich (check my signature). I'd have to attribute a lot of my DDR skill to my percussion skills and my sense of rhythm and tempo. I see a lot of people playing DDR who rush all their steps and end up getting mostly Greats, while I can stay on tempo extremely well and get a lot of Perfects. When I started playing DDR almost a year ago, I could do any song on Basic and a lot of songs on Trick after playing for a day. Yeah, so I think my musical skills have helped me out a lot with DDR.

Heheheheh...small world. I played oboe for a while too. I've been in band for 5 years now, and I started off on oboe and ended up swtiching to bassoon. I still play oboe at home though. I only know 3 people that I ddr with that aren't in band, orchestra or choir. But musics is pretty big at my area. Well rock on. - G

I'm going to be a senior in high school this upcoming school year. I did the band thing for 3 years (I played flute), I've been playing piano for 14 years, and I sing Alto in various choirs... church, school, regions, and all-state (our school doesn't compete). I play a pretty decent Maniac and can hold my own.

Surprisingly, not many choir/band kids play in Hillsborough. We have a few who do and most of those who do are Basic/Trick players. Most of the kids I play with from my town are my friends who I've sucked in, non-choir/band kids. We had a band/chorus laser tag night, and I think playing Witch Doctor Heavy scared lots of kids away... laugh.gif

Most kids who play in this town have nothing better to do and have become hardcore n00bs who think they are the ultimate shiznits because they can pass certain Trick/Maniac songs.

I started piano right around the time I started DDR (7/2001), and percussion a month or two later. Thing is, neither of those have helped me with DDR, but the game has improved my rhythm a lot.
